9:07 am. Disco,Pacino,Kayore and myself are on scene. The OrangeMane reporter Kaylore is at work. Those guys went in to report and I'm holding the bus.
We upgraded the stereo system last night and we were just told by Shanny via a security guard to please turn down the bus...lol ;D A nice melody of "WE WILL ROCK YOU" apparently was heard on the field. :yep: The Broncos fans are showing up in full force as the lot is full!
When I get a call from one of those guys I'll drop an update.
Kalore will be onboard after practice for a full update as well. :raiderssu

The real question is did Shanny say turn that music down, or Did he say go tell OF1 to turn it down. You should have gone with "Flight of Valkeryies," causing nothing goes better Napalm in the morning then Bronco's football.
Great Jobs thanks for all us in the real world.

Disco just called in. Short yardage running game practice just ended. Defense dominated. Special teams up now. Sauerbraun just rocked 10 punts in a row of 50-60 yards. He couldn't really talk much. He'll be back on the bus in 10 minutes with more details.

Hey guys! Kaylore here live from OF1. Today we saw fewer skill and possition drills and more scrimmages and faux game play. Lets get things started off.
General Formations: People wanted to know what formatins we're running so here you go. Base 4-3 for D, and lots of two tight end sets. They really like using on of those tight ends by moing them ito the slot or back to play full back after coverage is read. Jeb and Nate Jackson are the starting tight-ends, but they'll put different guys in to play different packages. Watts is the the third guy and he plays a lot of slot. LeSeur saw a lot of work at nickle with Roc and Foxworth coming in now and again.
Kannell is the second QB with BVP the third. Right now BVP is outperforming Kannell. Bradlee looked excellent especially during the scrimmages. He lofted this one pass right into a VERY small zone (and it was dropped by Stephen Alexander). He is very comfortable back there and seems to be really keeping his head on straight. I'll admit he's starting grow on me. He makes plays and moves around well. Accuracy and touch are just right.
Plummer: His hard count is excellent. Drew Mike Myers off-sides, and made several of the defenders flinch repeatedly. At one of the breaks they had to tell the Defense to watch the hard count because we was working it so well.
His accuracy is very good and there were a few times when he gunned the ball that it had more zip than I thought Plummer was capable of. Good accuracy and despite sketchy pass protection he escaped the rush regularly and on more than a few occations beat the blitz for decent gains. Our starters all looked good.
Danny Kannell: This guy has had at least two turnovers a practice. He just makes stupid choices. His deep ball is his strong point, but when you run a lot of quick inside routes like we do, he's going to get us killed. He lobbed over to Mike who had a delayed release and Walls was sitting in a short zone and just ran in front of the pass and took it. Another pass had walls and Lynch molesting a receiver I couldn't see and he threw it right at them. Just dumb mistakes.
Matt Mauk: Average. Nothing exciting, nothing terrible. Only took a few snaps and mostly thre underneath to his back.

They ran practice routes with tight ends and full backs on one side and the receivers on the other. They were working on the deep game which I thought was good considering both teams looked weaker against it.
Lelie and Rod looked good. The best at accuracy down field was Kannell and BVP. Plummer was alright, but needs to get a little better there. Plummer was the best at not throwing to where a corner could get to it, but unfortunately sometimes that meant the receiver couldn't either.
Jeb and Nate are the best in the pass game. Duke and Hape were ok but they need to square their shoulders more on certain breaks so as to make the defender commit to one side. The coaches were having them do a lot breaks and cutbacks. A lot of routes going to the corner and then either a button hook or twist to the inside. Pray to the heaves Leach never has to catch a pass for us. No agility and poor hands. Nate Jackson caught one with one hand. He has really good hands. Also his blocking was much better.
Center. Either Josh Sewell changed his mind, or someone wearing his number was out there playing Center today. Chris Myers is the second string center and his friends Randy and Susan said he was playing with a bruised ankle and some bad blisters on his feet. Nothing serious but it reminded me that there are little annoying things that can hurt game play but aren't listed as injuries. Chris looks good and Nalen looks good. Sewell or whoever 79 is now missed some snaps.

That player is the newly signed center Ben Nowland, he was just released from Washignton, I think he is from Auburn, solid player in college

Special teams.
They did some punt work today. No coverage or actual returns. They mostly worked on rush work and protection. Bradlee Van Pelt was one of the rushers playing across from the running back (I'm sure its for camp only).
Lech snapped quite a few balls pretty poorly, and Todd never missed a beat. He kicks so quickly that he has time to catch the off snap, adjust and kick it. One of the snaps hit the ground but Todd just picked it up and nailed it. He kicks deep and pretty high. He was actually better than when he was just practicing on the field turf.
Ernster can kick just as well, but he doesn't kick as fast. There were a couple of his punts that were almost blocked. His hang time is a shade better than Sauerbruns, but he's just not as consistant.
Handling returns: Charlie Adams, Cecil Sapp, Bailey, Rod, and Darrent Williams
*** Special report - Chukwurah is now wearing 54. I'm going to go buy my away Williams 55 jersey now. :militia:

Khan you are now far and away my favorite poster here. Loving this.
Hey, I've never been a BVP supporter but it's great to hear good things. I hope he keeps making me eat my words.
Glad to hear Nate Jackson is really stepping up. Maybe we had a sleeper Sharpe replacement the whole time last year and never even knew? I said "maybe"...

