Well, it was one for the books. Its official, I hated my draft. And drafting in the 6 spot is entirely horrific since all my picks got vultured before I took them.

Methinks I am going to pay DEARLY for picking Peyton over both McGahee and Dom Davis in the first...

Here's my horrible lineup...

QB's
P Manning
J Harrington

RB's
D McAllister
D Staley
R Dayne
D Foster
R Brown

WR's
S Parker
E Moulds
Roy Williams
Jimmy Smith
M Clayton

TE's
E Johnson
J Putzier

K
D Akers

Def
D Cardinals
D Eagles

I forsee a 7-6 campaign and just missing the playoffs... :vermeil:

By the way, Jack, you are never again invited to the geek league with the way you draft. Congrats on a great lineup especially considering you were in the #1 spot! !Booya!

I had my high dollar CBS draft yesterday. I was very pleased with the results and will post them on another thread.

I got stuck in the ten hole today, so I decided to try something different this time around. I attempted the rarely seen (because its so stupid) strategy of leading off with two wideouts.

Here are the gory details:

1-10 - Randy Moss WR - Eeeewwww!

2-15 - Torry Holt WR - Torry Holt will destroy the world this season.

3-34 - Warrick Dunn RB - I was hoping Tatum or the perennially underrated CuMart would slide to this spot. The queasy stomach and the feelings of, "Oh my God, what the hell have you done" begin.

4-39 - JJ Arrington RB - Oooh, doesn't that starting RB tandem just strike fear into you!

5-58 - Ashley Lelie WR - Homer pick completes my WR Axis of Evil.

6-63 - Ricky Williams RB - Fitting that it was shortly after 4:20 when I made this selection. http://www.georgecoghill.com/gc02/images/illustration/_commercial/_scene/wanted-ricky-williams.png

7-82 - Drew Brees QB - Missed on my boy Jake Delhomme, so I settled for the Mole Man.

8-87 - Reuben Droughns RB - Still looking to shore up the fugly RB corps. He's starting for the moment. I need him to hold the job for about five weeks.

9-106 - Patriots D - Just missed the Panthers and Bills, but can't complain about getting the Champs.

10-111 - LJ Smith TE - Should break out this year with Chad Lewis gone.

11-130 - Brandon Stokley WR - 68 receptions, 1077 yards, 10 TDs last season. Not too bad for round 11.

12-135 - Mewelde Moore RB -
The positives: Mewelde might be the best back on the Vikings roster. Mewelde is a cool name.
The negatives: http://www.azcentral.com/sports/cardinals/pics/0407cardbig-autosized141.jpg This is the only picture I could find of Mike Tice where he's not actually picking his nose.

13-154 - Kurt Warner QB - Sensing that I have totally screwed the fantasy pooch, I now call upon divine intervention. God roots for Kurt Warner, ipso facto, God is now rooting for the Yah Mules. Bow down, pagans. http://www.southernsubstandard.com/sitebuilder/images/AngryGod-150x147.png

14-159 - Ryan Longwell K - Good luck charm kicker. Longwell has handled the kicking chores for 80% of the Mule Teams over the last decade. People freak out over the frozen tundra nonsense and assume he'll be in a blizzard during the FFL playoffs every year.

15-178 - Rod Gardner WR - Carolina has two good wideouts in Smith and Colbert, but they're both small. Gardner has good size. Hopefully he'll flourish in a professional environment.

16-183 - Chris Cooley TE - H-back scored six TDs last year.

17-202 - Brandon Jacobs RB - Talk of Giants camp. I hope to see him as a goalline back. Definitely not putting the whammy on Tiki, who I respect immensely, but this kid is good enough to start and produce right now.

To quote Charles Barkley, "Bad team, man, bad ****ing team."

I can't say I recommend starting your draft with two WR, but I do expect Moss and Holt to out perform everyone else this year. I especially like that Holt's week 16 matchup is San Francisco at home.

