Some of the others included defensive tackle Luther Elliss, a Mancos native, defensive end Raylee Johnson, quarterback Danny Kanell, receiver B.J. Johnson, guard Tim Stuber, tight end Patrick Hape and former Colorado School of Mines quarterback Chad Friehauf.
Broncos coach Mike Shanahan and general manager Ted Sundquist could not be reached for comment.
Hape, a nine-year veteran, said, "I got the old ax."
Hape, Elliss, Johnson and Stuber played Saturday night in the Broncos' 37-24 victory against the Indianapolis Colts at Invesco Field at Mile High.
"I'm sure he's still a little surprised, despite what's happened over the last three weeks," Steve Feldman, Clarett's representative, said.
"We'll see what kind of interest there is out there . . . that's our option at this point. The Broncos aren't going to bring him back to the practice squad.
"We'll just gauge interest and go from there."
The Clarett who walked around the Broncos complex during the past month was a far cry from the smiling player who promised in April, "I just want to get in there and work, work my butt off, anything to help the team, running the ball, special teams, anything. . . . I'm not sure if it's more motivation than other people, but I have to say my drive and my desire is very high right now. I can feel the energy."
Wow!
Did shanny finally pay off Hape enough to get his pictures back.... :alky:

Buh-bye Danny, Hello BVP!
I like Hape myself, he's a versitile contributor, but I think it came down to him or Leach. Leach has impressed enough in camp to take Hape's TE duties away, and KJ has taken his H back/FB work. He'll be missed, but I don't think that much.
As for Clarett, well, pisses me off that the kid by all acounts basically half assed it. I said at the draft I'd rather have Brandon Jacobs but I was willing to give Mo a shot. Clearly he didn't come into camp with the right attitude. Nice to see that Shanahan and co. won't tolerate that, even from a first day draft pick. Should send a message to all the many other new guys we've added this off-season.

Peter King article
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writers/peter_king/08/28/mmqb.0829/2.html
I think Maurice Clarett's biggest mistake wasn't missing two weeks of training camp with a bum groin. I was there the day he made his biggest mistake in camp -- going to plead with Mike Shanahan to let him run with the first team so he could show what he could do. Shanahan told him to wait in line. And Clarett did that with a bad groin -- knowing he couldn't practice that day and probably not for a day or two beyond that. That day or two turned into two weeks. Shanahan knew he couldn't trust Clarett to give his all as a special-teamer, which the rookie back would have had to do to make a contribution to this team. That's why he's an ex-Bronco today. Talk about a dumb pick by Denver.

Peter King article
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writers/peter_king/08/28/mmqb.0829/2.html
Any of Peter King's articles aren't fit to be used as toilet paper. The guy has very little specific knowledge about the current game and deals in the land of generalities. The extent of his bs is stuff like Favre is a great QB, to win SuperBowls you need a great D etc.
He can go ahead and call the Clarett pick a dumb one. In retrospect it is. But the only reason it's news is because of what MoC did three years ago even before he got to the NFL. The vast number of third round picks that bust, or get released a year later won't make a blip on this guy's radar but stating the obvious sure does.

I didn't realize that Leach actually could play. I so seldom hear his name called. That is great news. Nate Jackson succeding at TE, Warren being able to play FB, depth at both positions...this has to be a tough cut for Shanny.
Hape never did anything wrong here in Denver. I bagged on him and was wrong for it because he was never in the press, never caused anyone troubles, and just scored touchdowns when we needed. I don't think he walked up to the coach and asked for that call. He just did what he was asked to do to better the team.
I wish the guy all the best.

It wasn't the content of the article, it was the scene he described, that makes MoC look uncoachable. As for SI, most of their writers suck ass. I won't disagree.

9. I think the Steelers won't be cooked against Tennessee if they have to play Willie Parker at running back. With Duce Staley out for at least another month and Jerome Bettis likely gone for a while with a calf injury, Parker's up next -- and he's done it before on a pretty big stage. Last January, in the season-finale at Buffalo, with the Bills playing for their playoff lives, Parker was the best Steeler on the field -- 19 carries for 102 clock-eating yards. Don't go jumping off any tall bridges, Steeler fans. Parker will give you a good game against the Titans and longer if he has to.
Jeeze Pete. Can you hate on the Broncos anymore and kiss the Steelers azz anymore than you have here?
Please Pete, tell us again whose dick your sucking in the NFL. Could it be Rooney's?
I don't understand why Petey doesn't just come out and say "I really don't like the Broncos or Mike Shanahan and I really prefer to kiss the collective asses of East Coast teams, as much as possible when I do one of my articles...."

Really? can you provide a link so I can apologize to Pete?
My bad, I see where King predicted Plummer as the MVP in 2004, but he did not eloborate on why he thought Plummer would get it.
As for 2003 MVP predictions, I could not find that.
I still think that King has a propensity to bash on the Broncos whenever he can. Calling the Clarrett pick dumb is over stating the situation.
The Broncos had three third round picks, one of which the used on Clarrett, as the last pick of the third round. The Broncos did this largely based on Bobby Turner's input. If Turner felt Clarrett was worth the gamble, then, as the last pick of the first day, it is a reasonble risk to take. Not a wasted pick.
King makes it sound like the Broncos did this with no for thought and on a Shanahan whim and that is just not true.
Furthermore, any pick in the draft that does not pan out, in hindsight, can be construed as a "dumb" pick. All picks are gambles, some are greater than others. This pick by the Broncos was a calculatted risk, worth taking.

You know what, I think he just called like he saw it. With Mo's history it was a dumb pick. Shanny had to be prepared for the criticism when he stepped up and took the shot. Here it is. Shanny is tough enough to take it and probably doesn't really give a hoot what Peter King thinks.
Peter King is one of the few guys that I don't think has a bias against Denver. I was also impressed with how complimentary Phil Simms was on Saturday; of course that changed with ebb and flow of the game. He was very complimentary in the 1st quarter when we in Peyton's face on every play. I don't like much of the writing done about the Broncos at ESPN or anything from "Dr. Z". I spent an hour reading all the garbage he wrote leading up to Super Bowl 32, talk about looking like an idiot.

Turner got his pick and even he most likly told Shanny to cut the loser. I am sure Turner appreciated Shanny going out on the line for him. Some teams trade a couple 1st round picks for a head coach, is Turner worth the last pick in the third round?

Not saying AL would not have taken MoC if he would have been there (not in the 3rd) but that was about the fastest exit of a 3rd rounder in the history of the NFL
