Here is a "Hey" from the "F'n Hillibillies" in OK!

Calahan is such a douche bag for that comment. He's lucky Stoops put in the B team or it would have been 60-3.

I like Neb fans... your coach is a Flippin' idiot though.

HAHAHA that'd be classic!!

I respect the OU organization, we may be rivals, but I think there is mutual repsect their. As a matter of fact, I think it's that way between all the teams that made up the old Big 8.

So you could put this to good use .....(From Redclad Loon.com)

"Your whole pathetic life is leading up to this. So why not push up daisies in style? Because you'd have to be completely obsessed over a bunch of college jocks to ask to be buried in one of these, that's why. So, naturally, it stands to reason that of all the college-themed caskets that this manufacturer churns out, Husker caskets lead the country in sales. Funeral home directors have sold quite a few of them by telling people that whoever is buried in one comes back as a friendly ghost on Saturdays to help the Huskers make tackles, catch passes and kick field goals. Screw the County Scholarships, here's Nebraska's real secret weapon."

Oh the lets bring out old history smack. I love that. Nothing reeks of desperation more than swinging our e-dicks trying to outdo each other with old stats fellas...Let's see, of the recent history, which school has won more games vs each other in the past few years? Uh huh...
As far as I'm concerned, old history means jack and you are only as strong as your previous year. Anyone can speculate this early how good or bad a team will be and seem a genius at this stage. I say, bring it to the field and then we'll see just how good we all are, otherwise, we all run the risk of turning this into a meaninless flamewar over former glory.

Oh come off it. We are going through a MAJOR overhaul of our team and people think there won't be bumps in the road? Please. We had option players running a WCO and you think that we wouldn't have problems? Ha! Our core is getting in place faster then CU fans want to addmit, which is fine because soon enough we will be right back on top where we always are. If they keep recruiting the way they have been we should make a run in two years for the NC.

Never say never in my mind. Look at Oklahoma in the 90's. Even the best and most historically good teams tend to go through a few bumps in the road. Lets just say for example, under the worst case scenario... that Beau Bridges errrrr Callahan gets the axe after this season if you guys go through an off season.
What would that do to the short-term prospects of your school? You gotta realize that even with sheer talent, that is going to kill off much of the momentum that you guys have gained in the offseason and it could lead to a very down class or two coming in. Granted, this is the doomsday scenario in Nebraska, but then again, how long will the AD there accept losing before Callahan gets the axe? One season? Two? Its going to be a very critical year for Nebraska and it could be ugly if they struggle.

Our AD understands this to be a challenge. I'm thinking if he doesn't do well after 3 or 4 years he is gone. They will let his recruits play and see what they can do. Its hard to blame a coach when the guy before you left you with 0 talent and 0 depth at key positions. Regardless I don't think this team will stay down long. He's brought in too many good players for that to happen.

I don't hate him he just couldn't recruit players. He could coach though. He got alot out of players thats what he was good at. Still he left the school and we had like 4 DT's last year. Tell me how a D can last with just 4 damn DT's all year. I wish him well at his new college and everything but we are going to be ok with our guy now.

I just hope that Nebraska can survive that BRUTAL schedule this year, I mean a Division 1AA school in Maine, Wake Forest who just lost to Vanderbilt, Pittsburgh who is a middle of the pack Big East team...wow way to challenge yourselves this year.

I hope one day that Ohio State will grow a pair of balls and schedule teams of that calibur, we may lose a couple then.

A Colorado family of football supporters head out one Saturday to do
their Christmas shopping. While in the sports shop the son picks up a Nebraska jersey and says to his older sister, "I've decided to become a Husker fan and I would like this for Christmas".

His big sister is outraged by this and promptly whacks him round the head
and says, "Go talk to mother".

Off goes the little lad with the Nebraska jersey in hand and finds his mother. "Mom?"

"Yes son?"

"I've decided I'm going to be a Nebraska fan and I would like this
Jersey for Christmas".

The mother is outraged at this, promptly whacks him around the head and
says, "Go talk to your father!"

Off he goes with the Nebraska Jersey in hand and finds his father.
"Dad?"

