Which Broncos player did you feel played the best game?

Engleberger hasn't been figured in yet by the usual observers. He might be a giant.
Wouldn't that be fun to see?
(I drafted Lelie tonight. 10th round. He was a steal.)

I was leaning towards Anderson but then I thought "hey we are talking about Denver's running game." I have to give the nod to Darrent Williams. What he did against the explosive Colts is pretty amazing for a rook.

DW did really fly around the field. I call him the Hornet because he is small, fast and stings.

I agree, but coming off an injury, Anderson exploded through the colts defense.
Slice Bread!
Williams gets the next vote from me. I was in awe at what he was doing, i havent seen any of shanahan's rookie CB's do that. I thnought Oneal and Middlebrooks were good coming into the league, Darrent blows them out of the water.

The only rookie I have ever seen come in and play like that that I can remember under Shanny is DJ Williams. Two great picks

Both very good picks. D.J. Williams was a pretty high pick. D. Williams has been a surprise IMO. Mistakes in the defensive coverage doesn't upset me alot when he's a rookie and got pushed to starting corner. That alone is impressive.
D.J. Williams looked a little uncomfortable out there, but he will improve.
ESPN just called Jake Plummer "The Dirty Sanchez" while blowing off Manning.
Hey, Jake might look like a mini-me John Holmes, but he's not Ron Mexico.

D. Williams...for a rookie...any rookie, let alone a 5'8" rookie...to come in and hold his own against top flight receivers from the beginning at CB is pretty rare. To find one who hits and makes plays like this in the 2nd round is even rarer.

I've gotta go with DW. The fact that he was matched up on Harrison, and Peyton looked the other way most of the night speaks extremely highly of the rookie's coverage abilities.
Lelie impressed me too. Not so much with the TD, that's what we know he can do, but with the intermediate catches and being involved in the offense on a consistant basis.

Walls is the other player that was impressive,
On that one play that he slip and recovers and chases down the receiver and knocks the ball lose for a touch back!

Darrent, being a rookie gives him a slight edge when I cast my vote.

1. Mike Anderson - - In less than 3 full quarters of action nearly 160 rushing yards. Erase the 93 yard run and he was still averaging between 6 & 7 yards per carry. Plus a couple receptions. He was also open in the EZ on another play, where Plummer couldn't quite get the ball away. It was nice to see a Bronco back breaking tackles again. And he knows his assignments, can read the blitz, and does the dirty work too.
2. D. Williams. Couple rookie errors, but he covered top-notch receivers very well, was aces against the run, and made Manning pay on a CB blitz.
3. Trevor Pryce. The man is back.
4. Ashlie Lelie. Was a threat all over the field.
5. Jake Plummer. Give the guy some credit.
6. Lenny Walls - nice hustle.
7. G. Warren. My favorite Fullback. LOL He hit those Colts on the goal line like they were tenpins.

Which Broncos player did you feel played the best game?
BEST PERFORMANCES: (I can never name just one...)
Darrent
MA
D.J.
Burns-ey
Kyle J.
Ashley
Sauerbrun
Lenny
Engleberger
Pryce
Jeb
Dorsett
Even 'Q' and Ian played well.
And another guy - a guy I was CERTAIN would be cut - played GREAT after barely seeing the field in the first 2 games, and playing at the clubs most-crowded position . . . How about a big "OrangeMane.com" round of applause for . . . MONSANTO POPE?! :blowhorn: Maybe they're just showcasing him for a trade, but then again, maybe I've just been 'all wet' thinking Luther Elliss is 'all that.'
BAD PERFORMANCES:
Foxworth
Paymah
J.Lynch (or was that Tony Lilly?)
GOAT
The "other goat" (#17)
BTW - Danny Kanell's new blond hair suits him perfectly, because he is a GHOST!

Darrent Williams is an Antoine Winfield clone. We're all going to love this kid. San Diego must be eating their hearts out because we snaked him right out from under them on draft day. He hasn't even flashed the gamebreaking return skills yet.

I agree 110% What a GREAT pick he was!! The future looks BRIGHT!
I agree - Darrent is NAILS! But the thing I've been particularly impressed by is the fact EVERY SINGLE decision he's made on PRs and KRs has been solid! And he hasn't dropped a ball!
It must take real self-control (esp. for a flamboyant rook) to 'down' all those KOs in the endzone, even though several were just 4 yards deep.
And even though the low number of chances he's getting must tempt him to take a flyer on a return, he also shows serious disipline calling so many 'fair catches' on PRs (several right on the 9-yard-line - with the 10 being the standard cutoff for a return).
The latter frustration must be especially tough after Charlie Adams put on a track meet vs. SF!
I agree, NE Bronco - his future is so bright, he's gotta . . . 8')

Alot of great work today. I going with Plummer because last night he stood IN THE POCKET and delievered passes to WR and the safety values. Oline played well to, the long runs by Anderson were coming off the right side with Cooper and Foster blocking.

