BRONCOS PLACE S CHRIS YOUNG ON RESERVE/INJURED LIST

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos on Wednesday placed safety Chris Young on the reserve/injured list, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced. Young, a third-year player, suffered a right knee injury at Houston on Aug. 13 in the Broncos’ preseason opener.

Young will undergo microfracture surgery on his right patella Thursday at the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Denver. The procedure will be performed by Head Team Physician Dr. Ted Schlegel.

Young (6-0, 210 pounds) has played in 21 career regular-season games (0 starts) in two seasons with the Broncos, posting one defensive tackle and six special-teams stops. In 2004, he made two special-teams tackles in 10 regular-season games and appeared in Denver’s AFC Wild Card Game at Indianapolis on Jan. 9.

The Broncos selected Young in the seventh round (228th overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft from Georgia Tech. He was born Jan. 23, 1980, in Senoia, Ga., and attended East Coweta High School in Sharpsburg, Ga.