"Yes son?"

"I've decided I'm going to be a Nebraska fan and I would like this jersey for Christmas".

The father is outraged and promptly whacks his son around the head and
says, "No son of mine is ever going to be seen in THAT!"

About half an hour later they're all back in the car and heading towards home. The father turns to his son and says "Son, I hope you've learned something today?"

The son says, "Yes, Dad, I have."

"Good son, what is it?"

To which the son replies, "I've only been a Nebraska fan for an hour and I already hate you Colorado bastards*."

A gimme and a joke schedule is a different thing, Ohio State over Miami(OH) is a gimme for OSU, but Miami(OH) would beat Maine and Wake by 40 points.

Plus, you're in the Big 12 north, giving you guys what should be 3 or 4 more gimme's this year.

But hell, when you go 5-6 and see your once proud prestigous football program go down the drains, guess you gotta do something for some wins.

Blah blah blah. NU has had one system for 100 years. Now they are changing it. Lets say you are the AD at NU and you are making the switch to the WCO O would you schedule tougher teams on the road? Lets be real even though NU is down Do you think teams like FSU, Miami, and Florida will travel to NU in the winter months? Please its not happening. This isn't a BCS team so why the **** would they make a schedule that would rank them in the top 5 of the nation? It took us going to USC in 07 for them to make the trip to Lincoln in 08. Samething with Penn state and ND. We had to go there first. We do have 3 top 25 teams on our schedule and you never know if Colorado or KState will crack the top 25 as well. The better the team gets then they will start scheduling harder teams. It just wasn't going to be this year.

I don't care what you seem to think about my team anyways. Once Ohio State is out of the race you will go to one of your other 15 college teams you root for. I can't wait for Texas to stomp Ohio!

For not caring what I think about your ****ty ass team, you seem to get quite worked up about it. I find it hilarious that you try and use the "other college team" smack, because I guarantee that I'm a bigger Buckeyes fan that you are a Nebraska Cornhuskers fan. As for Texas stomping us, nice try and wishful thinking, but it's not going to happen, and I'll be sure to remember you saying this after it occurs as well.

Your schedule sucks, as much as you can try to justify why they scheduled the teams they did, the schedule still sucks. Maine isn't even a D-1 team, Wake Forest just got beat by a D-1 doormat in Vanderbilt, a 7 win season is hardly something to be proud of based on the NU schedule.

So how do you plan on proving that you are a bigger fan then me? Are we going to take a quiz? Please. Now I got a bet for you DenFan. Simple little bet. We each put in 20 bucks and the first team to win the NC wins the money. Each year each team doesn't win we put in 5 buck till one team wins. Let me get this straight...

the bet is 20 bucks this year between Ohio State and Nebraska to win the National Championship, if neither team does then the next year it becomes a 25 dollar bet, then the following year a 30 dollar bet if no team wins the NC the previous year.

I'm really confident that I'll be getting 20 bucks at the end of this year, but what I'm even more confident about is that we'll win a National Title before Nebraska does no matter how long it takes.

So I accept, Ohio State vs. Nebraska in the race for the National title.

Yep its a bet. I don't think Ohio State makes it through that schedule this year but if they do more power to them. I would rather they win sooner then later :). I think NU has a good chance of making its move next year. We get Colorado and Texas at home and we get USC on the road without Lienart and Bush in the second game of the year.

Montana State qb punts aswell. MSU was a decent team. But if you're the Cowboys you have to put up more yards and points then they did. Both state schools (my state anyways), are trying out this 2 qb system trying to find a starter. It's going to hurt them in the long run.

On another note, I watched the younger brother of the Nebraska Qb play a HS game the other night. He plays for Norman, has a tremedous arm.

I didn't know he punted the ball as well. I should go watch the Griz or the Bearcats play sometime. For smaller schools they always have good teams.

Is it Taylors brother? From what I was told Taylor has a pretty good arm as well with some zip on it to. How old is his younger brother?

