Colts reach multiyear agreement with Corey Simon

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- The Indianapolis Colts, hoping to fix their one glaring weakness, reached a multiyear agreement Thursday with Corey Simon, a Pro Bowl defensive tackle released by Philadelphia in a contract dispute.

Simon wanted a long-term deal with Philadelphia and refused to sign a one-year franchise tender. The Eagles removed the franchise tag on the former first-round draft pick Sunday, making him an unrestricted free agent.

The Colts were quick to pounce.

Bruschi: 'I'm definitely playing next year'

September 2, 2005
NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. (AP) -- New England Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi says he plans to play next year after taking this season off to recover from a mild stroke.

Bruschi, in an interview with The Boston Globe, broke his silence about his future, which he said includes conducting a public awareness campaign about strokes. He was stricken in February.

``I'm definitely playing next year,'' he said in the interview from his North Attleborough home. ``That's my ace in the hole. It's a little hard to sit back and watch the guys (this season), but it's easier knowing I've got something to look forward to.''

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Drew Brees hobbled off the field, his night's work done after throwing a touchdown pass and spraining his right ankle.

``It's always kind of a sigh of relief after the preseason is over and you look at your squad and we're relatively healthy right now,'' Brees said after the San Diego Chargers beat the San Francisco 49ers 28-24 in an exhibition finale Thursday night. ``That's what you always strive for.''

Brees, the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year in 2004, sprained his ankle while throwing a 13-yard touchdown pass to Kassim Osgood on the fourth play of San Diego's first drive.

NFL commissioner: Saints unlikely to play in New Orleans

September 1, 2005
NEW YORK (AP) -- NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue says it's unlikely the Saints will play in New Orleans this season after the devastation Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath inflicted on the city.

The Saints will move into a hotel in San Antonio, Texas, this weekend and practice in San Antonio in preparation for their regular-season opener at Carolina Sept. 11. They have spent this week in San Jose, Calif., and played their final exhibition Thursday night in Oakland.

But it still hasn't been decided where they will play their regular-season opener Sept. 18 against the New York Giants or play the rest of their games.