I was really hoping that Jordan, Martin or Bell would slide to me at 3-34. God bless Warrick Dunn, but good lord, that's a number three back, not a number one back. Maybe JJ Arrington will catch lightning in a bottle right away. His coach loves him and he's in a division chock full of crummy defenses.

Buffalo soldier troddin’ through the land, wo-ho-ooh!
Said he wanna ran, then you wanna hand,
Troddin’ through the land, yea-hea, yea-ea.

I'd like to thank you for taking Peyton rather than Willis. My first two picks turned out to be VERY strong. There are a handful of guys I'd take over Jones but they all went in the top 5!!! I thought seriously about taking him with my #8 pick before the draft started... then he dropped. Nice!

My WR's are the obvious week link... last year though I had Mushin Muhammed and Joey Galloway and ended up pretty damn good!!!

Week 1
M Bulger A QB (Top 3 QB IMO... 4000 yards and 30 TD's!)
K Jones A RB (Top 10 RB... 1500 total yards and 10 TDs)
W McGahee A RB (Top 5 RB... 1800 total yards and 15 TDs)
W Parker A RB (Nice for a couple weeks... 380 and 3 TDs)
A Boldin A WR (Top 20 WR, 1100 yards and 7 TDs)
L Evans A WR (Top 30 WR, 900 and 7...a drop off)
T Gonzalez A TE (Top TE in a high bonus position. This pick makes my draft!!! 50 receiving yards gets me a 3 pt bonus. 100 gets me 6!!! TG is good for 9 and 9!)
M Vanderjagt A K (IMO the top kicker in the draft. High kick pct. lots of PAT's. Good range and will hit quite a few from 40-49. Losing points from a kicker sucks!!!)
D Panthers A D (was really hoping to get the Ravens D. They went a little earlier than I thought they would. Defenses are drastically underrated in FF. Not very many positions can score 20-25 pts... there are atleast 3 or 4 defenses that do it every weekend!)

B Griese RS QB (Going for the A-hole award! lol)
L Johnson RS RB (Priest goes down I walk with the title!!!)
L Toefield RS RB (Taylor hasn't been injured for a few years, but he's still a modest risk)
T Duckett RS RB (Scores TD's and backs up a 178 lb RB. Dunn's never been hurt and I hope it stays that way, but I'll score big if he does.)
B Lloyd RS WR (Drafted late...#1 WR but has a poor QB. Could go for 800 and 8 TD's, but that's best case scenario)
D Mason RS WR (Same as above...worse QB though!)
G Lewis RS WR (#2 on a good passing team with a good QB. He could easily go for 800 and 6 TD's.)
D Cowboys RS D (I'm thinking they could be a top 5 fantasy D. They can get to the QB and that will lead to turnovers...just not on Thanksgiving day!....btw, DeMarcus Ware is a BEAST!!!)

Thanks for the great draft everyone... good luck!

Hmm, the Two WR strategy would have worked like a charm in my Diamond League. I guess the flex player in this league was my undoing.

I picked fifth in my Diamond League yesterday. Had I chosen to go with Moss and Holt in the first two rounds, I still had Steven Jackson, Curtis Martin and Lamont Jordan available in the third round.

Fred Taylor, Dunn, Arrington, Sarge and Chris Brown were still on the board for my pick in round five.

Larry Johnson and Cedric Benson still on the board in round six.

I'm happy with Edge over Moss, though.

Yeah if it was a non-flex league I probably wouldn't have picked Westbrook and Sideburn probably wouldn't have picked Taylor.

K. Jones (avg 16 pts per game)
Gonzo (avg 16 pts per game) (100 yards receiving alone score 16!!!

A bit generous with those point totals don't you think?

Which one? You have to figure...bonus points! If Tony Gonzalez goes for 100 yards and a TD that's 22 points!

If Kevin Jones runs for 100 catches 4 passes for 30 and scores 1 TD. That is 22 points!

