Chiefs | Sampson Officially the Starting RT
Wed, 10 Aug 2005 22:41:38 -0700

KCChiefs.com reports Kansas City Chiefs OT Kevin Sampson is the team's starting right tackle, according to head coach Dick Vermeil.

The new weak link in the KC OL has arrived! Thanks Dicky V. Courtney and trevor send their regards!

They drafted him out of Syracuse in the seventh round last season. The Chiefs think he is mobile enough to get downfield which is their #1 demand of their offensive linemen. They still have a top three o-line, but this year's group has the most questionmarks in four years due to the new green RT and age.

Plus? He's a offensive tackle who was drafted in the seventh round. The percentage of seventh round offensive tackles that make an impact in this league are lower than 5%. If he turns out to be an average tackle, you should be happy with Sampson's performance. In fact, Sampson is not even listed in the Sporting News 2004 draft guide and they list 40 OTs. Fact of the matter is, the Chiefs chose not to resign a top ten tackle in John Tait, who was still on the good side of 30 and decided to keep two guys on their last legs in Roaf and Shields. It won't be long when Brian Waters is the only Pro Bowler up front.

While crazyhorse keeps talking trash about Denver's front four, the Chiefs' d-line is going to be the reason why the defense doesn't hold up their end of the stick this season. Carlos Hall has 12 sacks in 3 seasons and the media is hyping him up as a sack machine. Ebenezer Ekuban, the #3 guy of the Browncos, recorded 8 sacks last season and he's our swing man off the bench. Dalton and Sims make up the laziest DT tandem in football. Eric Hicks hasn't done jack S*IT in three seasons.

Our offense couldn't move the football? Denver's offense racked up a total of 421 yards. The Chiefs had 428 yards of total offense that day. Denver averaged 7.1 yards per pass play and 6.1 yards per running play that game. The reason why Denver didn't put more points on the board came down to turnovers (3), penalties (10-100 yds) and losing the field position battle. Denver has always moved the ball on Kansas City.

Denver split the series and went 10-6. If going 8-8 and beating Denver floats your boat, then you have low standards. I don't give a s*it about the December game. I am pissed about not winning the Super Bowl and have been every year since 1998.

I'm not thinking anything of the sort. I haven't seen them play one down together in a different system. I know they are all going to be used in a rotation scheme.

They were bad last year in Cleveland.

I don't think that automatically equates to bad this year in Denver.

Trevor Pryce is alive and looking like the Trevor of old. Can he sustain his health all season? Don't know.

As for moving the ball on KC in Dec. I just finished watching the game yesterday. You couldn't move the ball. There was an long run and TO for Bell in the 4th that added to the offensive totals. Plus throwing for 150 in slop time with KCs second stringers in there doesn't dictate to the Donks being successful on offense.

Besides, stats dont mean ****. Just ask everybody on this board. The ONLY thing that matters is the win.

The fact that Denver was able to get into the playoffs, was a travesty to teams that could have actually done something. Denver did nothing but show they did not deserve to be there.

All you have to do is watch the game. It's not hard to see.

In the Chiefs case, Kansas City has never done jack S*IT in the National Football League. They can't even win the Lamar Hunt Trophy, the trophy that bears their owner's name.

As for moving the ball on KC in Dec. I just finished watching the game yesterday. You couldn't move the ball. There was an long run and TO for Bell in the 4th that added to the offensive totals. Arrowhead is the toughest road venue the Broncos play all season long. They played a bad game but Denver still moved the ball even in the 1st half. They shot themselves in the foot with penalties, turnovers, sacks, missed third down conversions. That's where the home field advantage comes into play. One bad game didn't mean Denver wasn't a good football team. They were the only team in the NFL ranked in both the top five in total offense and defense.

Exactly! Stats don't mean s*it. Last year's score in W-L.

Broncos 1 Chiefs 1

Chief fans seem to forget about the other game played last year. In fact, the Chiefs have never won a game in the new Mile High.

It's been the story of the series over the last fifteen years. Broncos win 80% of the time in Denver and the Chiefs win 80% of the time in Arrowhead.

The fact that Denver was able to get into the playoffs, was a travesty to teams that could have actually done something. Denver did nothing but show they did not deserve to be there.

All you have to do is watch the game. It's not hard to see.

So if it was such a travesty, then why couldn't the Chiefs rack up 10 Ws and make it if it was such an easy field? That's because the most embarrassing defense in NFL history has no business being in the playoffs. To have any hope of winning a Super Bowl, you need to get invited to the dance. The Chiefs have only been invited to the dance once in the last seven years. That ties them with the likes of the Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions, San Diego Chargers, Cleveland Browns and Chicago Bears. That's some mighty fine company there. You should be proud.

Dude, your offense will be fine. Except this year they will have to actually show up for the Denver games. Probably not number 1 but top 10 for sure. I really think the age is going to affect you guys down the stretch though this year.

