View Full Version : Adding three weeks to the season AFTER the draft?

So are we really doing this?
It's my opinion that if we're going to be adding weeks after the draft, we should probably be voting on it. I don't mean to raise a stink, but I feel like I've already lost four huge games right out of the gate before week one has even started. If I'd have known that we were playing double headers for three weeks in a row right in the middle of the season, it would have completely changed my draft strategy.
I vote no. Unless you have something that says this has been the plan all along, and I just missed it. If this was something that was said before the draft, then I'll take my lumps. But otherwise, I feel like I'm getting the screw job on this one.

All I know is that Shack & Pez repeatedly stated before the drafts that the schedules had not been made yet.
So any draft based on assumptions about the schedules would have involved speculation.
The problem, of course, is the same problem you have in any game where the commisioners are also players. There are always going to be questions about their objectivity. I haven't really studied the schedules, but I'd assume that Shack and Pez were careful not to give themselves any sort of unfair advantage.

what I thought is, you wanted the interleague games TJ?
I didn't like the idea myself, ask Pezzy ;)
but we were following orders

Personally I like the idea that way I can beat up on Bman and Pez in interleague :)

I don't really care how you guys resolve it. I'm sure everyone is trying their best to be fair.
I'll throw out one possible alternative, though ...
No one has anyone on BYE in weeks 1, 2, 11, 12, or 13.
So maybe those would make better weeks for double-headers.
Obviously, it would suck for me (and rascal, in the NPN, I think) if week 1 was used as a doubleheader, since I spent a high pick on Gates who will miss that game. And because of the gap between the draft and waiver wire acessibility, the first week could be a little unbalanced as a result of injuries in the final couple weeks of preseason. (We've already seen a couple high picks get banged up over the weekend)
But that would still leave weeks 2, 11, 12 and 13 where everyone would be at full strength, such as it is.
It might also be more interesting if at least two of the doubleheaders were moved to the last part of the season, since it would theoretically keep wild card hopes alive a little longer for some of us.
But that's just a suggestion from the Old Dude peanut gallery.
You guys are doing the work so you call the shots.

well Pez set up the IL schedule to coincide with people's vital players bye weeks
so like people with Priest play each other when Priest is off.....etc etc (an example)

I dig interleague play. I just think it should happen during a non-bye week, especially given that we didn't know which weeks would count double. If games are going to count double, it should be during weeks that teams are at full strength, IMO.

Hmm, well its NOT too late to change this TJ, but to be honest, I painstakingly went through each teams rosters and scheduled it so that the head to head matchups would be as even as possible, based on certain players... IE, If you have LaDanian Tomlinson, then the person you play that week will have him as well.
I did that with the first 3 picks in everyone's draft with the hopes of making it as equal a matchup as possible. The only real problem I see with the move to the strong weeks like week 1,2 and 12 is that we would add confusion in which weeks we were to have our doubleheaders. But its possible, and so far, the dialog between everyone in both leagues would lead me to believe that we could all adjust accordingly if we were to change it.

Pez, I just spent the last week making trade offer after trade offer after trade offer to get my team set up for a midseason stretch that is going to be brutal. I always draft for playoffs then you popped this so I made some changes. Atleast I don't have a bunch of players w/ bye weeks on week 8... but I've also gave up some players that had AWESOME (the best!!!) match-ups in the playoffs. Do what you want now...but I'm ready for you NPN Frockers any week now... I THINK LOL

I guess my only request on this matter is that, whatever you all decide to do, that it be resolved one way or the other fairly soon, because I have a potential trade in the works that will depend heavily on whether we stay the same or switch.

Here's the deal.
Surrender to me in week one, and I will spare the women and children.

Hmm, I had a different deal in mind. I'll have to think that one over!

We can keep it the way it is, but it would be my preference that double headers happen during weeks when teams are at full strength. Like I said... If I'd have known that weeks 6-8 were going to cost me double, I would have dramatically changed my drafting strategy. However, during weeks where there are no bye weeks, nobody is put at a disadvantage.
I'll go with whatever, but will be disappointed knowing that I have to trade one of my two most valuable starters from a position of weakness, when I don't even want to trade either of them at all.

Do we have a final decision on this yet?

It seems like this should have been discussed by those who decided it, or pushed for it, before the season started. It seems a bit late as some people have started making roster moves to accomodate it. Everybody is going to get hit by it, just depends on how well you can adapt.

hmmm....roster moves...I did drop David Terrell....that was a good move by me.

Uh... I guess we're still adding weeks after the draft during bye weeks then? I think it undercuts people forcing them to play their weak rosters for double the damage.
For what reason can we not do this during weeks when there are no bye weeks?

I think it's a dead horse, TJ. I would have preferred the interleague games at full strength, but I'll crush the feeble wannabes of the NPN conference even with guys like Terrell Owens and Reggie Wayne and my awesome New York Jets defense on their bye weeks.

Yeah. Alright, I'll roll with it.
Next year, I think we should plan interleague games with rosters at full strength. If a game is going to count double, I don't want my bench players pulling the load.