It's the Bobcats, not Bearcats. They are two pretty good teams, I spent a lot of my time last year in Missoula watching the Griz and now I live here in Bozeman, home of the Bobcats. They are pretty jacked here about the performance over the weekend. Hopefully it will be a great year for Montana Football. Oh, and not to mention, the three-peat NAIA champs are from about 60 miles north in Helena, Carroll College Fighting Saints.

I think he's a junior. I'll see if I can find the story from the game from the Daily Jokelahoman and post it up here. I think he tossed for over 300 yards. And in Oklahoma high school football that's alot.

Edit: The original story isn't up anymore. He had 275 yards and 3 touchdowns. I'll try and follow him the next few weeks and see what he does.

I have no idea, he was supposed to be the second coming of Turner Gill, but apparently looked like $hit. Check out this article, at least the D pulled their heads out of their arses this weekend.

Methinks someone fell off his high horse and may not be able to accept the sea of purple swarming their running game yet ROFL!

I'm sure the rust coming off the team for this first game will be no indication of the future for the offense, and especially at QB. My next thought was, how did the revamped offense look? Did the playcalling look more crisp? I know that was a real troublespot for you all last year. By the way, who is on the rest of your non-conference schedule?

While we looked pretty lackluster most the game, I can see us making some improvement over the next couple weeks. Truth be told, if we can get to the level of being just decent then we'll win at least 7 games. Our schedule is freakin easy. Only four road games, 2 of which should be easy wins (KU, Baylor) and the other two very winnable (Mizzou, Buffs). The only really good teams we play at home are Pitt (who got doubled up by ND), Texas Tech, and Oklahoma (which suddenly looks like a very winnable game).

Sure this is analysis after one week, but I'm not about to panic about our performance against Maine.

I got all the information about the game secondhand since I was on the road on Saturday. But looking at the drives charts for the game, it seems like the hopes of spreading the offense worked to an extent for Nebraska. But, I'm still in the dark to the actual performance live.

I was at the game on Saturday.... my observations.

First of all the weather was horrible. It was 96 degrees at kickoff and as humid of a day as I can remember... not that that had an influence on the game but it did on me after pounding several Budweisers before the game. I also noticed a lot of cramps..... for both teams.

The Special Teams looked good. NU was near the bottom last year in yards per return, but you could tell they had spent a lot of time working on it and they almost took one to the house. Cogdon looked very good for a freshman K starting his first game. The only black spot on this squad was the missed extra point. GRADE: B+

The Offense reminded me somewhat of Denvers last year. The moved the ball well but seemed to self destruct in the red zone. Cory Ross ran tentitivly and never seemed to get his rhythm. Taylor did some good things, but looked indecisive in the pocket at times. The recieving core had several drops some of which were very costly. The two bright spots were Taylors touch on the deep ball and Marlon Lucky, who always seemed to fall forward for positive yardage. GRADE: D+

The Defense looked dominant throughout the game. The D-line has some horses up front. That is the deepest, most talented part of the team. The LBs looked good especially Corey McKeon who looks like a faster version of Barrett Rudd. The secondary was solid, but lacks depth. The lone Maine TD came on a play when both starting CBs were out of the game with cramps.... if they lose one or two of the top 3 CBs that secondary will be swiss cheese. GRADE: A-

Just a quick question though, isn't the schedule a part of a football discussion, or is it not that big of a deal in college? I mean, it only determines who plays who, who really needs that in a football discussion?

A) Fumbled on a punt return
B) Allowed a punt block

We go back too far to get in more of a pissing contest on this.....

Nobody will argue that Nebraska has a weak schedule this year. Pittsburgh was a top 15 team when the series with them was set up. Since 2000 Nebraska has played Pittsburgh, Penn St., Notre Dame, TCU, Southern Miss and Arizona St....... not necessarilly top 10 teams, but most are traditionally strong. Nebraska also has a series starting next season with USC.

My only beef was you bringing it up there schedule repeatedly when it really had nothing at all to do with the discussion at hand. We read what you had to say the first time....... and the second..... by the third time it was rediculous IMO.

