Chris Myers the second string center.
Van Pelt has fast dropbacks and a quick, powerful delivery. He looks like Terry Bradshaw. His PA stuff he needs to work on. He doesn't sell it too well.
Kubiak is still in the booth.
Paymah got picked on a lot, but stood up to it. And they had his name spelled right on his jersey this week.
The orange gloves are getting more popular.
Bell has big play written all over him.
Dayne can't pick off a blitzer worth a damn.
Watts is so smooth and open, even Jerry Rice is getting pissed off at him.

How do you figure Paymah stood up to it? He got burnt bad on more than one occassion.
Foxworth was more in position and made two or three sure open field tackles.

SF went after Paymah a lot. He was playing the Champ side of the field, with the man coverage. He got stiff armed and gave up a couple first downs as a result. It looked to me like he was in man coverage, whereas the D was rotating to Foxworth's side more often.
I noticed Engleberger is still on third team.

Paymah didn't just get burned, he forgot what defense they were in. 10 guys were playing man coverage and he was playing zone and to the surprise of no one, a 50+ yard TD was the result.

It also looked to me like Leseuer is lost most of the time at safety.
What a shame Browner has a broken bone. I bet he doesn't go to IR. They'll need him at safety as soon as he can get back, barring some suberb play by Brandon or LeSeuer in the next few games.

Well, I don't kn ow what happened there. Paymah had been in man every time I saw, but then released the guy on that play. Maybe it was 31's fault. Nevertheless, 41 was kept in there by the coaching staff and kept tight man coverage. Preseason is where the coaching staff puts pressure on players they want to test. Apparently, they were testing 41, and IMO he did pretty well.

Getting burned like that is good for rookie corners. Those reps and setbacks can be turned to fuel to try and get better.

31 is Jeremy Leseur and it definitely wasn't his fault. They showed a wide shot of the entire field on the replay and everyone else was in man coverage, both safeties were still in the middle of the field. Paymah released his man after about 10 yards and was acting as though he thought he had over the top help.
It was a mistake, but it was a costly mistake and Shanahan let him hear about it as soon as he got to the sideline.

I noticed Putzier is still on second team. Surprising to me. On game day, he makes big plays. I've heard constant talk this year about how the coaching staff loves practice players. I've been on a few teams before, and I tend toward giving gameday players the nod.

There are time when a player can be a good gameday player who in not a good practice player. But I would guess it is few and far between.

Browner is for sure going to IR. He is a projoect and wasn't going to see any playing time this year anyway, if he even made the team. IMO I thought he was going to be on the practice squad.
From what I've seen and read Brandon has been doing very well in camp and preseason. We could lose a safety this year and still be in decent shape with him in the starting line up. If we lose two safetys though, we are in big trouble. Even if Browner was healthy.
I guess there still is a possibility of Browner getting cutt and put on the practice squad. Those roster spots are just too valuable to waste one for an undrafted rookie who won't be able to contribute for some time.

Why would you sign a guy to the practice squad if he can't even practice?

Yeah you have a good point. I guess the only way they would do that is if they thought he could contribute this year when he becomes healty.

IR seems like the safest route. I think he's got the potential to be a good free safety.

Something I've noticed is that Jake Plummer hasn't forced a single throw in either of his stints in the preseason this year. Yes, it's only preseason, but last year at this time Jake had already thrown a couple of picks, no touchdowns and was publicly telling the fans to relax.
This year he hasn't forced anything. There have been a couple of instances where I cringed, thinking that he'd revert back to his old self and try to squeeze one through tight coverage. Instead he either ran and got a few yards or threw the ball away.
It's just a pair of preseason starts, but it's definitely encouraging.

Good thing Brandon still looks solid.
I still have my personal theory that Brandon is a training camp star only. Love the guy to death though, wish he were starting over Fergie.

Watts is so smooth and open, even Jerry Rice is getting pissed off at him.
The kid runs such good routes, it's frightening. He looks like a seasoned vet. Quick cuts, smooth transitions.... the kind of stuff coaches spend lifetimes trying to teach players. The guy is ALWAYS open. I swear he's going to be a monster if he can get over his mental thing with the drops. I hope we stick with him.

Young receivers can go through stretches like this, like a hitter in baseball who goes into a slump. I think he'll snap out of it in time...he proved he could catch in college and last year. How long it will take is anybodies guess. After tonight though, it looks like Adams and Devoe are moving ahead of him. If they don't cut Jerry (unlikely) I wonder if they just keep 6?

I don't care that he worked hard off season, can get seperation, is fast, looks good and has everything to be even better than Lelie. He has to catch the football.
If he takes the year and masters blocking, practicing his routes, and looking at things from further down on the depth chart he will have to fight his way back up the charts but he'll be a world beater when he gets there.

I wish Jerry Rice would just go away. Whoever dreamed we would have a 42 year old with tendinitis in his foot being our #3 Receiver. If this is the best we have, that could be bad news if Lelie or Rod goes down.
I'd cut Rice and move the youngsters up.

yeah, I suppose there's just no way to get around that.

I noticed that BVP is able to sidestep that LDE the o-line lets go on the rollouts to the right. Jake does not do that. Jake fades backwards and throws off his back foot. Elway used to do just what BVP does - stop, sidestep the LDE, then step up and deliver a harder more accurate throw then I see from Jake.
