MCPHERSON WATCH
The Dolphins are closely monitoring the backup quarterback situation with New Orleans, anticipating that fifth-round pick Adrian McPherson could be cut, meaning the Dolphins could possibly claim him on waivers.
According to a source, McPherson has fallen behind Kliff Kingsbury in the competition for the third quarterback job. The Saints are unlikely to keep more than three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster, leading to the likelihood that McPherson will be let go.
McPherson, a former Florida State standout who was kicked out after being involved in a gambling probe, was considered one of the best athletes in the draft. However, he hasn't been able to overcome a number of mental errors.
Coach Nick Saban said after the draft that he would have considered drafting McPherson in the fifth round. Instead, the Saints took McPherson earlier that round, with the No. 152 pick overall. The Dolphins took offensive tackle Anthony Alabi at No. 162.

I watched McPherson play the first exhibition game against the Seahawks and he looked pretty impressive. There are things he was to work on to hone his passing game, but the raw athletic ability he showed just makes your jaw drop.

Only players I wanted in the draft: Brodney Poole, Adrian McPherson, Brandon Browner.

Being that the Chiefs have absolutely nothing at #3QB spot I would love to have him and try to develop him. Seeing him lineup under the guard instead of the center in his first game tells me he has at least a little bit of Elway in him.

We already have a quagmire of QBs that are average. Besides, does this team have any place for a developmental QB right now? That would mean if Jake goes down our options would be BVP and McPherson. As much as I like BVP, that is scary. If we had a solid #2 that could win us some games or were rebuilding, then I'd be for it.

Why would the Saints keep some system creation in Kliff Klingsbury? Texas Tech is pretty much the BYU and Houston of old times in terms of quarterbacks. After McMahon and Young, BYU had Robbie Bosco, John Walsh, Ryan Hancock, Steve Sarkisian, basically a group of CFL caliber QBs who lit it up in Lavell Edwards' west coast system in Provo. Ty Detmer was a career backup as well.

Doesn't make since to me either...especially since they have a very solid and seasoned back up in Todd Bouman....If their #2 were really young and inexperienced then taking a guy like KK who has been exposed to the NFL for several years over a rook would make a tiny bit of sense but definitely not in this situation.

I don't see a solid #2 becoming available after preseason cuts. Broncos ignored street free agents such as Jeff Blake and Kordell Stewart for months, I think they will stick with what they have unless an injury occurs.
I agree with you that Van Pelt starting a NFL game this season is going to be just as ugly as Tommy Maddox/Shawn Moore splitting time back in 1992.

You're right, it makes no sense! Kliff Klingsbury lost the third quarterback battle in New England to cough: Matt Kassell last season! Kassell had thrown all but 33 passes in his USC career.

I'm surprised to hear that he isn't playing well. I know the guy is raw, but I didn't think he'd be on the verge of getting cut. I'd love the Broncos to bring him in. I wish they would have taken a risk on him instead of Clarett. This guy has all the tools, and is a perfect fit for Shanny's offense.

Gotta disagree. He lit up Arena ball... which might not say much but consider his age, his arm (standing flat footed can heave it 70 yards), and his ability to elude pressure.
