Wish injury on nobody but if one has to happen it might as well happen to a division rival. ;D

Merriman also skipped San Diego's offseason workouts on the advice of his agent, Kevin Poston, to avoid getting hurt before signing his contract.

I hate to see anybody go down to injury, but until she proves something, Shawna will always be referred to as Merriwoman by me.

Gabriel is also out for several weeks for the Raiders. Fractured finger.
Someone on the ESPN board is posting that Merriman is out for the season. Says it was reported on NFL Network. Thing is though NFL network is showing the SF-Tenn game and I doubt they would have had time to determine a torn ACL.

The correlation between those that miss time and early rookie season injury is uncanny. That is why as a GM my offers would definitely decrease each week of a holdout.

They can do sideline tests that give them a pretty good idea if anything has been torn. When TD blew out his knee Shanahan told the sideline reporter within a couple minutes that they were pretty sure he'd torn his ACL.

****ing Griese!! Don't blame the OL for trying to make a tackle when the QB threw into triple coverage.

You know the more I thought about that, the more true it seems to have been lately. Kellen Winslow Jr., even our own Tatum Bell. Ironic and unfortunate, especially considering the kid missed practice to avoid injury.

Seems like holdouts always get hurt.

I think conditioning is a tiny part of it but I think the biggest part is indecisiveness due to a lack of comfort with the schemes and plays that has them dancing around and much more vulnerable. If you know where you are going and heading there with force you are a lot less likely to be the one getting hurt.

Great Point I never thought about scheme part before just conditioning.

Not to rain on the parade, but early diagnosis is coming back as a bruised knee. He was held out as a precaution. Carry on.

Until there's an MRI that's the usual response from the team. Don't get me wrong, I don't wish injuries on anybody. I hope he's ok.

Chargers' top pick Merriman hurts left knee
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- San Diego rookie outside linebacker Shawne Merriman left Friday night's preseason game at Minnesota in the first quarter with a sprained left knee, but he said it wasn't serious.
Merriman, the 12th overall choice in the draft out of Maryland, is challenging Ben Leber for a starting spot. After holding out the first week of training camp while his contract was negotiated, Merriman missed the Chargers' first exhibition game. In his debut last Sunday against St. Louis, he had three tackles.
The injury occurred on the opening kickoff.
"I got tripped up and got my knee driven straight into the ground," Merriman said. "I'm feeling pretty good now. They just didn't want to risk it. I actually asked to go out in the second half and play."
Merriman also skipped San Diego's offseason workouts on the advice of his agent, Kevin Poston, to avoid getting hurt before signing his contract.
