Would anyone follow a self imposed gas embargo on Sundays.....just don't spend money on gas or convience stores on sundays. Can you do it?

Also..do you like Broncos Football?

And do you think Jake will deliver this year?

Sure, just do on Saturday night what you would do on Sundays. That's easy. If you were going to get gas Sunday, just get it Saturday night. You plan ahead and do it a day early. Does that really accomplish anything though?

I put about 5 bucks a week in my honda every week. Pretty soon I guess that will only get me a gallon of gas. Still I won't put more then 4 gallons a time. I heard thats one of the only ways to hurt them.

It's what I've been doing...not 4 gallons...but 15 bucks..that's it. When that gets low...I don't travel. No one on this forum has seen hard times unless you were alive in the 20's. We are going to have to conserve...that much is certain...who's not travling this weekend that had planned too....(raises hand)

Regardless of whether or not we boycott gas on Sundays...we need hurt these companies in the wallet.

I'm not making any changes to anything I do over gas prices. I don't have time to make statements. I'm driving eight hours next weekend to go to a Bronco party in Indianapolis. I'm not missing that. Been planning it for well over a month now. Pay for the gas and move on. Life is to short to sit around and make political statements.

I'm getting old man. I'm not altering my life over gas.

The wonderful state of Kansas has it's own "embargo" on beer sales on Sunday...Do I consume any less beer?...no, I just buy more Saturday :) ....it's going to take a more concious effort on peoples behalf in order to hit them in their pocketbook.

I thought about selling my Honda but with the gas prices going up and up I think I will keep it. Sure its older but it still has lots of life left in it and the 25 plus MPG are nice to have. If I could find a metro I would buy that in a heart beat!

We should try to conserve. Turn the thermostat to 75, plan your driving to consolidate, try to car pool if it's easy. Drive the Toyota instead of the SUV unless you have a purpose for it. The apathy is easy, it's like "will my vote count", but there is power in numbers. Some A-hole gas station, Chevron, in Atlanta had premium over 4 bucks today. congress should give the President temporary authority to cap profit margins.

I'm damn lucky...I'm about to pull a move that's better for my health...and my wallet...I'm a support person for an Insurance Agent that operates in the south east. Well it's going to be tough to conserve during Broncos season. Our NY trip alone is 1781 Miles one way. At 7-8mpg I'm looking at 508 gallons of diesel round trip. I think carpooling might be a good choice on this trip. :)

I've just gotten a '96 Hyundai Accent two-door hatchback that my sister gave me because her husband got whacked into with it and she can't do manual transmisssion anymore. The passenger side door doesn't open, he replaced it himself with one that comes close to the original color paint. The interior is kind of messed up, the door handle keeps falling off...

...if you're finished laughing at my ****ty car, I get 35 miles per gallon, I have a ten gallon tank and I work about 17 miles from home-four shifts a week. I can fill that baby up once every two weeks when I get paid and still run errands around town. I think I'm in love.

The new generation hyundai's are much better. Word up, just run it to the ground. It's not worth maintaining. Minor stuff like oil changes, but those are really bad cars, and dangerous. Hey, a Yugo just drove by on 2 cylinders! It was just passed by a 3 year old on a big wheel that flipped him off.

I've heard several good reports on Kia's.

Hey, now. Don't talk **** about two cylinders. My wife's three cylinder Geo Metro ('91) is sitting in the side yard (no, I didn't pick it up and carry it out there...but I could have) because it's only really running on two cylinders right now. Still runs, though. And gets great gas mileage. Gonna have to get that thing fixed. Between us we could tow that kid on the big wheel.

The new J.D. combine and tractor both have power on need features to conserve fuel, but I'm kinda worried about not only fuel prices, but availability next month. A Semi towing 80,000 pounds of corn likes to drink alot. I wonder what my combine gets for MPG at 8 mph. I'm more panicked about just getting fuel more than the price.

Maybe we should tap the Iraqi oil... Oh wait we can't. Iraq has already drained America to the tune of 191 billion & counting. Where's our freakin oil!

The short of it:

First....understand there is a difference between oil and gas.

In the past week we've losted 15-20% of our own production machine. We've lost oil pumps, rigs....we've lost refineries....we've lost the ports that receive the oil tankers for the oil we import. It's not that the oil isn't out there....we can't refine it....we can't take it in...right now...and we've got no ETA on when production will be where it was before. Think about it...and don't panick.