NAte was always in there last year catching balls pretty well. Im not surprised that he is doing well to be honest. He gained muscle and hasnt lost any speed, so id be kinda dissapointed if he wasnt beating lb's and safeties. But im excited hes doing well, hopefully he picks up on the blocking schemes quickly and we can then run a ton of 2 TE formations with him and Jeb.

The move of Nate to TE really sheds some light on the hesitation the FO showed when matching Jebs offer. This is something that has been in the works for a while Im guessing. Now if we could just get someone else that excells at longsnapping that isn't a total waste of a roster spot outside of that duty.

Still we brought him with a pretty good sized contract and I would think he would atleast be the better of the three at blocking.

General observations first. I just watched Disco man preaching on Channel 2. That is the funnies thing I've ever seen.
Our pass protection was much better but our run D totally overpowered the line in the rushing attack. They were really good at clogging the line and containing the cut back. Warren was a beast in the run game. He usually holds his ground and sometimes even gets some decent push back. Mike Anderson got pancaked by him on a run left side. IF they were able to get past the line, the holes were so small that by the time they forced their way through, there was a linebacker ther to just swallow them up. A lot of tackles were DJ Williams and someone Else: Dj Williams and Al Wilson, DJ Williams and Ian Gold, DJ Williams and Lenny Walls, DJ Williams and DJ Williams. :wiggle:
Given the small holes. Mike was the better back for much of the day. He really has that strength to grind it through and widden those holes. He pushes off and can make a little more out of not much.
Tatum doesn't break tackles very well. Mike outperformed him this practice. Mike seems to just have a little better vision or maybe it just seems that way because once he makes his choice he grind well enough to get the yards and make it look like a good decission.
Q and Maurice got pushed around. The D forced a fumble against Q which Ian recovered. The high amount of turnovers has me worried and excited.
Backs on the blitz. I mostly saw Anderson and Johnson in the pass game and they picked up the blitz every time. When the backs stayed in and blocked our protection was much better. I actually think the pads made it easier for the O-line because it gave them more to hang onto. Carlisle is starting at RG and he looked good. I actually think Tyson Clabo is playing the best of the guys I've seen.
The D bites on the playaction very seldom. Our ends are really good at playing the quarterback right on PA passes and they usually have had to dump it away. Dorsett Davis notched a pass. Al Wilson blitzed and broke through like a freight train. It was like an eight yard loss.
BVP nailed Todd Devoe on a nice long pass. Trailing behind him was Karl Paymah. I didn't get to watch the Defensive backs as much because the scrimmage time was mostly used for the starters and a little the second teams.
Next: Conversions, stops, and scoring drives.

Yes Khan these are excellent reports!! We need to get you a press pass and some assistants :) so you can start doing player interviews (like the Coleman one you did that rocked!!)
OrangeForceOne
07-31-2005, 11:05 AM
They ran probably all of their run plays. Only a few to the outside worked ok. The O converted almost none of their third down plays. The End around with Smith and Watts faked out the D pretty well, but other than that, none of the run plays got more than 3-5 yards. Lynch gets good penetration and seems unaffraid of puting his neck in there. He looks really crisp.
After several stops the whole offens huddled up and talked. Not sure what they said but it probably was something like, "We're getting owned, let's not anymore." Then they went out and the D line just snuffed them up. Anderson Got nailed by Myers and Warren for a loss. Then Jake had the starters huddle up. They had a big hoorah and wen out. They ran a screen play that Aaron hunt played perfectly and shut them down again.
It seemed hopless for the offense but pretty soon the O started picking up with Watts, Putz, Jackson and Mike making big catches. The run game was not as good as I expect but I'm betting that that has more to do with our D doing well than anyhting else because our rush game is never bad. It was also nice to see the pass game kick it up and get some decent protection.
Anyway, I'm hungry so I'm done for now. I'll answer your questions after I eat. See ya in a bit.

Fortunately it's still VERY early, or one might wonder if our offense will tank. I'd say the Offense will start to gell a little by the 2nd preseason game. Questions:
1. How is Brandon Browner looking?
2. Elaborate on this TE shift to FB after the D reads the formation...always wondered why we haven't run that before when Sharp was here.
3. Is Courtney Brown healthy? I read he's held to one practice a day.
4. Does Crenshaw get any reps at WR or in the kick return game? I like his dark horse chances.
5. Is Warren bustin' his tail on every play?

I read it as a positive sign our defense (and specifically, the D-line) will be awesome this year. The offense will start clicking soon enough...

