You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to -Slap- again.

Call it sophomoric, but anytime somebody uses "man-on-man sex" in a post, they're getting some rep from me.

Harrington needs to pull his head out of his ass and throw some good passes here, he's got a couple damn good WR's. Although his line hasn't helped.

I could easily see AZ winning that division. They've added a ton of talent on both sides of the ball the last couple years. Last year they had the best draft in the league and they stole Rolle and Arrington this year.

Don't overrate the Rams because they're whipping a lousy team on a rug. Don't forget, when they look good, they usually look great. They'll have the same problems they always do on the road, though, and Martz as a head coach is a severe handicap.

As a Harrington fan from his college career at Oregon, I was disappointed to see him drafted by the Lions. Classic case of a good QB's career wrecked by going to a bad team. Joey has a live arm and good football skills, but he needs something resembling pass blocking in front of him. Either that or some plays called to move the pocket and roll him out to one side or the other. Millen has spent his last three 1st round picks on WRs. It's an awesome arsenal, but what about some help for the O-line?

The other problem Joey has is that his personality style is not a good fit for the city of Detroit. He's an intellectual type, a concert-level jazz piano player, in a blue-collar Motown.

The local paper (The Oregonian, from Portland) ran an article in the preseason last year about the difficulty Joey was having in fitting into Detroit. Interesting read, and it highlighted that there's more to being the visible face of an NFL team than just having the football skills.

I really believe that one reason Elway was so successful and so popular in Denver was that his gunslinging, gambling, go-for-broke style matched up well with the region's personality and history. The zeitgeist was just right for Elway and Denver at the time. There was just something about watching Elway walk up to the line rubbing his hands together or spitting into his palms that just said "I've got it and you can't stop me." Later in his career, when he'd walk up to the center with that "old cowboy swagger," his body language captured the spirit and heart of the region he represented. Joe Montana was the precise, high-tech San Jose wine-&-cheese crowd in shoulder pads; Elway was the Marlboro Man come to play football. Was it really "just coincidence" that Elway's nickname at the end of his career was "The Duke?"

I'm not saying that Elway created this aura for himself intentionally, or that anyone else invested him with it deliberately. As far as I could tell watching from a distance, it just sort of... happened... because it was "right" at the time. The unconscious symbolic mythology also loaned some extra punch to his battles with Greasy Al and the Raiders. Professional wrestling is so popular because it's a black-vs-white, good-vs-evil morality play done larger than life with cartoon characters. We get tired of wrestling, tho, (or at least some of us do), because we know it's all rigged and scripted. With Elway's Broncos vs the Raiders, the blood and sweat of the contest were real. Undeniable. On the occasions when the Raiders won, we knew we'd get 'em next time... cuz good always wins in the end. Elway vs the Raiders had many of the same mythic elements that made Darth Vader vs Luke Skywalker so compelling -- but played out live on Sunday afternoons, without the silly science fiction and special FX.

Then again, I'll bet Mike Shanahan could stand in pretty well for Yoda...

Regards,
m.

He's a fine coordinator, who's out of his depth as the head man. He's certainly not doing Bulger any favors by forcing him to absorb the mammoth Martz ego, expressed in gameplan form, every weekend.

I thought Harrington would be a QB but I noticed something watching a little of that game. He doesnt have great accuracy. Even without pressure, he missed at least 5 passes to open receivers (throwing it in their general direction too).

And I didnt even watch very much of that game.

the only reason bulger is close to as good as he is now is because of martz. like I said, its weird how he gets there, and he is a little like a savant and some of the stuff he lacks is in the head coaching area. but when u distance urself he does get pretty good results, as oddball as they may come about.
