Check it out. Thought you guys would like to hear the 9ers fans take on Middlebrooks tonight. They're raving about this guy...saying he shut Moss down and looks like a possible starter. He did start tonight because Spencer was hurt. Of course there's still plenty of time for him to tear up a knee or an ankle or who knows what. Also...I'm thinking Moss wasn't exactly giving it the Rod Smith effort tonight, which would hardly suprise.

Engleberger notches a sack and Middlebrooks has a good game. Well that's nice to hear. Since he's playing for the niners now, he doesn't have to worry about being healthy for any playoff games either. :~ohyah!:

i guess that was a fair trade then. good for middlebrooks. but it would take more than a probowl year by middlebrooks for them to get out of cellar this year. i do hope they play well, and so do the bears... a game better than the redskins is all i wish for.

The 9ers have a pretty good RB prospect in that Purify kid. Anyone see the game? Wouldn't be surprised if he gave Barlow a run.

Purify has always been sweet to watch... for about 3 weeks... then he'll strain a groin, or a toe, or seperate a shoulder. That guy just has a major problem with injuries.

I watched much of the first half. Middlebrooks was blanketing Moss with the first team. Did not see Purify though.

Two things jump out at me from reading what those 49er fans had to say.....one is...willie had Moss's number all night...LOL....like it was a whole regular season game. Two...they disrepect Shanahan...who's OC work helped win a Super Bowl there and absolutely helped SY get a 1st ballot induction last week. Oh the irony.

Garcia Bronco
08-14-2005, 08:47 AM
And another thing about Moss...you can hold him all night. for 25 plays...but whether it's the 1st...or the 4th quarter...he's a threat to catch a deep one and score on ya.

well, if middlebrooks can defend moss, maybe moss lost a step? ;)

Lestat

holding Moss under control isn't as good as it sounds cause it means other WR's are likely making big catches while you got 1-2 great guys on Moss

Middlebrooks, pro bowl? HA What a joke. The guy will never make it more then 8 games this year.

I really don't care what Middlebusts does for the 49ers. Fact is he didn't do anything for us. And as long as Engleberger gives us even a little bit of production we came out ahead on the trade 'cause Willie wouldn't have done anything for us this year just like last year.

On the ESPN board some posters were saying Middlebrooks got beat all night. Course maybe weren't high on the trade.

I was under the impression that Willie's knee wasn't quite right, maybe it's finally come around. I was a little surprised at the move because we allready had to many DL, and figured that we might of sold them a bill of goods. More than likely, it wasn't Middlebrooks shutting Moss down. 90% probability says Moss was slacking.

I had mixed emotions too and even started a thread about it.

The thing that is encouraging is the FO must have felt good enough about the three drafted CBs to deem Middlebrooks expendable.

I still like Willie alot, but I just don't trust him to stay healthy, especially in games we really NEED him for. And the bigger and better our D-Line rotation is, The better we are. I really think, with the League rules being what they are, the most important aspect to a team's success is its D-Line.

This cracks me up. Had the guy 1 time in 4 years finished a season then yeah maybe we should have kept him but he is always hurt. Keep saying well he played well this preseason game, I have read that he didn't play well also. I just don't think he will ever do anything more then play a few games and land on the IR.

No, I stand by Willie and that he will be extremely productive in the NFL. SF's scheme will probably be good to him, too.

DBroncos4Life, definitely earned some respect from me with your last post. Now that hes playing good a lot of the "Middlebusts" are turning into "I wanted to keep him!". Glad you stand by your word as I will always stand by Willie, Deltha and the lack of talent/potential in Mike Anderson.

I never really dogged Oneal. I always thought he would make a good FS in the NFL and really he was the type of player you need next to a shutdown guy in Bailey. I didn't like Oneal getting burned though and he had to do something to piss off the coaches that bad to get moved to the O. I liked Middlebrooks and I wish him well but I just don't think he will ever be healthy to amount to anything. In return we got a high motor guy that has never been hurt and has improved each year in the NFL. I just can't see how we didn't win in that trade.

How bout the best football program in the nation that pretty much every kid coming out of HS wants to play for?

Or two number 1 Overall QBs drafted?

Two heismen in the last 3 years?

the other one is out of football was not from USC but from the dominant and fabled Big12.

Oh yeah his team got destroyed by a Pac10 team in BCS Champsionship game, they looked like a bunch of slow brontasouruses vs REAL T-Rexes!

Let's see what they are saying at midseason when he has missed 6 games with a pulled hammy and been sentenced for beating women. Nnyah!

Seriously, I don't think anyone in Denver has ever doubted his talent. He almost looked like an NFL DB last season. He just has too much baggage and it was time for us to move on.

I think this has alot to do about Shanahan's supporting cast this year, as opposed to years passed (namely: David Gibbs).

ummmmm .... never mind.

btw, I watched the niners game, and Middlebrooks did play well. We'll miss him, but DE was a priority, and while I wish the guy well and have defended the draft pick, I think the odds are against him staying healthy.

And Delta Dawn played well for the bungles too.

But, I'm not convinced Delta can play much man, while Middlebrooks is the whole package, aside from his health and his off the field brush last year.

Its a flawed system. In my mind it doesn't work. I don't accept it. So, in my mind, there were two National Champions that year. I know alot of the public agrees with me. The BCS is a flawed system and we would be better off without it.

Uhhh, no it does not. The very fact that they attempt to collude with the AP to determine the National Champion just proves how the System is flawed. The lack of a playoff produces paper Champions since Auburn went undefeated last year as well against better Competition. Like it or not, the system sucks and there is no definitive National Champion.;

SoCalBronco

The BCS does not determine a national champion. It simply determines the lineups of who plays in certain bowl games. The Coaches Poll contracted with the BCS to award ITS national championship to the winner of that year's 1 vs 2 game. The AP did not. There has never been a BCS National Championship. There has always been 2 POLLS. The AP and USA Today/CNN/ESPN Coaches Poll. Before that it was the AP and the UPI. Both are of equal dignity. The BCS itself does not award national championships. It is the 2 polls that have always awarded the Mythical National Championships.

What would you rather win?

A crystal shaped football or a plaque of Dan Le
Batard's signature of approval?

We traded an inconsistent player in Middlebrooks for a healthy DE who can help with the ever-elusive holy grail of defense: a pass rush that can lead to turnovers. I like the trade.

So the rest of America outside the Pac10 doesn't know who is the back to back National Champions?

How bout the best football program in the nation that pretty much every kid coming out of HS wants to play for?

Or two number 1 Overall QBs drafted?

Two heismen in the last 3 years?

the other one is out of football was not from USC but from the dominant and fabled Big12.

Oh yeah his team got destroyed by a Pac10 team in BCS Champsionship game, they looked like a bunch of slow brontasouruses vs REAL T-Rexes!

America will soon know about the Pac10 after this year, whether SC 3Peats or not, trust me.

Riight, talk about not understanding anythign that I said.

People know about the Pac-10, people also know that overall it's a ****ty ass conference.

Until they play EACH OTHER, they both won it. Its really, really stupid that two teams should both be champions of the same thing, but thats the world we live in.

BCS SUCK!!! :cuss:

Auburn should've been co-national champs then last year as well, since we're going to award every team that finished 2nd now a national title as well.
