The Offense was 2-10 on third down%. 1-5 in the redzone. However, 8.1 yards a carry kinda rocks ;D
D was 6-15 on 3rd down% and 2-3 in the Red zone. 4.0 yards a carry is not that bad either but was skewed by the safeties playing five yards deeper and only having six in the box most of the night.

This team is inconsistent.
and it's pissing me off that with the supposed speed we have, we got owned on outside running plays even if the Safety were playing deep.

They made the adjusments at halftime DB and after Peyton left. Believe me that was not the whole gameplan as I only counted five different plays in the first half.

see...the colts line holds, outside of what is considered normal. course...refs dont pay attention to that, they want to see what the all powerful manning will do.

Yea i wasnt exactly looking at the plays and trying remember what formations they were, but safeties played a lot of deep zone.
I didn't see alot of rotations which kinda surprised me cause the starting D line was gassing.
I don't know about you, but when they are at their freshest condition Ekuban really racked it up. He seemed the most pentrative one out there in the beginning.

I was impressed with the Colts Oline blocking on the sweeps. I saw no gaps at all. Of course, what it also means is they gave up on the middle and the off tackle. Wasn't going to happen. I sure do like the energy this D is playing with. Engleberger was especially impressive. It's like the guys are competing with each other, and having fun doing it. A lot of good effort, chemistry and attitude. They'll only get better.

I saw Warren cover downfield on one play, then chase down a screen play, then get tripple teamed and almost sack manning the next play. He really takes plays off doesn't he???

Who was 91?
Ebenezer Ekuban. The Neezer. I think we'll be seeing a lot of him in the rotation this year.
Riddle for you: what do opposing QBs say when they see the Bronco DEs coming for them?
EEP! (often accompanied by shaking knees, spreading wet spots on uniform pants, and instinctive ducking motions)
(Ekuban-Engleberger-Pryce)
And what do the Bronco DEs say when attacking the QBs?
BEEP, comin' thru! (Brown-Ekuban-Engleberger-Pryce)
OK, so the riddles were dumb... sue me! [lol]

When Brown gets in there this DLine is going to be sick... and I don't mean sick with an injury to Brown, I mean sick of talent! I know I'm a Brown homer but he IS the most talented DL we have on the team. Even more so than Trev or Gmoney!!! Injuries are the only thing that can stop him.
Remember when you were younger and decided to put that Hot Rod together. You drop a bunch of time and money in labor and parts. Get it out to the track and after one run your drop a trainy. Spent a few weeks-months fixing it back up and run it again. The next time you blow a head seal. More time fixing and it's frustrating b/c you know you've got an 11 second car on your hand it just doesn't hold up. This is Courtdawg since he's been in the NFL. A 620 HP motor ready to tear shiat up, just gotta get a couple runs down to "break" him in!

The Colts have a fine offense. Overall, I was pleased. The DL started hot, then dissapeared in the second quarter. Van Pelt didn't have a great game, but there were several bright spots. Warren, Engleberger both played well. Davis seemed to be disruptive. Darrent Williams made a few rookie mistakes, but he's very fast and explosive, and an incredible tackler. He has tremendous explosion, fluid hips and is a very impressive and willing tackler, very good fundamentals tackling.
Clarett looked close to crying on the sidelines. It's not just a questionable injury, Shanahan commented that basically, he's a lazy worker. Anderson had quite a few good runs in addition to his long one, where he finished the run very strongly. Once he gets up a head of steam, he still has good speed. I have changed my mind about trading him. Q also looked better than I expected. Gold had a good game. Saurkraut was getting nice kickoffs. Lynch looks like he may of lost another step. All three rookie corners got plenty of experience against a fine offense. Lelie looks like he's finally becoming a compete player. He adjusted well to that bomb, and fought for the ball. He looked really good. The line struggled and times and got pushed around too much. They didn't look as tight as usual either. DEVO seems to make one big play each week. This time, he caused a big fumble. Rice was very quiet, as was Rod Smith, I'm not concerned about getting Rod reps. Watts still seems confused out there. Another mediocre effort. Looked like there was some miscommunication at times. D. Williams seemed confused as to whether we were in zone or man to man at times, but had excelent coverage when he didn't get on the wrong page, and I cannot believe what a fearless hitter he is. Shanahan looked like he still has fire in his belly. Man, he ripped that ref a new one early. I liked how the team, which quite often comes out flat to start the 3rd quarter, regrouped and the DL appeared again. G. Warren looks like he's having fun, he showed good effort. Keep the big guy happy with some FB blocking at the goal line. I don't want that guy hitting me on a lead block. We will have to get at least a couple touches at the goal line. The Colts, with the exception of Manning, seemed a little disinterested. Tatum got alot less touches than I expected, as well as Dayne. There were some excellent downfield blocks on MA's big run. One CBS station had the Chef's game on, and is showing the Bronco game late, so I get to really study the tape tonight. Just started.

