This is what so many of us here in Colorado wanted. Now Paul can develop at DU for one or two more years and move on up I-25 to the Pepsi Center and the Avs.

Colorado traded its first round pick to the Washington Capitals for two more second round picks, giving the Avs 4 second rounders in this draft.

They selected U.S. National Team member Ryan Stoa with their first second rounder, 34th overall. Then Statsny was picked 44th overall. The Avs still have the 47th and 52nd picks this round.

To complete their second round prospect haul, Colorado drafted a FADERPROOF original Ohio State Buckeye Tom Fritsche with the 47th overall pick and Chris Durand from Seattle of the Western Hockey League with the 52nd overall pick.

The Avs added 4 forwards to their system, including 3 centers. I doubt this is a sign in any way of what they are going to do with Forsberg, at least I hope not. I really like what they did in getting Statsny and Fritsche, who I've seen a lot of in the past year. I'm not familiar with Stoa or Durand, but I'm sure they're solid prospects. With the news that the Avs signed 2003 draftee Brad Richardson and now these 4 picks, at least we're strengthening the prospect depth that had been depleted by trades in the past few years.

Also of note is that incoming DU defensive recruit T.J. Fast was selected by the Los Angeles Kings at the end of the second round.

Good pick. Statsny is a proven winner and I think he will fit in when he joins the team.

I've been celebrating this pick since it was made. !Booya!Pierre and the scouts granted you your wish.

The Avs drafted another college center, this time T. J. Hensick from Michigan, with their 3rd round selection. I guess it's kind of interesting that we picked guys from Ohio State and Michigan.

So far this has been a college, North American, center heavy draft for Colorado. I really like the Statsny, Fritsche, and Hensick picks. Of course, I have never seen the other two kids we drafted or any European players play, so I'm obviously biased towards American college kids. Pierre must have felt that we were weak up front in prospects. It's not like we have a treasure trove of defensive prospects, either.

They also took Tom Fritsche from Ohio State (DF will like that). 4 of the Avs first 5 picks were all collegiate players.

Stoa-Minnesota
Stastny-Denver
Fritsche-Ohio State
Hensick-Michigan

The college season just got even more interesting. :yep:

Hopefully, Paul Stastny will be a chip off the old block.
