Kansas City Chiefs players tangle with the law
3 of 5 face charges after Minneapolis exhibition game
BY JOHN BREWER
Pioneer Press
Watch out when Kansas City Chiefs football players get a day off from their grueling preseason workouts.
In a rumpus that could be billed as an episode of "Chiefs Gone Wild," five Kansas City players got into legal scrapes of various kinds in the east metro and western Wisconsin.
Three incidents involving Chiefs players happened between 1 and 1:30 a.m. Sunday, a little more than 24 hours after the team lost an exhibition game to the Minnesota Vikings at the Metrodome.
Two players were arrested after struggling with police in a swank downtown Minneapolis hotel. Two more were escorted out of a popular club in Stillwater when one caused a disturbance. Another player was eventually charged with a felony after allegedly fracturing a bouncer's nose in a downtown River Falls tavern.
A Chiefs spokesman downplayed the importance of five players showing up on police blotters.
"I'm a little surprised by the interest in the press up here," said team representative Bob Moore. "I guess Randy Moss leaves town and things go a little slow."
After a 27-16 loss to the Vikings, Chiefs players were released from their University of Wisconsin-River Falls training camp until Sunday morning. The freedom may have been too much.
In the most serious incident, kicker Lawrence J. Tynes was charged with substantial battery, a felony, in Pierce County Circuit Court on Wednesday morning for his role in a fight at Boomer's Bar in River Falls.
Tynes was described in the police report as "extremely agitated" when officers arrived on the scene.
He told officers that he was trying to leave the bar and was attacked by several people "for no reason whatsoever."
A digital camera in the bar might tell a different story.
According to the report, the surveillance video shows Tynes exchanging words with bar patron Bradley Roy. Tynes then throws a drink in Roy's face and starts "attacking him." Bouncer Brian J. Roquette is later seen restraining Tynes.
The 6-foot-1, 202-pound Tynes elbows Roquette and spins away. Bar owner Ted Roughton ends up holding onto Tynes and tells police he suggested to Tynes that he leave peacefully.
In the video, Roughton loses his grip and Tynes allegedly "is observed jumping up and striking Mr. Roquette in the face."
Tynes was released to team security after the incident. When police found out Monday that Roquette's nose was fractured, the case was forwarded to the Pierce County district attorney's office. A criminal complaint was filed Tuesday.
"It's a case where my client got thrown out of the bar by six bouncer bullies and attempted to defend himself. That's all," said Earl Gray, Tynes' St. Paul attorney.
Tynes was released on a $15,000 bond after his court appearance.
About the same time Sunday night, police were flagged down outside of the Freight House Restaurant and Bar in Stillwater.
A manager needed help in getting Todd Collins, a Chiefs backup quarterback, and Trent Green, the starting quarterback, out of the bar.
"Apparently they were causing a problem inside," said Stillwater police Sgt. Jeff Magler. "When they (Freight House security) attempted to remove Collins, he resisted."
A small struggle ensued until officers intervened and the players were sent on their way. There were no arrests in the incident.
In Minneapolis, Saousoalii Siavii Jr. and Gregory Wesley were arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct in the Graves 601 Hotel downtown. Siavii allegedly threw objects and yelled obscenities in the hotel lobby. When police attempted to arrest him, Wesley allegedly blocked the exit and charged the officers.
Siavii, a defensive tackle, and Wesley, a safety, were taken to the Hennepin County jail and released later Sunday.
Siavii appeared in Hennepin County District Court for arraignment Wednesday morning and pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charges of fifth-degree assault and disorderly conduct; his next court date is an Oct. 6 pretrial hearing.
Wesley will be arraigned Friday morning. He faces a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge.
After his initial appearance Wednesday, Tynes was scheduled to be back in Pierce County Circuit Court on Oct. 11 for a preliminary hearing.
All the players but Siavii were back on the field practicing Wednesday, Moore said. The defensive tackle was sidelined with a sore knee from Friday's game, he said.
"I would not characterize these people as troublemakers," said Moore, the Chiefs spokesman, adding that the team is going to let the legal system run its course. "Celebrities and public figures are recognized much more easily today than they used to be. They have to be much more careful."

