Picking out an apartmet in Jacksonville, Florida. I'm about ready to pay about $500 a month. I've found a few places.

The thing that worries me is that I have a plce to stay for free - I just hate living on a boat with 80 other guys in the same room with me. Its bizzare, one dude will my jerking off to porno on his mini-dvd player while two guys sitting next to him are watching re-runs Seinfield. The lack of privacy totally messes you up.

So I figure freedom (at least freedom for 3 weeks out of the month) is worth a third of my paycheck.

Here are the two places I've found - -

Option A - http://www.melrose.com/Jacksonville/CommunityPage.aspx?Page=Home
Very clean, pretty nice 3 bed/3 bath. Fully furnished, free wireless internet/cable TV. Privae bed and bathroom. It is actually a dormroom at the University of Florida, which I will be taking classes at next semester.

$479 a month

Option B - http://www.equityapartments.com/market/brochure.aspx?page=overview&PropID=454
Also clean, in a very quiet area surrounded by trees. Its more private and right next to the Navy Station I work at. But Cable/Satelite and internet cost more.

$494 a month

Lease on both is a year... but in a year, I will be at least a Third, maybe a Second Class Petty Officer, and I will be able paid for off-base housing.

I remember that and dont miss it one bit. I would suggest the place near the base thats what I did. Actually me and a couple of others chipped in and got a place. Worked out pretty well. Anyway back to my original thought I found it nice to be close to base because even when your not on duty you can still eat for free even when your not standing duty. Sometimes when $ gets tight its nice to still be within reach of a free meal

The ladies.... well. In homeport it's kinda hard to get out there. But underway, man its crazy when we pull in in our whites. Its like there are thousands of ladies ready to take advantage of ME.... seems like it's just because I'm wearing a white jumper, bell bottoms, and a sailor hat.

Besides, there is only one lady for me... and she lives in Stockholm. But hey, I talk to her on MSN Messenger everyday.

That said, I checked out both places. The one close to base is basically just a studio. Not many features.... you have to pay for cable and internet. Nothing else there to speak of.

The one thats like 15 minutes away from base I'll have to share a kitchen and living room, but I'll still have my own bedroom and bathroom. Plus we have a kickass fitness center, Effin nice pool, free internet, free laundry (water/electricticy), and a lot of other ****.

Plus I have kinda verbally 'agreed' to the latter. I could still back out of it though.

I got the Melrose place.

I got it for only $450 a month.

No deposit is required since I'm taking over the previous owner's sub-lease, so I will get back his deposit.... or if I choose to break the lease, that is the fine.

861 sq/ft 2bdr, 2bth.... furnished (pretty I might add) satelite TV, DSL internet, utilities included. It is a nice area with tons of palm trees a really nice pool and gym.

Kinda weird that the roomate they paired me up with is from Morrison he even went to Kendalview - the same elementary school I want to until 4th grade.