As a Chief fan, can I assume that the same philosophy applies when you trot out your 2 SB trophys won 8-7 years ago? And in the same vein as Nebraska winning national championships in 94-95-97. ;D

Rude, I got the pay per view of the game last Saturday. I thought the most dissapointing aspect of the game was the offensive line. I don't know where their heads were at? They just looked like they were going thru the motions. And damn near got Taylor killed a couple of plays. I thought Taylor actually played pretty well for his first game. Especially well in the 1st half where he was 12/15 and 150 yrds or so. It looked like he started to freelance somewhat the 2nd half. Because on replays they showed receivers that were open that he didn't see. Some of it caused because Maine constantly was blitzing every down. The offensive line couldn't f**king block anyone, run or pass because they weren't mentally prepared to play. They went in with a preseason attitude. Which hopefully got the sh!t kicked out of them at practice this week. But back to Taylor. Plus the fact he had about 6-7 balls that were prefectly thrown and were flat out dropped by the receivers. To be fair Leflore and Fluellen weren't playing. Nunn shouldn't drop any like that. Hardy played with him last yr in JC. The Blackshirts were nothing short of awesome. Granted it was Maine but Maine couldn't do jack all day(145 total yrds). Plus 12 sacks. I don't care who you are, or play, 12 sacks is pretty impressive!!. It was sad to see Octavian go down. He looked like a beast. But at least he'll be back for 2 more years. I'm sure he's going to medical hardship this year. I don't know what was up with the run game or lack thereof. It was sad to watch. Which brings us back to the main cause of Nebraska's unimpressive showing. Nebraska's Oline. Callahan better light a bonfire under their collective asses this week.
Bottom line Nebraska beats Wake Forrest this week by 21.
Blackshirts continue to be impressive. Top 10 defense this year.

MP, I think they will be a Top 10 D this year. Last year was a abberation. Cosgrove totally whacked them out of synch with a new defense. The Blackshirts were a Top 10 D in 03 and they had most everyone back from that defense last year. There's no other way to explain their collapse-sp last year. Most of the malcontents who didn't buy into the new way of doing things were booted or left the team after last season. They shouldn't have been as bad as they were... yet they were. Wake Forrest has a good running game. I believe 11 th in the nation last year. William Andrews(Pro Bowl RB with the Falcons in the late 70's early 80's) kid Micah ran for 254 yrds last week. And he's not even their starting RB. Their #1 guy was suspended last week but will play tomorrow. If we can hold them under 140 total yrds on the ground the Blackshirts will of had a good day. Good barometer for them tomorrow.
We'll see. Tune in to TBS tomorrow night and have a look see.

The offense was pretty weak, but so many of our players are new. You could see as the game went on they started to improve. I think around mid season they'll hit full stride and we should do ok.

Our defense looked really good though, they are gonna have to shoulder alot of the load this season to keep us in the game against tougher teams.

Seeing as K-state should have lost to Marshall, I wouldn't be worrying too much about nebraska if I were you. Take away two fumbles and one of the stupidest play calls in NCAA history and Marshall would have beaten you for the second time in three years.

I would have to agree that our D has yet to be really tested and that our O is struggling, but I think they are making progress. Seeing how Palko played against Ohio, I would expect a few more picks for our defense this week. Iowa State and Texas Tech could be tough.

Seeing as K-state should have lost to Marshall, I wouldn't be worrying too much about nebraska if I were you. Take away two fumbles and one of the stupidest play calls in NCAA history and Marshall would have beaten you for the second time in three years.

Irrelevant, glory hunter. At least we had the chutzpah to play on the road. 5 games in a row at home. Unbelievable.

The defense has yet to face a competent offense.

The offense has yet to face a competent defense, and they have struggled.

ONLY TWO offensive touchdowns in 2 games? Wow.

Even against a competent offense, I would bet they are at least formidable.

We are improving every game, especially our young players.

Man Weds Pregnant 14-Year-Old, Is Charged With Rape

Sept. 13, 2005 -- In May, Matthew Koso married his girlfriend, Crystal, who was pregnant with their child. But the new father and husband may soon be separated from his family and sent to prison. His crime? Koso is 22; Crystal is 14.

