Oh, I think so. I really do. You need a little breeze to hit the skin while you are rubbing to create a higher friction rate. The top on eliminates that. So with that said, could you please remove the top????

Say what you like about SOB, he'd be a substantial upgrade as the #2 on this team. So long as we paid him like a #2!!!
His prorated #'s last year would have equated to a 29 TD 11 INT 3800 yard season with a QB Rating of 97.9. Yeah, I'd take him in a heartbeat!

After three games last year, Jake's prorated numbers were phenomenal.
A few games does not a season make and we had four with the Greasy One. We know what he can and cannot do. What he cannot do is come back to this team.
This board will implode. I promise.

Ha! I love absurd things. First, he will never play in Denver again, so it's moot.
Second, he will be a starter for Tampa this year, and again have a higher QB rating than Plummer.
Third, he will choke when the heat is on in crunch time for Gruden.
Broncoman13
08-24-2005, 04:18 PM
I'm not worried about this board... I'm worried about Jake going down. This is purely hypothetical anyhow. His prorated #'s come after he threw for 2400 yards and 18 TD's in 10 games (or something like that)... that's a pretty good baseline from which to draw.
As for his mobility, he's no Plummer but he's more mobile than Kannell.
As for his heart... three stops and he's a starter once again...not sure you can question his heart now. If we were talking about a QB that hadn't been here before you guys would be all over him!

5-4 in 2000?
2000 Brian Griese, Denver, AFC 336 216 2,688 19 4 102.9
First of all he played in 10 games that year.
Second of all he was 7-3. If you don't remember correctly it wasn't until he went out that we struggled and barely made the playoffs!
He sucked horribly the following year which in fact doomed him.
He's 5 years more mature now. He should have never received that big contract in the first place... we all know that and even said so at the time. If we were talking about bringing him in to be a starter it would be a hell no... but a back-up. You could do a lot worse!

For the Bucs last year he was 5-6. His passer rating in those 6 losses was 94.2. Begs the question... is he the reason they weren't winning those games? For comparison Jakes rating during his 10 wins was just over 95.

The Broncos were 5-4 when Griese went down with his shoulder injury and Gus Frerotte took them to a 6-1 finish and a playoff spot.

Griese is just not a winner, period. He does not have the heart or personality to inspire his teammates. I do not care if he had a rating of 105, he would still fold come playoff time.
Broncoman13
08-24-2005, 06:43 PM
Can't argue with that... but again we're talking a back-up QB. We're not talking a starter, we're not talking somebody that's going to lead you to a championship. We're talking somebody that can come in and play a roll should your starter go down.
Again, if the question was... would you take a back-up QB that just came off a 2600 yard season with 20 TD's and a rating of 97 or so... what would the answer be?

Pardon me, it was actually 6-3 instead of 5-4, my bad. ::)
He appeared in that game against the 49ers and didn't make it through 1 series (big surprise) before he got hurt again. So giving him credit for that win is simply ridiculous.
But please go on with the "nothing was Griese's fault" line of reasoning, it's as laughable now as it was then. But then even Griese believed that nothing was his fault. Remember, "I don't have anyone to throw to."
Griese has no leadership skills, no mobility, a dead arm and is fragile as a china doll. Why anyone would pine for that gutless maggot's return is beyond me.......but then the Broncos did bring back Ian Gold, so never say never I guess.

Passer rating is almost irrelevant anymore. The game is so stilted toward offense in recent years. Used to be a 3,000 yd season was the standard for an exceptional year - now it's pretty much required just to keep your job.
I read on another thread that the AVERAGE qb rating for all 32 starting qb's last year was something like 82 - higher than Elway's career rating.
So 2,600 yds, 20 TD's and a 97 rating is nothing to write home about. Plus it never actually happened - these are projected numbers. Many qbs can get hot for a few games. Proove it over a 16 game season.
Pass on Greiseball.

They key to having an effective backup is not altering the teams philosophy and gameplanning much. Having Griese step in for Jake would drastically change the way we play the game on offense (and that would affect every player out there).
I'm happy BVP is our backup. He resembles our starter in a lot of ways. Too many unfortunately....

Those aren't projected #'s... they are actuals with his 10 games played.
Like Baja said, it's interesting that given the need of a worth #2 QB nobody would be interested in Griese. I'm not trying to make anybody agree with me but you sound rediculous when you in fact say you'd rather have a QB that's never taken an NFL snap backing up Jake than a QB that has a modestly proven track record.

Experience at isolating himself from the rest of the team? I got so sick of watching him sitting at the end of the bench feeling sorry for himself. Griese has more game experience in the NFL, but his leadership just plain sucks IMO. I'd rather let BVP take his bumps and bruises if Jake goes down. He'll learn from it and I have a feeling the other players would play their guts out for him.

I think Griese can be a good QB in this league, He showed a lot of good things during his time in Denver, BUT he burnt all his bridges here. Nobody liked him and they didn't want to play for him. A fresh start has done him well and I think he will play well, just not in Denver.