Yeah, sustained drives would have been uglier, and more preferred. We're not gonna get the big play everytime. Still, they (big plays) wer'e real pretty. MA just blew me (and the Colts) away tonight. Bell is the backup for sure as of now. Stay healthy Mike. Lelie is stepping up his game too.
BVP has a LONG way to go....he came down to Earth more tonight. Still, he impresses with his intensity and desire to win. It would be interesting to see what he does with the 1st string. Hope we don't HAVE to find out this year!
The run defense has been ugly on sweeps all three games. We're playing vanilla but they have got to start holding the line, and penetrate some or wer'e gonna get steamrolled by the Chefs and others. Hopefully we'll have the STARTING defense all together for the first 3-4 games.
Indy went after the rookies in the secondary tonight. I didn't see them do much of anything else, except the one play that Walls messed up, then got the strip to make up for it. Overall I liked what I saw. Foxworth seems to be the weakest in coverage. He relies too much on his speed to make up his overshooting the receiver. Paymah played pretty well. Dwill made a few mistakes {blown coverage} but he's the 5th db and an improvement over last year. Nice to have known you ROC
Dorsett Davis, Charlie Adams, Todd Devoe probably should have made the team tonight. Adams made a stupid mistake not calling Fair catch, then made up for it later. Davis was getting a lot of pressure on the QB. Devoe didn't do much, but then he didn't ,ake any mistakes.
D. Watts has got to get his head straight. As of right now, he wouldn't make the team based on performance. If he weren't a 2nd year 2nd round pick he would be gone. Maybe HE should go to the PS.
Overall it was nice to beat Indy , both the starters 27-17 and the scrubs 10-7. :woowoo:

Burns had a good night Pierce did not.
obviously Anderson was great. Jake was very efficient.
OK now can we dispense with the "Ashley can't run intermediate routes" crap.
Williams played very well even with a couple of mistakes. Walls was great except the one slip, then he made up for it. Foxworth and Paymah will be OK but have lots to learn.
Engleberger for Middlebrooks is a steal.
Warren is having fun and the opponents are going to pay for it. Trevor looks healthy.

Yeah, Pryce does look healthy. Walls is waaay too impressed with himself. Needs to settle down and play within the D.
Indy moved the chains well, but they paid for it by taking hard hits on their skill players. Those hard hits add up over 4 quarters. Solid tackling by Den. Gotta put the charlie-horses on every chance you get, and Den did that.

The good:
-Turnovers! We got turnovers, and against a good offensive team. That we capitalized on the opportunities is huge.
- Running attack that looked powerful. Mike made guys look silly, though it is the Colts.
- NO turnovers on offense.
- Preassure on the QB. Some of you have said that Peyton had a lot of time, and there were some plays where he did, but Engleberger had three sacks, pryce had one shared with someone, and the pocket collapsed. You're not going to get preasure every single play, and Manning is going to beat you because he is amazing.
-Darrent Williams. Knowing that he is going to go from covering Marvin Harrison and Andre Johnson effectively to some nickle backs has me very pleased. That sack on Manning was beautiful. The kid can play, and it looks like Shanny atoned for all the crappy corners drafted...at least right now.
-Special teams has improved every game. They looked like crap in the first game and went from suck to average in the second and now are looking great. Excellent coverage down field and two forced fumbles is amazing. That second fumble that the colts recovered resulted in something like an 80 yard punt for Todd. He's got to be loving that.
The Bad:
-Third down convertions were bad.
-It seems like we aways are destined to start a majority of our drives inside the ten. I'm so sick of that.
-Third downs allowed were bad.
- The run defense is a problem. It seems they just ran sweep plays and got whatever they wanted. I will say there were hardly any cutback lanes, but what does that matter if by finishing the run you get six yards a carry? Yes, its the Colts and yes its Edge, but its been bad threee games now.
- Our drives were stalled several times by the Colts defense. We were pretty Vanilla, but we need to show a little more consistancy, especially against a notoriously poor defense.
-Our line needs some help. I'm worried about their ability to hold on through the whole season. If we make the playoffs, we better do it with a bye so that everyone can rest up.
-I was dissatisfied with Todd on kickoff duty. We had maybe one touchback and in Dener that's not great.
Overall:
I'd say its preseason, and a great start but we have some hills to climb before we look "elite" on either side of the ball. "Pretty good" won't do.

Good post there. With the exception of the one late TD pass to Jeb, The TE play was invisible. With our lack of depth at WR, I think the TE's are going to have to male some plays and I'm sure they will. It just wasn't there much tonight. The Depth at WR concerns me. We need to get the TE's involved on 3rd down.

That was a great call. Jeb was so alone out there he looked homesick. We'll feature our two-TE attack quite a bit this year when it matters. We looked very "blah" in terms of playcalling (expected) and still executed when we needed to.