Koso is charged with first-degree sexual assault in his home state of Nebraska and faces up to 50 years in prison if convicted. The couple married in Kansas, where the wedding was legal, with their parents' blessing.

The defense looks good enought to keep Nebraska in most games, but the offense is just painful to watch. I thought they ran better at points, but I have yet to see the offense sustain two good drives in the same game.

Hopefully the bye week will allow them to make some improvements. This offense isn't going to be good, but I hope it can progess to being passable. Iowa State is going to be a tough opponent for NU.

I don't think it's the scheme...I think it has to do with so many inexperienced players on our team.

No game will be a given with our offense, not even Baylor, but we should win a few more games based on our defense and the general suckiness of the Big XII. I think we should scale back some of the offense complexities in terms of shifting our sets every play. We need to just get to the point of executing a basic offense. We don't have Gannon, Rice, Porter, and Brown out there.

Both ARE great recruiters, anyone can bring in talent with sex/rape parties it takes real talent to go out and work for it. As far as well one guy is a ****ty coach in the NFL doesn't mean he is a bad coach in college, that goes both ways. The "old ball coach" didn't do so well in the NFL now did he? I would say he was flat out ****ty, but that doesn't make him a bad college coach does it? There are so many different things here. In the NFL you can't recruit talent you have to sign and keep people under the cap. Not easy to do. While in college there is pretty much no limit to how much talent you can bring.

Classiest fans my ass. Was LP or Dr. Tom brought up in this thread? Get over yourself. Are you confident in Callahan? Or do you see him loading the cupboards for the next coach, ala Blake for Stoops?

Have a discussion about the state of NU football, not throwing out some bull**** tired ass smack about CU that is not relevant at all.

I am trying to get a feel from NU fans and most have answered that they are catiously optimistic, or are leary of Callahan. You fly off the handle start blasting CU. Nice dodge.

Touchy one you are DB. :spit:

Ive talked NU football to the NU fans thats what the thread is about. I could care less what you think of NU. Everything I have said in this thread has stated that I DO HAVE CONFIDENTS IN MY TEAM. I wouldn't make that bet if I didn't think so. Why do I have to keep repeating myself in each post to make you happy. If I say the team is going to do well in post 15 then why do I have to bring it up again in 115? We always go round and round about this. Samething with Saul. Saul brought up how NU fans/Broncos fans shouldn't be giving Callahan praise because he bashed him as a Oakland coach. I pointed out that the NFL is not the same as coaching college. I don't remember saying anything about CU directly. I did bring up recruiting by having sex parties. I'm sure other schools besides CU use girls to get players to come to that school Pain, but then again everything is about CU even this thread.

No doubt we need to get things fixed fast for the up coming two games. I hope that Chris Brooks can get some reps and play some in these games. Hes a freshman but Ive heard he was a very good WR before he hurt his knee. We need to play better and find someone besides Cory Ross to make plays on O. I hope they can fix the O some during the bye week or we are in for a long season. I don't see our D holding up if they are on the field all day.

NU is in the running for David Ausberry and Chris Bell the 3rd and 5th best WRs in the Nation according to rivials. Landing one of them would do our O wonders IMO. We don't have a WR that teams will fear right now. Josh Freeman the 7th best QB in the nation is a solid commit for us right now as well. That boy is huge. 6'6" 240 pounds. Our coaching staff is doing a great job of getting talent now they have to get that talent to carry over to the field. In a lot of ways its like the Broncos. We got the talent now lets see it on the field. Right now I still think NU is atleast a year away from seeing it on the field. This year we are just getting our younger players on the field and seeing what they can do for us in the future. The players on the D look great its the guys that are on the other side of the ball that need the work. Also the top three TE's in the nation have intrest in us as well. He really could use one of them as well. Lossing Matt was a huge blow to Callahan. Im hoping that the AD doesn't get jumpy and can Cally before we get to see what his top kids can do. I think we owe it too him to ride this out, and if he does get canned they should take our AD with him. I really don't like that guy.

Word is that they are putting in several plays during the bye week to get him in as a slot reciever. Meanwhile fellow-freshman RB Cody Glenn will be getting more touches at RB. I like this Glenn kid.... he is a bruiser.

