I already loved Montana politics, but after spending a couple days here, I have decided that I love Montana itself. Gorgeous beyond belief, this place is a true paradise. Perhaps the most beautiful place I've visited in this country.
One interesting view of the political process from a fiercely anti-Bush independent, a cranky retired scientist who once worked for the Defense Department:
The Democrats make me ashamed to be an American.
The Republicans make me ashamed to be a human being.
He was an equal opportunity hater, which I can respect. It sometimes takes work not to be jaded with politics, and this guy had been around for a while.
We have talked to a ton of Montana Democrats (including some elected officials), and there's no doubt these are a progressive bunch -- economic populists unafraid to battle undue corporate influence in politics and in people's lives.
Of course, when campaign finance rules limit donations to $130, it's easy for MT Ddems to refuse PAC money and the strings that come attached. And hence, they end up standing for something. There are real lessons to be learned here..........
Seems Montana Democrats are making a movment in the democratic party ...
