Denver thrilled to have a healthy Pryce back
By Pat Graham
The Daily Times-Call
DENVER — The signs were there.
Signs proclaiming in big, bold letters that Denver Broncos defensive end Trevor Pryce was back, and better than ever.
Such as when Pryce shoved Indianapolis offensive tackle Tarik Glenn into quarterback Peyton Manning on Saturday and forced Manning to flee into the awaiting arms of fellow defensive lineman Ebenezer Ekuban for a 4-yard sack.
Or when, the week prior, Pryce put the fear of No. 93 into rookie San Francisco quarterback Alex Smith with a pair of sacks.
Both positive signs that Pryce’s back is completely healed.
“With each game, he’s taken it to another level,” Denver defensive line coach Andre Patterson said.
The back is no longer an issue. Pryce missed 14 games last season with a herniated disc, but you’d never know it by his play during the preseason. Pryce, a four-time Pro
Bowler, has never looked this good.
“I’ll tell you what ...” Denver defensive coordinator Larry Coyer said, stopping his sentence for dramatic pause as he stood outside the locker room Saturday following Denver’s 37-24 preseason win over Indy.
What?
“I think he’s getting there,” Coyer said. “He’s closer and closer and closer.”
Pryce doesn’t want to jinx himself by proclaiming the back completely healthy. He’ll say things like, “It’s on the mend,” or “It’s not bothering me right now.” Truth is, the rest of his body hurts — only natural thanks to training camp — more than his back.
“It does feel good to finally go out there and shake it loose a little bit,” Pryce said. “I was more there (Saturday) than I had been any other game. I was pretty ecstatic about that.
“I’ll probably watch film and get cussed out for doing something wrong.”

It can’t be much. Although, until coach Mike Shanahan watches the game again, he can’t say for sure.
“There’s so much more than watching the guy sack the quarterback,” Shanahan said. “What does he do in the run game, how does he play the defense? So I can’t tell you (if the Pryce of old is back).”
Linebacker Al Wilson can comment on that.
“He’s so close,” Wilson said. “He has the potential to be the best defensive lineman in the game, no question.”
Just think, four months ago, the Broncos were willing to sever ties with Pryce. They were shopping him around the league.

Good thing the Broncos couldn’t strike a deal. The best offseason move may have been not trading Pryce. He looks like his usually dominating self. He resembles the player that has registered 60 sacks in his eight-year career. Here’s an interesting stat: Denver is 39-11, including the postseason, when Pryce has a sack.
“You can see him starting to feel comfortable,” Patterson said.
That’s not welcome news for quarterbacks around the league. The only time a quarterback feels safe is when Pryce stands on the sideline in street clothes.
The last time Pryce had a sack in the regular season was Dec. 21, 2003, when he corralled Manning 11/2 times. He’s looking to update his resume.
“That guy is highly motivated,” Coyer said.
And you haven’t even seen Pryce at his best. He’s still waiting for his partner in crime to return. Dare to dream of the possibilities with Pryce on one end and Courtney Brown on the other end. Brown, who’s recovering from a dislocated elbow, may be back in time for the season opener Sept. 11 at Miami.
Speaking of the opener, Pryce is just ready to get on with the real thing. Sure, he’s looked good in the preseason, but that doesn’t count. He wants the real show to begin.
“The only thing that matters is Miami,” Pryce said. “I’ve enjoyed myself and we all have played well, but we’re ready for the season.”
Mistake free: The Broncos’ first-team offense has yet to turn the ball over during the preseason. Last season, Denver’s offense had 29 turnovers.
“No turnovers in three straight games — that’s huge,” receiver Rod Smith said. “We’re very careful with the football; that’s a great start for us.”
No guarantees: Bradlee Van Pelt doesn’t feel like the backup quarterback role belongs to him yet.
“I don’t know if I’ve proved (I deserve it),” Van Pelt said.
Against Indianapolis, Van Pelt was 3 of 6 for 43 yards. He had a 28-yard touchdown strike to tight end Jeb Putzier to put the game on ice.
However, he was highly critical of himself after the game.
“I made some mistakes I shouldn’t be making,” Van Pelt said.

Pryce has really kicked ass lately!
I bet the Chiefs wished they would have traded for him!

I apologize about the generic subject line, but the system wouldn't post it until I chopped it down to just "Pryce". I have had some minor hang-ups posting new threads with the new setup.

We just need Courtney to stay healthy now. Those two on the ends should be awesome to watch.

It was actually Ryan Diem that Trevor bullrushed right back into Peyton's lap. Diem has been the Colts starter at RT for the last four years. Makes you wonder if the author of the article bothered to watch the game.
It was definitely an encouraging sign, mistaken OT identity or not. Trevor was rolling that guy like he was wearing roller skates.

Dominating Diem is very different from bull rushing a perennial probowl tackle like Tarikk Glenn...
now i question the validity of that article in general.

If last week was "Pryce on the mend", then he's going to be on the mend all the way to the pro bowl. He was dominant.
Can someone pull up one of the old threads saying what a POS Pryce is and that we will be lucky to get a 5th round pick for him. Would be great to read what some posters were saying just a few months ago.
I would do it put I don't know how to search for it.

Here you go...
I like Pryce but he is not made to play full tilt or 16+ games. Every year he slowed down at the end of the year at first I thought he was a slacker than last year he admitted he just ran out of gas late in the season. With back surgery and age creeping up this is a great time to trade him. Good move on paper now lets see what this brings.

LMAO -Twice!
Ya got me, in my defense he has slowed down at the end of the season by his own admission. What is different this year is we have the back ups to keep him fresh all season anfd this is true for the entire D line.
We will be 'Kick Ass" this year because of our depth.
Here you go...
Thanks and ya got me

Trevor has looked great so far. Hopefully he'll stay healthy... and we'll start hearing his name called in big games.
