Per ESPN radio citing Milwaulkee Journal, Barry Alvarez will step down at the end of the year. Sounds as though he will stay as AD and the DC will be the new coach.

I always admired Alvarez for doing the two grueling jobs at once, but its the best thing for the program in the long run. Short-term, its a big blow to Wisconsin's recruiting efforts.

Wonder the details on why he is stepping down as Head Coach, surprising nonetheless.

I can't stand Wisconsin, other than Michigan and maybe Iowa, they are my most hated college team out there. They're only ones that seem to be able to come into the Horseshoe and beat the Buckeyes regularly and no matter if it's in the shoe or at Camp Randall, they bring it like it's the championship game against Ohio State.

That being said, Barry Alvalrez is a great coach and I respect him a lot. The Badgers have never ben able to recruit like OSU, MIchigan, Penn State, or Iowa but they somehow always find themselves in the Big 10 mix for the title.

Him staying AD makes me think that it's more of a personal decision than any medical problems that he might be having, that is a good sign at least.

He is getting up there in age and I believe he has had some health issues in the past. Maybe he just needs to slow down. I do know he is highly thought of by the UW academic staff.

I'd rather have him back in Manhattan... :(

Oh well. Good luck with the job, Brett...