I have to go with Jake. He's having a really good pre-season with no picks. He looked comfortable out there last night and really did an excellent job. That pass to Ashley was absolutely perfect. Jake just looks good out there right now.

I woulda said MA but that is what he used to do and I know he can do it again. Williams as a rookie doin what he did against the colts recievers was pretty damn good. And I only saw one, be it a rather large, mistake.

I really thought that Engleberger played well, I was pleased with Lelie as well, he showed us he can now catch short route with traffic around eventhough his big play was on the rainbow pass in the endzone. he made a few mid-range/short grabs as well.

You know, if Anderson wouldnt have shown me tonight that not only can he get the tough yards, but also break one big, I would have voted for Darrent. I really liked how that kid played (my big homer OSU fan brother called right after that sack and he hates the Broncos, but he was cheering then) and am excited for the depth we now have in our secondary. However, Anderson settled my RB concerns tonight in a way that makes me very very happy.

Yep, DW would have had my vote, but coming off that injury last year, Anderson tore it up. Hopefully he can stay consistant.

I would have to vote for all those guys! Total team effort!
My vote goes to Williams. Being a rook, filling in for Bailey and doing that good of a job against the Colts 1st team Off. is damn good stuff. The guy was all over the place and covered his guy extremly well. And then of course throw in the sack I'd say he had an exceptional game.

Since I'm a hockey guy I'll go with the three stars of the night format.
3rd Star, Ashley Lelie: He was everywhere tonight. Short routes, intermediate routes, deep routes, you name it. If this is what we can expect from him, we'll see him headed back to Hawaii.....for the Pro Bowl.
2nd Star, Mike Anderson: He showed us all more than we thought he had, including the speed to break one 93 yards. He's earned the starting job.
1st Star, Darrent Williams: Am I dreaming? Did the Broncos finally scout and draft a CB who can play? He wasn't perfect, but he went up against as good a passing attack as he'll see and he was outstanding. Stride for stride with Harrison on the deep ball was great, sacking Manning was awesome, but the thing I really like about him is that he always seems to be around the ball. Making tackles, supporting the run, he just always seems to be in a position to make a play.

I just down't want to have to hear the boobs start chanting "VAN PELT! VAN PELT!" from the stands when Jake throws an Int. If anything should be learned from this preseason, its that BVP has years of learning to go before he is anywhere near Plummer's ability.

darrent williams. wow.
I love our rookies... they look ready made to have an impact this year. Thats exciting. Although they took some lumps last night, they have game experience and tape against the Colts which could be invaluable for these young guys down the stretch.
As for my favorite unit... its going to be the DLine... we are going to have so much depth and talent there this year. Pryce of course being the favorite but I really like G Warren and Engelberger... I can't wait to see Courtney Brown in action, hopefully next week! I see similar personalities and talent coming from our dline, very similar to the talent we had back in our super bowl days. Blue collar guys that play their ***** off when the whistle blows. I'm stoked about this year.
I'm not even that down about Peyton's day last night... this has been our nemesis. You really think we would show him our true arsenal?

Gerard Warren hands down. MA played great and Darrent played well for a Rookie, but Warren was everything the media did not make him out to be. He played Hard every Down, covered in Zone, chased down Screens, Chased down Sweeps, penetrated in a THREE MAN RUSH while being Triple teamed at one point.
BTW, he is a monster lead blocker in the red Zone to boot. Hey Champ, stay on Defense, Warren is going to get the double duty this year Bro!

They were coming after him too. I remember one of the guards was poking him in the eye and he came out and just had something put on it and went back in. Listen to his interview, he is really happy to be here and ready to contribute to the team.

I voted for Lelie. He was catching everything in the same zip code. The only misses were really bad throws. Or did I miss something? That catch off his knees on the dead run was sweeeeet. He showed excellent feet on the sideline route as Jake got him the ball late. Another great touchdown, blowing by the corner. His game was full on. He's only going to get more and open up more for Rod. Now, if only Watts would start lighting up...(just to relax).

I have to give it to the entire starting unit on all three sides of the ball, offense, defense, and special teams. They played great. I wish Todd would put just a little more hang time on his kicks. I'll take 2 yards less per punt if it adds another sec to second and a half to his hang times.

I won't single out anybody as special. It was a solid team effort. Different guys stepped up and made plays on every play. That is what is necessary to win the Div Title.