SoCal's Thoughts:
-Jake Plummer looked very, very solid. Very few mistakes. Good decision making and no forcing throws. Made plays to evade pressure as well.
- MA looks very much like how RD looked the first 2/3 of the season. Jackhammer and showed a speed burst that I didnt think he had.
- I thought the OL was decent for the most part.
- Big Money and Big Trev. Gerard looks to be an absolute steal. When he wasnt making plays in the backfield (or at FB) you could just see him on the sideline smiling. Trevor had the game that I was waiting for him to have.
- Darrent Williams. This kid is really developing fast. Props to Ozo. While the sack is a nice highlight reel shot, I really was impressed when Marvin took him deep and the kid stuck on him stride for stride. He had some mental errors but thats okay. Very nice tackler as well.
- John Engleberger- Non stop motor, pure hustle guy. He seems to be the perfect Coyer type player. Sacks in 3 games in a row now.
- Ashley Lelie- Very nice outing. Totally smoked Jason David on the deep touchdown, beat him by several steps. Nice comeback route and slant route where he had some good YAC. Ash is continuing to improve his game and is probably our best wide reciever right now.
- Keith Burns- Burnsie made a bunch of plays against the no. 2s. Looks like very good depth in addition to good ST play. Watch your back, Jashon, might not be room for you.
- Predator- good pressure on Manning and I noticed him a few times on other plays.
- Sauerbrun- Did a good job tonight with a good average.
- Wilson: Didnt notice him at all tonight.
- Foxworth- Got beat a few times but he also made some plays and looked close to making a few others. He had good technique. Got hosed on one PI call. I like this kid.
- LeSueur- showed me nothing.
- Sam Brandon- Im glad to see he is looking more like the 2002 version than the 03 and 04 version. Maybe we gave up a bit early on this kid. With his poor prior two seasons and the off the field incidents, Sam seems to be playing balls to the wall because he knows his back is to the wall.
- DeVoe- Made a nice play stripping the ballcarrier on kickoff coverage and also had another play that stood out, the specifics of which I am forgetting. But there are little things he does here and there based purely on effort which makes a difference. He has already defeated Luke, now his final test will be to defeat Adams to earn a spot.
- Gold- Good pursuit tonight, made some good plays out there. He did whiff on a few tackles pretty badly. Overall, he was above average tonight.
- Michael Myers- Got some good push in there and did a good job of reading what was going on around the line to find the ballcarrier.
- D.J. Williams- I think the Colts did a good job of scheming him out on the plays where they went 3 and 4 wide, they widened the split between the WR and the line to take him out of the box and that hurt his effectiveness in the run game. I only saw the guy he was covering make a play on him once in the pass game and DJ had 4 tackles in the first half, a couple of them were nice stuffs at the line vs. the run.
- General DLine Pass Rush- I dont fault them too much for really falling off in the 2nd quarter. I dont think it was ineffectiveness so much as they were tired. In the first quarter we clearly saw they were effective but they were on the field for 2/3 of the time and their legs prolly started to give way a little there.
- Q- Showed me nothing.
- Pierce looks bad in space. Its no surprise ofcourse but he doesnt adjust quickly and just doesnt look like anything special even against 2s.
- Putzier- They really got to throw him the ball more. He is really underutilized but he is a talented player. Alexander is a better blocker but Putz needs to see the ball more...much more.
-Rice- showed me nothing.
- BVP- Similar to SF in that he started out Rocky and was erratic and somewhat inaccurate but he got better as it went along. Certainly nothing to make me feel he could come in and be a steady steward of the ship although he is certainly better than Danny and does seem to have some playmaking ability. Still raw though.

Considering this was a superb offense, I'm very happy with how they played, especially since they still aren't putting in much in the way of wrinkles. The best part of tonight was our 3 rookie DB's facing live fire from Manning & Co. and on balance, they came through very well against some very good WR's and D Williams is going to be a stud CB. I'm becoming a believer than he could challenge Walls by the end of the season.
This won't make anyone's highlight reel, but one of the most encouraging things I saw tonight was the back of the end zone camera angle of Plummer rolling left looking for a WR and he had somebody open a little about 10 yards upfield, but didn't throw it, rolling out of bounds instead. I thought at the time that maybe the play of the night was the one Jake DIDN'T make...
The O-Line was inconsistent protecting Plummer and I couldn't see everyone in there other than Cornell Green but it looked like BVP was behind the 2nd unit, who also didn't give him enough time. I think there's room for improvement in the LB's and Brandon came up big. Devoe and Adams are locks and Rice...didn't have a catch once again. Watts will pull out of his funk sooner or later...the fingertip "drop" was hardly his fault.
Keith Burns in #51 looked like Butkus on that smack down he laid on the WR...what's got into him? Sauerbrun looked good on his punts, but I thought his KO's needed some more hang time...line drive on a couple of those. Ernster needs a big night next week.
Warren was good pushing the pocket...I couldn't believe the guy was downfield playing the "spy", tracking a screen etc...gotta believe that was something to the rest of the NFL something to wonder about. Pryce got good pressure and so did Davis and Meyers inside and Engleberger off the edge was excellent. I saw him beat the back to the edge twice on sweeps...high octane guy.
As far as I've heard...no injuries. That's the best thing.

I thought going into the game that with both teams running Vanilla packages Indy would have the advantage, just because Shanny is one of the best at finding mismatches. I really think that the D's woes were from TOP and they looked great in the 1st and 3rd Qrts.
Overall this was an A- effort for the boys, saw much improvement over last weeks performance.