I don't think I splurged on any of them... in fact I think I was pretty fair and perhaps shorted some a bit.

Bulger is projected to have 4300 yards passing and 28 TD's. IMO, that's right on with the yards and low on the TD's. Every single person that's been to a Ram camp has said the same thing... they are sharp and it's rare that a pass touches the ground. Also he's shown that he's not afraid to run in the preseason and could have a couple scores on the ground! He's also probably the 2nd or 3rd most likely QB to throw for 300 which gives an extra bonus!

You think Boldin isn't good for 900 yards and 7 TD's? You think that Evans can't match his rookie year #'s... well that one is kind of iffy b/c of Losman, but the rest of them are pretty damn close. I've been through this rodeo before brah... I know the deal!!!

Broncoman13
09-07-2005, 01:44 PM
BTW, Cry for me Vermeil was on the tube last night and said that LJ would get his fair share of carries. Insiders hear it will be to the tune of 10-15 touches a game. No reason to think he won't avg. 4.5 yards or better per carry!!! Also no reason to think he won't go for 7 or 8 TD's. Last year he had 9 TD's in 120 carries! So figure about every 13 or so touches he's good for a score. 160-220 total touches on the season. 4.5 per touch (low ball no?) gives him 720-1100 total yards. One TD every 13 touches would give him 12-16 TD's. Lets say he has 800 yards and 12 TD's. That gives him his 12 per game pretty easily once you figure in bonuses. Put it to you this way. He had 860 yards and 11 TD's in 142 touches last year!!!

Is it me or has nobody counted on bonuses or used them before???

Here is my opinion of both teams:

QB- Advantage Oskie. Bulger is better then any of the 3 guys that Rascal has as far as starters go. Rascal may have better depth but if given the choice between Bulger/Griese or Palmer/McNair/Delhomme, I'd take Bulger/Griese

#1 RB- advantage Rascal. Obviously Rascal had the higher first round pick (probably #1). Only a moron wouldn't have the better #1 RB picking 1st overall.

#2 RB- Advantage Oskie. Martin and K Jones are close but I give the slight advantage to the young/hungry legs. Defense's will key on the WR 3 headed monster which should give room for Kevin Jones to run.

#3 RB- Advantage Rascal. I'm not big on Westbrook but he racks up the receiving yards. Parker is a real nice fit for a couple weeks, and who knows, maybe the Priest goes down and LJ steps in. If that happen, my opinion would quickly change from advantage Rascal to advantage Oskie here. However, for now, advantage Rascal.

RB depth- Advantage Oskie. LJ, Duckett and Toefield over Barlow, CTaylor and Green. OSKie has major upside while Rascal is filled with disappointments. Green and Barlow were supposed to be stars. Now, they are both bench warmers or close to being there. Even if Jamal Lewis goes down Chester Taylor will split time with Musa Smith.
Duckett will have opportunities to score TD's every week. If/when the Priest goes down, LJ will be a top RB. Toefield is supposed to be Fred Taylor's backup but I aint buying. He's a throw away.

WR- Push. I really like Rascal's WR's save for Muhammad. He will be the yearly FA WR flop. Michael Jenkins will have a breakout year. Horn is solid and Quitterson should post decent numbers.
Evans, Boldin, Greg Lewis, and Brandon Lloyd are all poised to post really good numbers. at least 2 of the 4 should post 1000 yards this season if not all of them. Greg Lewis looks awesome all camp for the Egirls. If Lloyd had a QB, he would be a stud. Thankfully, for Oskie's sake, Rattay is starting and not Smith. Derrick Mason will fit in the same catagory as Muhammad... Free agent WR flop.

TE- Advantage Oskie. They are bar none the 2 best TE's in the league. If it were a keeper league, Rascal would have the advantage hands down. However, this is not a keeper league. Given the choice, I lean towards Gonzo because he is more established, he doesn't have the sophomore jinx over his head. He didn't lose his TE coach, and he has a better offense and QB.

