Ted Johnson Announces His Retirement

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - New England Patriots linebacker Ted Johnson has informed the team of his decision to retire, ending his NFL career after 10 seasons with the Patriots. He offered the following statement to formally announce his decision.

"It is with deep regret that I have decided to retire from football. The decision was not an easy one, but life sometimes has a timetable all its own. I can no longer ignore the severe short- and long-term complications of the concussive head injuries I have sustained over the years.

There is an unsubstantiated report that he was not medically cleared to play ...so he chose retirement instead.

That would explain the surprise news and timing.

It's unfortunate that attrition has the potential to dismantle that team this year. I am going to be pissed when people point to the losses of Weis, Crennel, Law, Bruschi, Johnson, Andruzzi, Givens, etc. when Denver finally beats these guys in the Playoffs :homer:

We tried that road route the last two years Pats, I'm thinking "Horrible investment funds @ Mile High" this year for the Playoffs :charge:

Even with our recent success I wouldn't be happy about having to go to Denver in Dec/Jan.

We both know that is true.

He's even told me he could help with tickets and other arrangements if I was ever able to get out there.

Meck rocks. In fact, I believe he was the one that told me about this place. We "met" on a Rams board about 3 years ago.

Linebacker U.? You guys don't hold a candle to Ohio State and their LB's.

Then again, we could be also called Running Back U. and defensive back U., so I guess I can let Linebacker U. slide to another college team.

Sad news on Ted Johnson, he was a valuable leader to the Pats.

The Pats really need MLBs now though. Maybe we should see what they'd give for Pierce. :) I know we won't get a 2nd out of him, but I'm sure something could be worked out that would help both teams. Couple of smart, reasonable F.O.s.

Attrition both in coaches and players is going to knock them off the perch this year.

Meck and that crazy bus are just plain sick. Camping out tonight to see the first full day of camp? When he bought that thing, I figured it would be your basic Greyhound type bus, (if that isn't enough to start), but I never would of dreamed it would be a word inlayed taj mahal complete with bamboo floors, a stipper pole on the bar, on board barbeque, generator, dual air and every technical toy imaginable. Plus, I understand he's a gracious host. What a fan. Even more amazing is the stuff he places outside. I heard he's going to install a built in TV in one of the luggage bays as well.
