I know, I know...we are Broncos fans here, but I'm starting the campaign today. Maybe this will end the Saints bad voodoo. Lord knows, they need some luck in the Big Easy. Im picking my official them as my "2006 NFC team".
Go Saints. Who dat?

As long as we beat the crap out of them when they get there, I'm OK with it.

I have kind of adopted them as my unofficial NFC team as well. It would be nice if the franchise finally had a Cinderella type season to give the citizens of the area a little joy, something to lift them and inspire them through their tough uphill climb.

I think by now the Patriots have all but squashed doubt about the legitimacy of their first Super Bowl title. If anybody deserved to win in 2001, wouldn't it have been the Big Apple or D.C. instead of New England?

Al Davis created the "tuck rule". It was a legit call. Plus, they steamrolled the Steelers who were the #1 seed with Drew Bledsoe stepping in.

Trust me, I don't want to open a can of worms. I leave that clown alone now. He's hopeless. Let's just say we don't see the same universe. He's got tunnel vision, I try to see all angles. Never mind that, he's only managed a few posts on the main forum, and as usual, were laced with Bush hatred.

The Pats had some real talent on that team. I don't see it happening with the Saints.

Would make for a great story, and they have become the lovable losers of the NFL, but no. Are they going to play in the Alamodome this year? or have they decided? Anyway you look at it Benson got a gift from Katrina. He's been asking for either a new Stadium or an overhaul to the Superdome, or he has threatened to move them to his hometown of San Antonio. Looks like he's got them there already.

I'm not feeling the love for the Saints. I'm going to pick my spots to bet against them while the NFL sends them barnstorming through the League. Or does only the League's home team get that advantage?

Slap, I think that its safe to say that the Saints will not get the homeboy treatment.

I notice Tagliabue couldn't wait to award the Giants an extra home game this year.

I never believed in the " a person can have two teams" thing because I highly question anyone who can split their loyalities.
That said, I've always had a soft spot for the Saints. I've never actually followed them but I did love going to games there. Outside of Denver, there was no better place to see a game & build a weekend around than the city of New Orleans.
The only way I'd cheer for them is if they did make it to the Super Bowl and were matched up against an AFC team I totally despised.......like the rest of the AFC west, The Ravens, The Fins or The Colts.

I was born in Houma, so they are a sort of home-town sentimental thing for me. I have always pulled for them because they have been so terrible.
John Elway brought me into the Broncos' camp. Its amazing, but my loyalty to them today is based in appreciation for Elway. I have appreciated other players as well, but Elway was the one.

Married men split their loyalties all the time. Mom and wife. Kids and wife. Son and daughter.
People split their loyalties all the time in America. Its called being an American. Those immigrating here moved here because of the idea of America is great. But they still love their home country right?
Point is, its OK to have split loyalties and cheer other teams as long as you have only ONE real team. The Broncos.

One could also argue for the customer-franchise approach to fandom. Why pull for a team when they are full of players that you dont like and lose on a regular basis? Personalities that win are the selling point in football. This is why nobody likes the Raiders :)

I generally watch the aint's more in the early game slot, but they were hard to watch early on last year. Victor Riley played .... like victor riley. Horn is .... detached. The QB is the dumbest QB in the league ... BVP not counting.
But if the aints played den there is no question I'm for Den.

Talk about your sour grapes. Just for clarification... When the Broncos lose a few games this year will you be moving any threads that have somehting negative to say about them like last season?

1. "Customer friendly approach to fandom" smacks of bandwagonism to me.
2. "Why pull for a team when they are full of players that you dont like and lose on a regular basis?" Because the team is always greater than the individual players...they come and go, but the franchise will always remain. Sorry, but people who deserted the Broncos when Elway retired (for instance) are not real Broncos fans...they are personality cultists.....it's a huge difference.
3. "Personalities that win are the selling point in football." to fair-weather fans yes.....Real fans don't need a personality to "sell" their team to them...they're there no matter what and if they're not, then (to quote the Disco Man) "They just don't get it!".

Yo...Break it Down!....
I agree for the most part, but your loyalties can change. If Denver traded every player on their team right now for the most morally challenged player at their respective position in the league, I would lose interest until some other guys came in. I just dont want to support something like that.
I grew up next to the University of Oklahoma and loved that school until I went to another school with a great and unique atmosphere.
The Saints represent the hope of the poor people of New Orleans. How can you not pull for their team?

The team is always greater than the individual. I can condemn and despise players on the team I support (and have...such as Sharpe and Portis, for example) but still remain a diehard Broncos fan....because the team is what I root for......not the individual players. I'll never turn my back on the Broncos even if every slug in the league played for them.....why? because they are just temps....like all players are....they come and go, but the Team remains far beyond the memory they'll leave.

College is no different IMO. I was never a fan of the teams of the colleges I attended....mainly because I was an Orangeman fan and refused to turn my back on them.

I do hope they do well and remain in NOLA.....but to suggest that I should adopt them as my "second team" or "NFC Team" or what have you is just plain wrong IMO. I'm a Broncos fan and only a Broncos fan till death or relocation do I part...anything else is inexcusable and amounts to sports adultry as I see it.