Kicker and D don't really matter but Oskie has the advantage in both. Give me Vanderjackoff and the Panthers over Stover and the J-E-T-S SUCK SUCK SUCK.

With all that said, I have no idea how the draft went. Who went when, who needed who, etc. On paper though, I give the edge to Oskie, but both teams look strong.

Bman is projected to have 99 pts this week according to the terrible Sportsline projections sheet (its a sucker projection) and the team projected with the highest points this week is Shack with 105!

Who's got the crappy team again Shacky?

Those point totals are for chit! They show Bulger with 17 points playing the Niners and show Manning w/20something playing the Ravens. Who knows... that was one of many goofs. Willie Parker starting at RB for the Steelers w/only 7 pts! RIGHT!!! :juggle: They're also messed up on kicker and Defensive point projections. I think they showed the high week at 8 pts. No way no how... Denver's D scores more than that vs the Phins!!!

They don't take bonuses into account...

He owed me that one for backing him up on with Smurf's post about his chic on the av. That and my team is flat out better!!!

Gates catches TD's. Gonzo catches TD's and posts 100 yard games! Keep this in mind which is why I went after him in round 3 in every draft this year. 100 yards = 16 pts. 80 yards = 11 pts. TD's are gravy!!! I'll take 11 points from the TE position ANYTIME! Look at Gates last year. He had a few games with multiple TD's... that gave him big points. He doesn't get a lot of receptions or yards though. He'll avg around 8 while Gonzo avgs closer to 12 or 13.

Kicker and D don't really matter but Oskie has the advantage in both. Give me Vanderjackoff and the Panthers over Stover and the J-E-T-S SUCK SUCK SUCK.

Says you!!! 40 yard FG's worth 4 or 5 points. And the real kicker... missed FG's cost you 3,4, and 5 points. You can easily end up with some -3 point games if your kicker has a bad day!

As for the defenses. A top unit like Balt (FU Slap for taking them so damn early! lol) or Buff are worth a lot in this league. 10 points or less is worth 7 points on its own! Now factor in the yards, Ints, FR, and sacks! I see a few of the top units like Buff and Balt putting up 20 point games fairly often!

Put it to you this way. Colts win this weekend 30-17. That means Vandy kicked 3 FG's and 3 PAT's. Say two 35 yarders and one 45 yarder. That's a 16 point week! Take away a FG and a PAT and it's still a 10 point week... for a kicker! The nice thing about Vandercrack...he doesn't miss too often so he won't cost me points!

I agree. I was just saying that no one could care about hearing insight on a Kicker.
the scoring system is the main reason I took Akers in the Mane league. I never, NEVER take a kicker before round 14. With the scoring system in place, I targeted a top kicker!

Ouch sounds rather painful.

Went sledding with my dad about 10 years ago and that led to an unfortunate event as well. We were going down a steep hill in a tabogan and I was "driving". The hill ended at an old creek bottom. I tried to steer that crazy thing and shift my weight to one side to get that crazy thing to go anywhere but straight. But nope it didn't. We went off one edge of that creek and landed on the other...right onto a bolder. Broke my dad's tailbone in two places. He doesn't let me drive anything anymore.

Sometime I'll have to tell you my skiing stories. I've been to the hospital more times then I'd like to admit. Being an engineer you would think I would understand the physics of trees being able to withstand an impact better then me but for some reason about every 2-3 years I try to test physics and I always lose.

Just a recap of the trades that just went through:

Shack gets Bulger, D Mason, and Willie Parker.
Bman (Oskie) gets M Bennett, B Favre, and T Owens

I get Isaac Bruce and Shayne Graham
Magina gets Kevin Barlow and M Stover

No action for a while and then bam two multiplayer deals. If you were invovled in these trades you might want to check your starting roster!!!

