The blocked punt was because of a bad snap. It was only a couple yards to the side, but far enough that the end rusher didn't have to go straight through the protection to get to Sauerbrun.

We sucked, but not quite as hard as last week.

This unit has given me no reason to believe its better than last years. Fortunately, the issues we are having are more about effort (running down on coverage and blocking) than specialists. We have capable specialists. Still, I consider it a very bad sign. We had the same problem as last year. Once our first unit O left the game, the second team O played the entire quarter on their side of the field. They just couldn't flip the field position.

The main reason we brought back Keith Burns was to help turn around the Special Teams with his leadership. He always led the way and brought an attitude to the ST's.
Adams is better than Williams returning punts.

Adams is doing a good job, but he still hasnt really gotten outta the dog house from his fumble last year, but when given a little space he breaks them free.
St was awful last night, not only a botched snap, but always 2 missed FG's by our bread and butter - not good. Good thing its preseason, hoefully by the time the season starts elam is back on down the middle. :homer:

We need to bring on Elams replacment sooner or later. One thing that has always seperated us from being a winning team and a losing team has been the fact we always seem to score some points...Elam is a key player on this team and it is esential we replace him when he leaves!

It doesn't matter who is returning punts, punting or kicking off if the other ten players on the field don't do their job.

That's not true. It does matter.

The athletes are there, so it has to be either coaching or lack of effort, which comes back to coaching. I think Bradford has to change this thing or he's getting axed. Sauerbrun has never had a punt blocked from what has been said in here. Preseason or not, he's gotta be wondering what's going on. Elam gets a pass for the misses...unless they continue.

I'll bet Sauerbrun would have got to that ball a lot quicker if it was a meatball sandwich.

The ST's aren't rivaling the best ever seen, but they still have time to do some fine-tuning.

Adams broke free because our ST unit finally set up right and got some good blocks going. They opened a big hole that he ran through. Williams with his speed might have taken it all the way, but that is just my opinion.
ST on punt protection and coverage needs to step it up big time. They have two weeks to work on this and get it right.

A Baker 35 yard punt is better than a blocked Saurbrum kick or a 70 yard punt returned 40 yards.
A great returner will never get a 10 yard return if his blockers don't do thei jobs
