This is just a public service announcement.
My sister sent this email this morning. Apparently radio stations are advocating this be something people consider. Hey, it's easy enough and you never know when you might be the person needing help.
This is a brilliant idea. Could even have an ICE-1, ICE-2, etc in case the first ICE is not available. Read on . . .
Useful Information.......
A campaign encouraging people to enter an emergency contact number in their mobile phone's memory under the heading ICE (In Case of Emergency), has rapidly spread throughout the world as a particular consequence of last week's terrorist attacks in London.
Originally established as a nation-wide campaign in the UK, ICE allows paramedics or police to be able to contact a designated relative /next-of-kin in an emergency situation.
The idea is the brainchild of East Anglian Ambulance Service paramedic Bob Brotchie and was launched in May this year. Bob, 41, who has been a paramedic for 13 years, said: "I was reflecting on some of the calls I've attended at the roadside where I had to look through the mobile phone contacts struggling for information on a shocked or injured person. Almost
everyone carries a mobile phone now, and with ICE we'd know immediately who to contact and what number to ring. The person may even know of their medical history."
By adopting the ICE advice, your mobile will help the rescue services quickly contact a friend or relative - which could be vital in a life or death situation. It only takes a few seconds to do, and it could easily help save your life. Why not put ICE in your phone now? Simply select a new contact in your phone book, enter the word 'ICE' and the number of the
person you wish to be contacted.

Heard this last week. Always a good idea to have emergency contacts in your possession. Should also include your family doctor who will know your medical history in case of emergency.

I guess I should be like Patrick Swazy (sp?) in Road House and keep a folder with me at all my previous injuries, surgeries, medications, etc.

Currently it is possible to keep your entire medical history on line so that the info is available when you change/add a doctor or have an emergency. There is a company in California doing it. The big problem is that if you are in an emergency situation the info is not accessible due to HIPPA and other privacy laws. Having your prescription information, allergies and previous medical history can be very important in an emergency situation. Unfortuately the privacy issue is one of those "double edged swords".

You must have a lot of people who think there's a good chance you are going to need emergency services...

Not sure about the ICE idea, I mean, it's a fantastic idea & I did read that the Chinese were considering micro-chip ID implants for it's citizens as a means to identify everyone in the event of misadventure...but that's a bit too much Big Brother for my blood.
I only ask one thing in the event I somehow end up on a bus with one of these bomber bastards
...and that is, as they collect the forensic evidence they're baffled by the fact there seem to be a pair hands fused to the bombers neck
That's me

And me... but 11 other people didn't also send it to me, so it's all good. Ha!
Seriously, though... if emergency personnel would recognize "ICE" before "Hubby" or "Mom" in my cell phone's list of numbers, something's wrong with 'em. :P

Ha! Ya know...that's what I thought after the fact too...I have "Parents" in mine.
I thought about that, too...but my parents live in Florida so sometimes they're not the best person to contact in case of emergency.
I sent this to all of my friends and family...I think it is a great idea & if everyone knew to look for "ICE" first, they might not waste precious minutes trying to figure out which grandma, aunt, uncle, friend they need to call.
Good idea T- 13
ICE is in my phone already - trouble is it's my hit man.