Starting roster is updated. I truly think that I gave up an awful lot to get T.O. I think Willie Parker will bring some big points for the rest of the year. But I would have given him up for a straight swap for TO... I knew Shack wouldn't do it though and with his question marks I can see why. I really didn't like giving up Marc Bulger. He has 8 home games left and he's usually a lot better QB at home! Favre should be okay b/c he'll have to put the ball up a lot b/c of a terrible defense...they'll play a lot of catch up ball. That will bring the yards, unfortunately it will bring the INT's too. If he can give me 14-17 points per game I'm more than happy. I could afford to lose Parker b/c I have 4 other RB's on my team that should put up atleast 10 points on a consistent basis... If Michael Bennett finds the light (doubtful) I'll have a stable of RB's to choose from! Bennett is rumored to be traded to AZ. IF that goes through he could come alive. Again, doubtful but a possibilty. Like I told Shack though, I threw Bennett in the mix b/c he's better than anybody I can sign as a FA.

New starting lineup:

Favre/Griese depending on match-up
McGahee, Kevin Jones, Diaper Johnson, TJ Duckett and M. Bennett
Terrell Owens, Anquin Boldin, Lee Evans, Brandon Lloyd, and Greg Lewis
Tony Gonzalez (needs to get some points...he's been poor so far!)
Vandercrack (doing well so far)
Panthers and Bears D's

I'm now strong at WR with Boldin, Owens, and Lloyd
I stay strong at RB with my big three
I drop off a good bit at QB with Favre and SOB... I should be able to play the matchups though.

What are you talking about? Kevin Jones and Lee Evans for Westbrook and Engram is FAIR! What do you expect McGahee and Owens for Westbrook and Engram? ..... LMAO, if you would have looked at Kevin Jones 2nd half of the season and his week 16 matchup you would have probably thought long and hard about it!

Shacky, I think you got raped on that trade.

I'm not so sure about that... All three players probably start for his team. Willie Parker is obviously a bigtime upgrade over Bennett and will allow him to play 3 RB's rather than 2... If you look at it this way it makes a bit more sense.

Before he was avg. about 15 with Favre, 21 with Owens, and 0 with Bennett. Now he'll avg. 17 with Bulger (+2), 24 with Parker (+3) and 10 with Mason (+10).

He's gaining points. I'm losing a couple per game with Favre but I've been leaving a top 10 RB on the bench every week in Larry Johnson. Now I can play him so losing Parker doesn't kill me. The only way I make out in this trade is if Parker goes down. He's avg 24.5 pts per game. Even if Bettis comes back to do short yardage you're looking at 18 points per game from your third RB! That would be the highest on his team!

LMAO, if you would have looked at Kevin Jones 2nd half of the season and his week 16 matchup you would have probably thought long and hard about it!

Lee Evans is worthless currently and so is K Jones.

Engram is getting close to 10 passes a game on that offense and Westbrook is kicking ass this year.

Yes I know his history from last year, but you are assuming he starts rolling like last year. Big assumption. Kevin Jones is about the same value as Martin right now...definetly not Westbrook. Westbrook has put up 35+ points thus far. Yes I know his schedule...did you happen to look at Westbrook's schedule in the playoffs...Giants, Rams, Cardinals. He will eat them alive.

Give it up...I'm not giving up Westbrook who is a sure thing right now for a RB that POTENTIALLY might resort to his second half form on a PATHETIC offense. Westbrook is on an awesome offense and will get his points even in low scoring games (look at the game with Atlanta). He probably won't break 100 yards rushing but I'll take 120 overall yards on a consistent basis and a TD three games out of four all the way to the SB.

You want one of my RB's for that combination...come and talk to me about Martin.

Thanks kid... I'm still reeling from my 2 point loss to Pezman. Once again my freaking Bench outscored my starters! I didn't deserve to win that week anyhow... but 65-63 or whatever it was is tough to swallow. Not quite as tough as those of you that lost 106-100 or something to that affect mind you, but it was tough!