Well, when the window of opportunity closes, all heck breaks out. You don't think last years' meltdown doesn't play on their little collective minds? The Chievies are on the downhill slide, now. Some teams do not recover very quickly. (Buffalo, T Bay, Chokeland, and others). Some seem to maintain their competitiveness year in and year out, and are usually envied by nutty trolls.
What ever is bad for the Chievies and their fans, I love.

RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The fallout from a night off continues for the Chiefs.
Police in Stillwater, Minn., were flagged down to assist in a bar incident involving quarterbacks Todd Collins and Trent Green in the early-morning hours last Sunday. Collins, according to an incident report, climbed up on a speaker box at the Freight House Restaurant and Bar and refused to get down. When a security guard attempted to remove Collins, he allegedly struck him in the head.

The story as it was told to Tim Grunhard on 610 is that it was 12:30 and the bar closed. Trent and Todd had just gotten a drink and was asked by the bouncer to leave. The bouncer put his hands on him and Todd got angry and told him to get his hands off of him. Bouncer goes and gets the manager. Players refuse to leave till they are done with their drink. Manager goes outside and flags down the cop. Cops arrive and bouncer tells them to leave scuffle ensues. Players see the cop and go voluntarily.

As the Chiefs ended their morning workout, and Green faced reporters, president/general manager Carl Peterson said the Pro Bowl quarterback would answer only football-related questions. "I want it to be understood that this guy right here, Trent Green, was not a facilitator," Peterson said. "He was a negotiator, and because of his efforts, a situation which could've been pretty volatile was not. There were no charges filed, there were no arrests, the police were there and they were very pleased to have Trent there. The incident is over with. "I would hope that people in Kansas City, particularly, never question the integrity of this guy right here. What he's done on the field, and off the field, more importantly, and his family, I think, speak volumes about the integrity of Trent Green. In spite of what some media may want to suppose or write, they're wrong. And this incident is closed as far as we're concerned." Peterson apparently was referring to information in the police report, which alleges that Green had been becoming "overly friendly and grabby towards female wait staff." According to the report, the security guard told police he didn't want to press charges after he spoke with Green.

More from Trent...
He said the "grabby" comment in the incident report is completely untrue. The incident report is 1 persons opinion and no one elses. It upsets him that people do things like this, that they would throw his name in there because it makes it a bigger story.
He was only there to help out a friend, He wasn't intoxicated, he drove Todd home. No one had a complaint to him the whole time he was there.
He says Todd is his friend and he would help him again. If he had walked the other way his name wouldn't have been in the report but that's not the kind of friend or teammate he is.
He talks about that this is a good football team, and that people shouldn't lose faith in them because of a couple of incidents.
These incidents that have happened over the weekend make people realize they need to know who they are. There are people out there good and bad trying to get some attention. The incidents have brought the team closer together, they've had some meetings about these things. They realize they need to have each others backs and support each other.
Now he's talking about how this has been the best week of practice the team has had. Alot of the injured players are coming back to play this week.
He wants people to Kansas City to know this is an isolated incident. That with his track record and the people who know him that he isn't like this. He's embarassed that his happened and that his family has to go through this. But that happens when your in the public eye.
And that is the end of the interview.

More from Trent...
He wants people to Kansas City to know this is an isolated incident. That with his track record and the people who know him that he isn't like this. He's embarassed that his happened and that his family has to go through this. But that happens when your in the public eye.
And that is the end of the interview.
Ya an "isolated night of incidents" Ha! Your managment and team leaders have lost control of the team face it boob the door for the chefs closed in 2003. Go Royals Ha!

