That IMO isn't a drop. The ball would have short hopped his feet. He was bent over and he trapped the ball!

Does anyone remember the naked bootleg that BVP ran in the fourth? Adams (I think, birthday was long!! think I saw Adams number)was downfield fighting a CB and did't break off and go deep, it was WIDE OPEN instead he made a feeble attempt to block and BVP got like two yards off of it Shanny let him hear the business from the sideline. Remember when we had the best blocking WR's in the game? that is another thing I wish they could get back. Williams looked better than Roc did last year going against Harrison, a few rook blunders but they are going to happen so people beware from praising him then ripping him down the next week, He muffed a kick tonight had a pealnty and missed a few assignments, but played well during the others times.

There was a great downfield block thrown for Anderson on that long run. I didn't see who made it. I think it MIGHT of been Lelie, maybe Smith, maybe Alexander... not sure, but it opened his seam and Anderson steamed thru without being touched. Once he gets rumbling he's pretty fast. He really pushed himself on that run. He wanted it. I'm glad he didn't hurt his groin because we gave all. He wanted that TD. I was quite surprised he wasn't caught from behind. There were 5 chickens chasing him.

Watts had drop #7
That IMO isn't a drop. The ball would have short hopped his feet. He was bent over and he trapped the ball!
Believe it or not, I think both you guys are forgetting one drop . . . last week, for reasons unfathomable :dummy: - Shanny put Darius on the "hand's team" for the 49ers' onside kick . . . and WATTS DROPPED THE BALL! The 49ers nearly recovered, too.
And even one more - vs. Houston. BVP just missed completing a TD pass to Darius! Actually, Darius DID catch the ball that time ... but he clumsily planted his second foot on the sideline! It wouldn't have taken Baryshnikov to stay inbounds, either . . . like the announcers said - just drag your feet, knucklehead! I felt bad for BVP - just like I felt bad for BVP when Watts dropped the TD vs. SF, etc, etc, etc, It's a good thing Bradlee's not lacking for confidence. :strong:
WHAT are they gonna DO with this guy?!
BTW, Shanny really is cursed re: #3 WR's. In his 2nd or 3rd year, he drafted Marcus "Biggest.Bust.Ever" Nash in the first round for the #3 spot . . . then it was "steady Eddie Kennison" sailing through town . . . somebody else was lost in there . . . and NOW THIS?!
And that raises another concern about tonight's game: (I might've missed it), but I didn't see Todd Devoe, Charlie Adams or Triandos Luke out there much! Don't these guys need some time on the field, especially with Darius flaming out? And the GOAT looked positively S L O W . . .
Ive GOT it! Is Watts practice-squad eligible? :flush:

Nah, I was hoping the same thing...but he's played in 6 regular season games. ineligible. gotta keep Devoe and Adams though. I wish Rice would just go away. He's been invisible out there past 6 yds. :deadhorse

Maybe I'm thinking of a different play vs the Texans... but the one in the back of the endzone to Watts was a very tough play to make. He leaped and went up high for the pass... came down trying to get his feet in bounds (which he would not have) and didn't catch the ball anyway!
As for Shanny looking pissed about his drop last night... I think Shanny was equally upset that he wasn't thrown a "good" ball. True, NFL WR's should make plays on passes that are other than perfect, but this kid can't buy a break. I'm frustrated with him too, but he's not getting passes like Ash or Rod either. Let one bounce of his chest and I'll be all over him... a ball that he has to go up 3 feet for or a ball that he traps 2 feet in front of his feet.... well that's not going to get me upset at him. Ash may have made the play but I doubt it. Rod wouldn't have. Rice maybe... hard to get upset at him for that one last night!
In fact, of his 8 "drops" so far this preseason I know for a fact that 4 of them are debateable as to whether they were even catchable balls. 3 vs the Texans and 1 last night. I didn't watch the Niners game so I don't know how ugly those were.
2 above his head vs the Texans and by above his head I mean 3 feet high! Another early in the game vs the Texans were he had to dive/slide for the ball. That was the most makeable play of the bunch, but it would have taken a more than ordinary play to catch the ball. Yes he should have, but it wasn't a good throw either.

The one last night WAS a bad throw, and I don't blame him for not catching it. It was on the ground behind him. It also wouldn't have gotten the 1st down as it was 5 yds behind the marker.
Seems like he can't catch a break. Hope he straightens it out. For now it looks like we have to keep 6 WR. Other teams cuts may change that, as our O-line is a concern too.

Yeah, let's throw the second year kid under the bus! Uhh The same chuckleheads calling for Watts head were ragging on Lelie before he came around. Half of the balls thrown at Watts were very bad, but people are counting all the incompletions as his (Watts) fault. Watts has 5 receptions for 55 yards (and yes, there are a few more he should have caught, including a sliding catch in the end zone). Ash and Rod have 6 each. Jerry Rice has 2 for 14 yards. Watts runs terrific routes and looks open on just about every play. Guess I'm just not ready to throw him to the wolves.....

Someone should buy Watts some of those sticky gloves. Or he should resurrect the Lester Hayes stickum. Or maybe Shanny should just jam Adams or DeVoe in there and see what happens.
It would be nice to have four solid recievers, though.

Great post! I still say give him time.
Looking at those stats, one thing stands out and that's our third down ratio. We need to get WAY better on converting our third downs.