Yeah, plus I just secured the services of Jamie Martin to make sure you couldn't use him against me... I'll trade him to you though! ;D

BTW, anybody see the blockbuster between Slap and I? I'll never root for Randy Moss... if that fool misses the rest of the year I won't cry. Sucks giving up T.O. for him, but that's okay. Win win as far as I'm concerned!!!

I'm playing for the future... I don't stand a chance this weekend. But, once I get Julius Jones and Randy Moss healthy I'll have a pretty good combo. Dunn has been putting up good points. Moss when healthy is almost a guaranteed 12-15. Julius Jones when healthy is good for 15-20. Dunn's 15, Moss's 15, Jones' 15, and Favre's 20 is 65 by itself. Boldin, L.J. Smith, and Larry Johnson or Shipp are good for right around 10, 7, 10, and 8 respectively. Plus the 10 or so I've been getting from my D's. That should put me back up at around 110 a game. It won't happen this week, but it will happen in time for me to make a run and luckily my division isn't lighting it up right now.

3 teams in my division are 3-3. One is 2-4. I'm @.500 and still tied for the lead. I can afford to lose this week, which I will, and then come on strong later in the season.... WHICH I WILL!

it ain't over yet

you just need a big night by Warrick Dunn and you win

of course that is normal for me

for once I'd like a team to score under 100 against me

I'm hoping for a 100 yards rushing 55 yards receiving and 2 TD's for Dunn. That and a 30-27 type game... the winner of the game matters not! Falcons D scores 5 points for you, Dunn scores 30 for me... I WIN!

I'm sitting pretty now! When Julius comes back I'm going to make a run. I have a couple other deals out there...hopefully one of them goes through for me!

I don't know... maybe b/c Palmer has avg 15 points per game over the past 3 weeks (17 on the season) while Brunell has averaged 23 over the last 3 weeks (18 on the season). And you still have a bye week to play through... but yeah, there's no other reason why you should trade for him. Forgot to mention that the 10th rated WR was part of that deal too I see!!!

But I'm looking to trade Delhomme/Kennison (or Mush or Jurevicius) for those needing QB help for a decent RB or WR.

BTW, are you ever going to make a deal with anybody. Half of the fun in fantasy football is dealing players. Sometimes you do better, sometimes you do worse. It's not like you spent $250 to get into this league and you aren't going to win $30k if you win... have some fun!!! In other words, don't be a pussy all your life! ;D

I conceded this game and next weeks when I made the McGahee trade. Congrats on the win...BIATCH! ;D

I'm actually very suprised (perhaps even a little impressed!) that my team hung with yours. You have to consider that my two best players were injured and on my bench. This team is going to be strong going down the stretch! I'm going to force you guys to keep me out of the playoffs. Still trying to make another deal or two... there's no point having two top 5 QB's IMO. I'll deal either Brunell or Favre and a top 10 WR for a Top 5 WR or Plax. I've offered some trades...check your shiat people!

Same as last year... 3 division winners and 3 wildcards

But dont forget the coveted second annual Geek "Toilet Bowl" for the teams that didnt qualify for the real playoffs. Look for ol' Pezzy and his flaming turds competing there this year :moody:

I gave up Hasselbeck and McCardell for Favre and Brandon Lloyd. Basically I gave up a bench player for a bench player, and I feel like I upgraded at qb.

Rascal
10-27-2005, 08:35 AM
You think so?

Have you checked out Favre's schedule compared to Hasselbeck's? Plus Favre can't keep throwing it like he has after loosing all his weapons.

They're going to be doing nothing but throwing the ball since they have Fisher running the ball now. Hasselbeck hasn't done much other than be consistant.

qbs don't mean much anymore these days. everyone has scaled back the points given for them because of Payton's year.

true, but one point difference is still one point.

alot easier for a wr or rb to get that one point than it is for a qb