Husker receiver Brooks regaining focus
BY BRIAN ROSENTHAL / Lincoln Journal Star
Saturday, Sep 24, 2005 - 01:29:04 am CDT

Freshman wide receiver Chris Brooks missed time this fall after undergoing minor knee surgery. (William Lauer)

A knee injury during the first week of fall camp certainly didn’t help Chris Brooks.

The true freshman wide receiver needed minor surgery and missed about three weeks of valuable practice time.

After playing sparingly in Nebraska’s season opener against Maine, Brooks hasn’t played a snap the last two games.

Said wide receivers coach Ted Gilmore the week before the Pittsburgh game: “(Brooks) has got to prove he’s ready to play, and right now, in my opinion, he’s got a ways to go. … The trust factor’s not there yet.”

Brooks, though, isn’t blaming injuries or inexperience for his lack of playing time.

“My biggest problem was practice habits,” Brooks said. “I wasn’t a real big practice guy, and that’s what I’m working on. I’m working on bursting out of all of my cuts, finishing plays and just making plays in practice.

“I believe if I continue to do that, I’ll gain the coaches’ trust, and they’ll put me out there when I need to be out there.”

Gilmore, who’s on the road recruiting this week, wasn’t available for comment, but Nebraska offensive coordinator Jay Norvell said Wednesday he’s been encouraged by Brooks’ progress this week.

Brooks said he hears daily reminders from the coaching staff — head coach Bill Callahan, in particular — about giving better effort in practice.

“Coach Callahan, he chews me out every day,” Brooks said. “He pulls me aside and he’s like, ‘Chris, you’ve got to get going. You gotta do it, you gotta do it.’

“I kind of got the heat early, in training camp, when I would catch a ball and kind of lag. They’d pull me to the side and say, ‘You can’t do that. You’ve got to finish.’ And that’s what I’m trying to do. Just seeing Cory Ross do that every play, whether it’s a little handoff or what, he finishes plays. That’s something I really took from him, just finishing plays in practice.”

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Brooks was among those highly touted recruits many figured could make an impact this season.

For Brooks, that hasn’t happened. Yet, anyway.

“The time is now,” Brooks said. “I have to turn it on. I have to take it to another level.

“When you come to Nebraska, everyone expects you to do so many big things. You just have to live up to it. Everyone that signed here … they knew all the pressures and all the standards that were set. But we have to do an excellent job of reaching those standards. And we have to set the bar even higher for those coming in.”

Brooks is one of several Nebraska receivers making a concerted effort to improve during a bye week. As a group, the receivers have struggled in different areas — dropping balls, not running crisp routes and, most recently, not freeing themselves from man coverage.

Pittsburgh, in particular, pressed NU’s receivers and many times disrupted the offense’s timing. Callahan said more teams are playing that type of technique throughout the Big 12 Conference, too.

“That’s a big issue,” Nebraska receiver Mark LeFlore said. “They’ve been doing it a lot, crowding the box to stop Cory (Ross) and just sticking one corner out there on the receiver, saying, ‘We’re going to shut you down and be the great equalizer.’

“That can’t happen in our offense. We just have to practice getting off the ball. There’s really no excuse for it. Get off the ball, get your depth and make the play.”

Brooks said coaches have been stressing the importance of beating bump-and-run coverage this week in practice.

“You’ve got to beat pressure, you’ve got to be physical,” Brooks said. “If you just have the mentality that you’re not going to let anyone stop you, you’re going to beat press (coverage). You’re going to be physical, and you’re not going to let anyone get their hands on you.”

Receiver Terrence Nunn said receivers simply have to be able to beat man coverage at any time. “That’s how it’s been since high school,” the sophomore said.

Nunn said the receivers need to click and get their timing down, and that a week off would help.

Brooks, though, wants to play today.

“Who needs time off?” Brooks said. “I always say I’ll sleep when I’m dead. We don’t need time off. We just need to continue doing what we’re doing as a team, and we’ll do better.”

We really could use him on the field!!!!!

I thought some of the Huskers fans here would like to read this.

