To pare down to the NFL mandatory 53-man roster, the 49ers waived 15 players on Saturday. The 49ers waived six veterans, five first-year players and four rookies.

The 49ers waived veterans DE Tony Brown, LB Ray Wells, CB Willie Middlebrooks, G Scott Peters, CB Rayshun Reed and LB Richard Seigler, first-year players CB Allan Amundson, T Brendan Darby, C Norm Katnik, T Tim Provost and LB Matt Yates, and rookies FB Tony Ficklin, WR Marcus Maxwell, RB Bobby Purify and CB Daven Holly.

A total of 16 new players made the 49ers final roster with nine of the team’s 11 2005 draft picks, two rookie free agents and five veteran free agents.

He didn't play much against the Chargers a couple of nights ago, but he was repeatedly caught behind the line of scrimmage when he did play.

Willie's a heck of a ST-er. If he's not damaged goods he should be back and Roc ousted. I've no confidence in Roc. Willies' not bad when he gets on the field. Willie became a pretty good ST's player, plus he's good depth at CB. If he'll come back for a modest contract I'd say to do it. Doubt you trade a player and then bring him back though. Nice option, but I doubt it happens.