Go Royals Ha!
That would be nice if the Chefs achieved the same level of "success" as the Royals. They've currently lost 18 in a row... Ha!

From a poster on Chiefs Planet ....
"The story as it was told to Grunny on 610 is that it was 12:30 and the bar closed. Players see the cop and go voluntarily."
That doesn't sound like a "small town police" conspiracy, it sounds like a couple of stubborn prima donnas with too much to drink. The "small town authorities" helped keep them out of more trouble - IMO.

CARL PETERSON

TRAINING CAMP
CARL PETERSON: “Specific to an incident involving a couple of our quarterbacks Saturday night in Stillwater, Minnesota, I want it to be understood that this guy right here, Trent Green, was not a facilitator he was a negotiator. Because of his efforts a situation which could have been pretty volatile was not.
“There were no charges filed, there were no arrests; the police were there. They were very pleased to have Trent there and the incident is over with.
“I would hope that people in Kansas City in particular never question the integrity of this guy right here, Trent Green, and what he’s done on the field and off the field. Along with his family it speaks volumes about the integrity of Trent Green.
“This incident is closed as far as we’re concerned.
“Specific to the other incidents, right now they’re in the hands of the legal people. I think you know it’s our long-term policy with the Kansas City Chiefs that if they’re legal issues we are not going to make a comment until due process takes its course. At that time, we will.
“But once again, specific to this quarterback (Trent Green), I’m glad he was where he was to negotiate and help a situation that we’re disappointed with but is over with. We’ve looked into it and we’re moving on from it.”

Chiefs QBs involved in bar incident
By ELIZABETH MERRILL
The Kansas City Star
RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The fallout from a night off continues for the Chiefs. Police in Stillwater, Minn., were flagged down to assist in a bar incident involving quarterbacks Todd Collins and Trent Green in the early-morning hours last Sunday. Collins, according to an incident report, climbed up on a speaker box at the Freight House Restaurant and Bar and refused to get down. When a security guard attempted to remove Collins, he allegedly struck him in the head. No charges have been filed in the incident.
Three other Chiefs players were also involved in brushes with the law in the early hours Sunday. Their incidents, on a rare night off from training camp, occurred within one hour in three different parts of the area. Kicker Lawrence Tynes was charged Wednesday on one felony count of substantial battery in connection with an altercation at Boomer's, a River Falls nightclub. About the same time Tynes was charged, defensive tackle Junior Siavii's lawyer was entering not-guilty pleas in a Minneapolis courtroom on charges of disorderly conduct and misdemeanor assault. Siavii and safety Greg Wesley were arrested Sunday morning for an incident at a Minneapolis hotel. Wesley was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

Sounds like the cops are out in full force just WAITING to NAIL any Chiefs player who BREATHES WRONG.
uh no, sounds like a couple of guys who think they are above the law and above being told to leave.

What do you bet negotiations included "Do you know who I am?". Can't imagine this small town doesn't recognize the revenue being generated by having these clown's camp there. Fairly amazing the story got out at all.

Dude...the west has some bad ass kickers...you got Jano bribing cops...Saurmon taking riods and calling out other kickers all while driving drunk...and you Tynes punching old ladies....LOL I'd rag on the SD kicker if I thought they has...but it seems lately when they kick....no points are scored. So I assume there really isn't anyone doing it.
Don't forget Cole Ford! I know he isn't kicking anymore, but he deserves mention - if only because of the creative nature of his crime.

A Chiefs spokesman downplayed the importance of five players showing up on police blotters.
"I'm a little surprised by the interest in the press up here," said team representative Bob Moore. "I guess Randy Moss leaves town and things go a little slow."
What a stupid comment. "Gee, I can't believe you all get so worked up over a few arrests. What other NFL city even pays attention to their players getting arrested?"
Um, okay.
And then for a Kansas City "spokesman" to speak of Minneapolis as being backwoodsish is, well, sort of ironic.