100% COTTEN: Red Carpet Treatment
by Stan Cotten

Sept. 11, 2005

The Nebraska game sure wasn't much fun. Losing never is. But never in my life, well 26 years of it anyway, have I ventured into enemy territory and been treated anywhere close to as well as I was in Lincoln, Nebraska. From my where I sat that was the nicest, most sportsmanlike group I'd ever encountered.

Nebraska football has some great traditions. I wonder if the Red Carpet Treatment for opponents is one of them. It sure didn't feel like it suddenly happened that the Huskers decided they would be courteous to a visiting group. Rather it seemed as if this was inside of them. And had been.

It was their way of life.

The Wake Forest-Nebraska game was sold out at Memorial Stadium. It was the 270th straight time (an NCAA record) that all of the tickets had been gobbled up to make the gathering the third largest city in Nebraska on game day. Those folks in red sure do love their football. And their opponents, too.

I quit counting the times that the locals went out of their way to extend a hand and a warm greeting. When asked about a good spot for a bite to eat, Wesley the bellhop, an Army National Guard Reservesman just back from boot camp in Ft. Jackson, South Carolina, not only had several suggestions, but he offered to take us wherever we wanted to go. You could see in his eyes that he wasn't doing this out of duty. It was his pleasure. The ride was just a few blocks, but we tipped the kid five bucks. It seemed right.

Clent Gentry, Josh Nixon and I went in search of a good local spot for breakfast on Saturday morning. While walking down the street, an elderly gentleman approached us and asked if we were looking for a good breakfast spot. How did he know? He sent us off to Kuhl's just around the corner. Stella, the owner, seated us in a booth just like she had no doubt thousands of others before us in over 35 years of business. I couldn't finish my pancakes and eggs. And for once my per diem covered the tab - plus tip! Now that's a breakfast.

On the way back to the hotel we passed several people who could tell we "weren't from around there." Smiles and "have a great day!" flowed freely. Even from a scalper. Do they treat the Sooners this way? Something tells me they do. And mean it.

The stadium wasn't that far from The Cornhusker Hotel, so Josh and I walked to the game. Was everybody in Lincoln really this happy? They sure seemed to be, and maybe when you never lose at home it's easy to be that way. But I actually had envisioned Wake Forest winning a close game, the Husker fans leaving in disbelief that a team from a basketball conference could have actually come into Memorial Stadium and beaten their beloved Big Red - and those same fans patting us on the backs after the game for a job well-done and bidding us to come again, real soon. I honestly think that would have happened had the score been reversed.

The Cornhusker faithful cheered the Deacons as they ran onto the field, and the Nebraska band welcomed their opponents with the Wake Forest fight song. If only the Husker team had been so accommodating. But Bill Callahan's team did what it was supposed to try to do. Win. And the fans did their part, too.

Do you think they knew something we didn't?

The guys over at another board have come up with an idea of monumental proportions (obviously kicked off by McKeon's suggestion that the students wear black shirts) and could be something that would give Memorial Stadium an even more intimidating presence.

Husker77 who used to post here sent an email to Channel 7 (theomahachannel.com) asking for help implementing the idea that black towels be waved by fans at the game in support of the blackshirts. The sports director emailed back stating that it was an interesting idea that he was going to run by the powers-that-be.

Regardless of their action on this, we need to get this idea going. Being a huge Steeler fan, I can vouch for towel waving. The Terrible Towel is famous! Let's make the Blackshirt Towel as famous in college football. This is a grassroots effort that has to start somewhere. Let's help the guys over at BRB kick this thing off....and lets try to get it started at the ISU game.

This defense has seemingly improved incredibly over the past year. The blackshirts name is something known all over the country. Nebraska's tradition of excellence has been build upon a foundation of defensive excellence. How amazing would be be to see 77,000 fans waving black towels and screaming like maniacs whenever the blackshirts take the field.

If you agree, bring a black towel to the game next Saturday. Tell your friends, family, etc., to do the same.

Let's to start a tradition that could be massive!

We all know and love the RED OUT....let's kick off the BLACK OUT!

I don't know how well this is going over but it sounds like a cool thing.
