Unwilling to be a bit player with the Broncos, Jerry Rice, retired Monday, closing a 20-year career for the most productive receiver in NFL history.
Regarded by some to be the best receiver in the history of the NFL, Rice, now 42 years of age, will consider coaching as a suitable way to utilize his unparalleled experience on and off the field. He was brought in by the Denver Broncos this offseason as an agent of depth chart competition, but more importantly as a veteran in the mix of young receivers. It is apparent that any player would benefit from the presence of such an experienced NFL player.
Do you think coaching is a feasible option of Rice's future?

I think he'll do it.
Or a conditioning coach. His workouts are legendary in the sports world.

He'll take a couple years off before he does that.

last year Paul Molitar, one of the best MLB hitters ever, became a pitching coach for the Mariners. The first thing he did was try to get Ichiro to change his swing, which resulted in a disasterous April for one of today's best hitters. He was fired last year, Don Baylor was hired and the whole team is doing much better hitting.
This isn't to say that Rice couldn't be a good coach, but I'd give him about 3-4 years away from the game to figure out if coaching is something he'd like to try. IMO, Watson is doing a great job, especially with a complicated offense.

seems like "give some time" may be the best option. of course I don't believe Jerry Rice will suddenly announce he will coach.

Jerry will probably not coach. He's more a "lead by example" type guy. As a coach he would actually have to teach his ways, and i dont think thats his best attribute.

Somehow I don't think Rice would become a QBs coach. Just because you're a great hitter, doesn't mean you can coach pitching. Same thing for a WR, doesn't mean you could coach QBs.

I don't see him stooping as low as coaching (in his mind that is). He should be signing on as Raffies Viagra replacement. He will do the Joe Maryanna comercials & bank $ off his name (that is what I would do) Why work when you don't need to.
Plus I don't think he could put in the hours these guys do. I see him end up as on some pre-game show before becoming a coach. That way his ego gets stroked on a weekly basis like Mr Jimmy J & Mike Irvin...

actually, in that case, a CB would coach QBs. WR would coach a DB.

I don't think anybody would hire him. The media would only be talking about Jerry Rice and not the team or the head coach.

i dont think he'd make much of a coach either.
his effort and training is modern folklore, but he's NEVER really been a VOCAL leader.
he leads by example, but not by voice.
to be a coach, you have to be able to connect and TEACH, and jerry rice has and does seem too self centered to be able to do that.
i agree with whomever said he would be better suited for announcing.