This is what happens during a gas shortage, if the stations run out you just leave your car in line until the next day. It's not like the car's going to go anywhere without gas. It doesn't matter how much you are willing to pay if they run out.

Next.

One more thing, some people like farmers go to church but have to work on sunday to feed your asses? Do you? You think they deliver fuel on Sunday? HAH! Not here. And this isn't the Babtist South.

Baloney. You ask the nation to conserve. People do more than get gas at convenience stores, they get lots of useless stuff, pop, candy, chips, beer...This whole idea is totally idiotic. Without Gas these outlets will be closed on sunday, and it's just going to add to anxiety.

Next.

One more thing, some people like farmers go to church but have to work on sunday to feed your asses? Do you? You think they deliver fuel on Sunday? HAH! Not here. And this isn't the Babtist South.

The idea is idiotic and dismissed out of hand by me. I'm done with this thread.

I think my contribution to conservation will be holding on to my 97 Corolla and its 35+ mpg for a few more years (like I could actually let her go) .....God bless that car....still runs like the day I got it.

I only commute 2 miles each way to the commuter rail anyway.....it may be time to invest in a cheap bike instead, at least until winter comes along.

Well it's going to be tough to conserve during Broncos season. Our NY trip alone is 1781 Miles one way. At 7-8mpg I'm looking at 508 gallons of diesel round trip. I think carpooling might be a good choice on this trip. :)

That's exactly what I'm going to do...I'm lucky that I have the option to move my office around for a little while. Conserve...get by with less that's the point...for the "pointless" people.

I feel lucky to have a Jetta TDI that gets 42/50. However, at this point I am thinking about either making my own biodiesel or getting a conversion kit to run on straight veggie oil. I think not buying gas on just Sunday will not really impact things too much. However, if we all bought our gas and diesel from one or two companies, it might put the hurt on the other ones and force them to lower their prices. This would seem to make more sense. So we just have to decide on what companies they should be. I have heard that their are some companies that do not use oil from the Saudi's, I think those are the ones we should consider.

Just my two cents.

I don't know...does it not do anything?
It wouldnt do anything. Either way, people still need the gas, whether its bought on Saturday, Sunday or Monday matters very little. People still are going to fill up.

Supposedly, Citgo, Sunoco and Hess are the largest (at least around here) that don't use Saudi oil.

Shell and Mobil get almost all theirs' from over there, so I avoid them.

Well, lets just assume that everyone stops buying from Shell, Mobile, Exxon, etc and only buys from those supposed companies that DONT buy oil from the Saudi's.

Citgo, Sunoco and Hess (the examples you gave) would be then forced to buy oil from the Saudi's to keep up with demand. No matter how you slice it, we HAVE to have Saudi oil because there is not enough produced elsewhere to meet our needs.

Besides, if you go to snopes.com they talk about this (because its always in emails) and explain why these sort of things are just silly fanciful notions.

I tell you guys another thing...I'm in Louisville Kentucky on business ...I fly out tomorrow at 2:40...to charlotte...then home to Richmond...I'm a little worried I might not make it home. I might have to steal a horse.

This is funny. Only put $15.00 of gas in your car as a conservative measure. Then participate in burning up jet fuel.... Which guess what those nice, inland refineries are churning to produce? It ain't gasoline for you and me. So keep on flying.

This is another consumer misconception. People get information from the inport/export records. Just because a company is the importer of record doesn't mean it goes exclusively to their refineries. All those companies re-sell. Cargos are split. The crude is blended in the pipelines. Anyone who thinks they can purchase "domestic" oil is delusional.

I'll take either 2nd row, third from the left or top row, 2nd on the right

Damn! What website did you find this? Better than many of the Bronco cheerleaders. 2nd row, 4th from right; 3rd row, 1st on right; top row, 2nd on right too.

Best time to get gas is early morning or late evening when its less dense.

I would not commit to such a thing. If people are using the same amount as gas the rest of the week, how is anyone affected other than people inconvenienced by not being able to buy gasoline when they want to?

In Charlotte NC...waiting in the Airport...talking to people...Charlotte is out of gas and is only allowing it for emergency vehicles only. If you had travel plans this weekend in the southeast...you might want to suspend them.

and techincally your car isn't as fuel efficient when you don't fill it up either, cars get better gas mileage at the top end

agreed

it's back to the 80's

smaller cars, better gas mileage

I suspect Detroit is going to have another huge recession unless they start making more fuel efficient cars

I know I'm gonna do my part, I'm going to take the "gulp" bus to work