Keep in mind, the offense looked pretty weak during camp and pre-season last year too. I think that is the price you pay for having to perform against an elite defense everyday.

We hear every year that the offense is behind the defense early on...though from the sound of these reports, the D does seem more dominant than we might expect. I hope you are correct. How nice would it be to Raven the AFC West this year?

I like the idea of 2 TE, I always have, but we really haven't had the capability since Shannon dumped on us for that fancy gig. An interview I saw with the Putz earlier, he looked supremely confident! That's half the battle. If Nate is looking good, we can go single back, double wide and really have a 4 WR set, (both Putz and Jackson are converted WR's, yet we will be able to defend against blitzing OLB's in the 3/4. I really like this concept against the 3/4 much better than that stupid 5 wide/empty backfield unless we are in a desperation two minute drill. If I see Pubiak trying that stupid 5 wide against the 3/4 I'm either going to get out the Model 12 or jump off a cliff. Maybe one then the other...
Thanks for the reports Khan, kudos to OF1 for representin'. Outstanding fans.

Hope that is the case, but in the HOF game last year our O looked very flat against WA. On the other hand WA did end up having an Elite D of their own. I know Plummer makes bad decisions time to time but he is a true leader on and off the field! Love him trying to rally the guys against the D, he really does shoulder the accountability for how the offense performs, I have never seen him point fingers. This is the year Jake go get that ring!!

Fortunately it's still VERY early, or one might wonder if our offense will tank. I'd say the Offense will start to gell a little by the 2nd preseason game. Questions:
1. How is Brandon Browner looking?
I didn't get a good look at him today. They had one of the entire fields roped off, so i couldn't see.
2. Elaborate on this TE shift to FB after the D reads the formation...always wondered why we haven't run that before when Sharp was here.
We ran it a lot last year and I'm thinking we wanted to use Sharpe to pull two D-backs to open other things up. Basically the Tight ends line up an ond goes into motion back into fullback either to help pick up a blitz, block for the run, or in a lot of the cases I saw it was a PA and he would fake a block and then release into a pass pattern in the zone somewhere.
3. Is Courtney Brown healthy? I read he's held to one practice a day. I've hardly seen him. I didn't see him today. I have no idea what his health is like.
4. Does Crenshaw get any reps at WR or in the kick return game? I like his dark horse chances.
Crenshaw showed some flashes on the friday morning practice. Since then I haven't really seen him too much. Today, as I said earlier, the wideouts and D-backs practiced away from me. I was in the endzone and the offense was lined up on the 50 with the receivers practicing going south and the TE's coming toward us, so I got a good look at the tight ends, but not the receivers.
5. Is Warren bustin' his tail on every play?
Yes.
And eveyone has it right. I was pretty apprehensive about the offense but its only the third day of training camp, and I'm happy about several things: I'm writing off our mediocre rushing attack to excellent defense, Our pass protection really improved when the pads gave the line something to grab, and Jake has been solid.
Worries: Danny Kannell, lack of depth at guard, long snapping.
Rookies to watch:
Chris Myers: Played banged up and whether by default or not, is playing the second team. Looks good - his balance is really good and he seems to read the line well.
Dominique Foxworth: I actually saw him get burned a little today, but it was by Rod Smith so that's ok. Generally he has been doing very well.
Watch for Walls, Roc, and both Jackson and Putz. All these guys look great and are getting better. Walls is playing like a man in a contract year...wait a minute...he is in a contract year. ;)

Browns had a nice big beer tent for their practice, 16 oz. for 3 bucks, figured I might as well drink a few if I'm going to sit through a Browns practice. They did look pretty good though, aside from their QB's(Dilfer was the only decent one, the others could not hit their WR's at all), and former Bronco Reuben Droughns looked very good out there(kind wish we had him back now after seeing his play yesterday.)

I guess I should clarify. OF1 and I are sepperate entities. OF1 crew Comprises Meck77 as Captain, Discoman, Anthony Pacino as crewmen, and BlueDamsel as helper/babe. They graciously let me eat their food and use their computer so I can type directly from camp.
I'll be at most of the AM practices. They're on their own schedule. I actually might miss saturday. We have an early morning meeting, but I'll see if I can get off work.

Wow! Amazing reports, guys...Thank you so much!!!!
I like Mike's chances. He is the type of back we need to grind out all the yards and get us over the top.
Third day only, so we'll see who wins this RB battle!

Someone start a "Get Disco a new pair of shades fund"....lol Those are some 99cent shades I picked up a a party store before the Raider game last year.
It was crazy weather today. We had a freakin mini tornado take one of our EZ ups in the sky today. It was early in the afternoon before you got there Bronx. The darn thing was atleast 10 feet in the air at one point. Then later in the day a gust of wind almost launched one over the bus. I think Bronx caught it?
Of1 got some new scratches today for sure. No biggie but I learned my lesson. Anchor those things down.
Hey Pat Bowlen can you pave the fan lot it's a freakin gravel dirt mess! lol
