Little more fine-tuning needs to be done. Miami oughtta be good for the finishing touches. Haha, j/k. Can't relax in the opener.
I didn't like having the TO's burned before the last drive of the first half. I still think the O-plays don't get to the huddle fast enough.

all that matters to me is the 27-17 lead we had before both starting groups sat down. its means that we were doing some good things and in the game for once.
Yep, inspite of some rough spots we won the 1st team game and the scrubs game too. Not bad and a good chance for the young DBs to make some mistakes and learn a hell of a lot.
MA was a beast and Lelie looked really good playing a more well rounded game/

Darrent Williams looked amazing. Besides that blown coverage He locked down Harrison. DeeDubya is pushing for starting spot imo.
Walls played good to, Nice hussle after he got beat and forced the turnover.
Gerard Warren, Trevor Pryce, and John Engleberger all looked awesome tonight, John has a motor, thats for sure.
I'm a Tatum Bell fan, but Mike Anderson locked up the job, Not saying Bell could take it, but Anderson looked amazing.
Ashley Lelie's catch was awesome, He's coming on strong this year.

Aside from the big plays, no real consistency.
meh, that wont matter much as long as the defense continues to play well. the biggest key for our offense is not to turn the ball over. i can handle punting but the turnovers have to go away.

here are some of my observations:
Our defense did a decent job overall but we were horribly exposed on sweeps. Sweep right, sweep left, dink pass. Wash and repeat over and over. It was due to a combination of lack of corner support, pushing up the field and turning it back inside and the DE's not holding their ground. We need to rectify that or KC is going to run us to death. I was impressed yet again with Darrent Williams...the guy can play. He's a rookie so he is going to make mistakes (see Harrison TD) but he is going to be a steal. Nice to get some TO's. The pressure on Manning was not what I expected unfortunately and only had a hand full of incidents in which he was pressured....I didn't like that.
Offensively MA and Lelie had a hell of a game. The three consecutive three and outs were a bit worrisom especially since we needed to give our D some time to rest after three long drives and we didn't. We didn't have a very ball controlled offense and our defense would have been ragged by the fourth I'm afraid. We need to work on that.
ST's were good although I'm still not impressed with Saurebrun's punting or Kickoffs.

Williams will not take Walls spot this year...maybe next year but not this year. We will use him to cover the slot in nickel situations but he won't be the #2 corner unless somebody gets injured.
He has the talent but he needs more experience and still makes the rookie mistakes (see harrison TD).

The defense only ran variations of FIVE plays in the first half. The safety's were five yards deeper than Normal. They spread the field and we were NOT aggresive at all from the LB position. Pretty Vanilla and basic. They made big time adjustments in the second half and caught Peyton Napping on a CB blitz.
Not what I wanted, but better than it could have been.

Very bland gameplan on both sides of the ball. I was very impressed with the solid tackling. The first man making contact usually had the guy wrapped up and there were closers on every play.
Indy sure did move the chains, but that does tend to happen with Indy. But solid tackling, and pretty good hits on most plays. That takes a toll over the course of a game.
Overall, the team looks about 5-8% better than last year, and that's ok. Gonna have to step it up, though. That's a fast D. Very fast D. Great closing speed.

what, getting almost every kick to the end zone and having a punt aveage of over 50 yards isn't good enough ??? i'd say he did very well, i mean, look at the stats:

I didn't think he averaged that much. His kickoffs were reaching the goal line...but they didn't seem to have the hang time of the colts kicker.

What you're looking for is a way to eliminate a roster spot for a KO specialist. Even if the KO's are line drives that get into the end zone, you can eliminate the KO specialist.

Yeah it made Pitsburg's Defensive Backfield (and LBs) Look really SLOW. I thought they looked slow the other night, Now I know they looked slow, But I guess we're all Spoiled. Imagine when our next wave of Safeties Come of Age, We are going to have a wickedly fast D!!
Great game. It was soooo nice to see them in Action. The game had all the Highs and Lows of a regular season game. I had a blast. I'm glad I finally got to see a Football game!!

Colts were playing with alot of spread formations and that took him out of the box against the run. Still had 4 tackles in the first half but those 3 and 4 WR formations always had him outside the box while Al and Ian stayed inside the box. He did have trouble getting off the blocks though. Med, you promised me he wasnt going to be doing the dirty work and taking on guys but they had a man in his face all night.

1. It's too bad I didn't see this game.
2. I told you so (too many. too annoying.)
3. 6 sacks for 38 yards. Sacks slow you down. Turnovers change games.
4. Revenge is only real when you use live rounds.
5. Colts are weak. Slap Peyton in the mouth until his bottom lip quivers.
6. Broncos: 8-86 on penalties - Too smart to be this stupid. How many on the OL BTW?
7. 2-10 on third down conversions (Insert deserved rant here)
8. Our punter is really good. 5-50.4 - Red Zone Elam rocks!
9. Special teams: 6-159 for the Colts? 189 on return yards? WTF!
Questions:
How did the LB's look? For all the chatter about Ian Gold I am hearing very little on the board good or bad. I didn't hear many LB's names called. Wilson?
Did our TE even play?
How did Charlie Adams look?
Dayne seems to be making the team and Clarett is heading to the woodshed. I doubt they give him any playing time other than to show how bad he really looks. I would not be surprised if he gets cut the first day. Why wait?
Was Q that bad?
Sam Brandon steps up? How did our safeties look? Is anybody getting the hint that a ball hawking safety would be a key player?
Reverend? Blessed be the number 38 for he is wroth upon our enemies.

I'm a little confused as well. Saurbraun kickoffs are not floaters, but they aren't line drives. Man, it beats Elam kicking to the 15. In the old days, teams kicked off from the 40. Now they have a freaking kicking ball that's hard as a rock and has less rebound. His punts looked like they occasionally were a little low, but he really nailed one of them nicely with great hang time. He's a major improvement.
We also seemed to get alot of pressure on Indy's punter. We should of gotten 2 blocks and somehow missed them. Decent pressure on quite a few kicks.

Seems to me that Saurbrun outkicked the coverage on several occasions. Still I thought his kickoffs and punts were an improvement from Micah

Sorry I missed the start of this thread. I wanted to say it was a great run by Mike Anderson, with some great blocking including a key one by Putz. My knock on Mike's speed played no consequence in a beautiful run. So, needless to say, Im here to say I was wrong and let everyone I argued with rub it in. I'll take it like a champ.
PS. All the Gold hates need to get in here too and accept that he played a great game too.

Gold denigrater here, reporting as ordered. Gold had his moments last night, and he had some good moments.
I'm not going to pick on him a whole lot over last nights performance. Overall, the LB blitzers did a good job of not letting the RB stuff them dead, they fought through better than I've seen in the past. Gold had some good plays where he made initial contact in the backfield, or at the LOS.
So I'm looking for a lot more from the team as a whole, players, coaches, everybody. The team should be pleased with their performance last night and today, and be ready to go through the honing and fine-tuning come tomorrow.
These are the Broncos, not some flash in the pan, maybe we'll have six Afc Championships one day type of team. Any year you don't win a title of some kind and at least one playoff game is a wasted year in Broncoland.