The AFCW pass rush has been the worst in any conference the last three years or so. Denver finally has Depth @ DL and Talent at LB and Secondary to go with it. The mere presence of Pryce screwed your Offense in game one last year, the lack of it showed horribly in game two. Now, the DL is not all about Trevor. There is DE depth four or five deep. It is always fun to play one of the best offenses with a good defense. This year will be fun, but that Kid playing RT is in Trouble right from game one with Ellis and Abraham coming after him.

No doubt Denver had an off game in December which not having two of our Dline starters and a starting corner playing didn't help. So both teams had a few injuries and we had a particuarly off day without question. Funny, though, how selective your memory is when KC got the living crap kicked out of them in game one when both teams were pretty much at full strength.

Big deal ... both teams had some difficulties last year and needed to improve, but we were 10-6 in the playoffs and you were 8-8 and gone fishin' in the big muddy or what ever it is all the poor devils exiled in KC, of all places, could possibly be doing when Arrowhead is cold and empty.... facts are facts.

I love it that you've got your head so far up your azz about the ex-Cleveland D-lineman, all of which have been playing extrremely well so far in camp. Along with Trevor back, I suspect "TrINT" will be earning the last half of that moniker in spades beginning in week three!

Right on. So do you want to take me up on my bet? Seems how you are the only KC fan that came back to this thread.

You mean like that Nick Harris 4th round pick the Donks made in 2001 that never made the team?

Its time to nut up KC fans. I will bet you anything we get atleast two sacks vs this guy during the first game. Name your bet. Sigs or whatever just name it.

Define "against this guy"....What constitutes "against this guy"? Lay out your definition and I might take it.

There is no evidence he will be a good one, either.

There is no evidence of ANYTHING right now.

There is evidence of lots of reaching.

Indeed, but nobody started a "Sampson will be going to the ProBowl with KC!" thread.

"This guy" means this Sampson kid. I know threads are hard to follow but come on now. If any combo of Denver defenders sacks TG twice then I win, or we can do it another way if you like. I just don't think this Sampson guy keeps Denver from getting the QB.

Well, that would be par for the course for the Chiefs faithful around here.

Are you seriously thinking this kid is not going to get absolutely schooled early in the season? There are prototypical RT's who struggle severely with the speed of the NFL their entire first actual season. This kid has only sniffed the practice squad practices and you are not concerned???

LOL.

It warrants definition...Cause a blitz can come from the right side while he has his guy blocked and you might want to claim that as a sack against Sampson. If you want to purely base it on the man he is trying to block straight up then I am willing to take that bet. Odds are greatly in my favor as if he gets hurt of loses his job before that game I would win since he didn't give up 2 sacks. ;D

The had Welborne out there last year, and admitingly he wasn't stellar and we still functioned very well as an offense. Clearly he is playing the position better than Welborne or else they would move him back out there. I'm not too concerned at this point.

How can you be so stupid to ask if Trevor is still alive? lets not talk about dlines Chef fans seeing that yours has consistently been among the worst in football. Even q looks like LT against your sorry run defense. Well there is no doubt we had the worst D Line in the division but thankfully the Donks went out and bought the only Dline in the NFL worse than ours. :pfbbt:

The bet would be man on man not via a blitz and the putz would have to still be starting as well.

This brings up an interesting trivia question. Which team in the AFC-West had the most sacks last season?

Yeah. He didn't make our team. He's has steady employment in the NFL. What's your point?

Ok, simmer down.

1. Jordan Black did just great in that 45-17 buttwhipping.

2. Kevin Sampson is better than Jordan Black.

3. Yes, Sampson would be overmatched against Pryce.

4. Sampson won't be facing Pryce. Pryce is lining up at RDE this year, is he not? Roaf vs Pryce.

5. Just because RT was a weak link for a few games last year does not mean it will be again this year. Dave Szott was a 7th round draft pick and he turned out pretty good. The Chiefs have the best O-line coach in the business, I think he knows WTF he's doing.

That would be the same one that gave up 72 20+ pass plays, 14 yds a catch, and 15 more yards a game through the air all for NFL WORST. Live by the blitz and die by it too.

You know what really sucks? The effort that Den Failed to produce in that game last year versus the Chiefs. That is the One loss that is completely unexplainable.

One game failures do not make a team good or bad, but a sub .500 record does. That means you had more game failures than successes. I am glad KC got to improve their Worst in the NFL defensive totals against the Broncos last year simply because the team flat out did not show up right from the Kickoff. In the other five losses, you can point to football mistakes and errors. That loss was pure lack of effort against a division rival and totally unexcusable. The stupid MF's deserved to get their asses handed to them.

It also took them out of first place in the division and set the tone for the horrible performance @ SD. Nothing makes me more mad than guys not showing up, and that game was pure BS.

He also told the KC Star and radio stations that same day he plans on playing for 2 to 3 more years.

Therefore Don't believe NFL network.
