Anybody have them? I just heard no more OT games.

I'm not 100% on it, but there will still be 4 on 4 OT, followed by 3 minutes of 3 on 3 and then a shootout if the game is still tied.
The red line is being removed.
Tag up offsides is back.
The net is being moved back to where it was before they moved it out.
Goalies will be limited as far as where they can handle the puck behind the net.
Goalie pads will be cut down a bit.
That's what I gathered during the press conference anyway.

The red line rule is kinda stupid... They need to go to internatiol icing rules.

I guess there's no 3 on 3, OT will proceed as before with 4 on 4 followed by a shootout.
Here's the complete rundown of rule changes.

The thing I cant stand about shootous is that it doesent showcase definsive talent.
The value of guys like Karlis Skrastins and Ossi Vaananen is written off because they cant score. But these guys are incredibly underrated because of what they bring to the table. I think a shootout would only perpetuate that.
And what about guys like Hinote, another fantastic hockey player who doesent really score.
It doesent seem fair, because a lot of teams dont really have scorers and are built around grinders, they play good defense, and get by offensively. A team like that would be awful for a shootout.

I liked the NHL the way it was before the lockout. The problem is, no-one else did.

The one that's not getting a lot of mention but is going to be pretty crucial is the new rule that a team that ices the puck can't make a line change before the next faceoff.
Teams that get trapped in their own zone are going to have to think twice about icing the puck if the opposition gets to send fresh players onto the ice while their dog tired line has to stay out there for a defensive zone draw.
Less icings are a good thing. Along with the legalization of two line passes and the reinstatement of tag up offsides, the game should have less whistles and more flow to it.

That's kind of the point. The league wants teams to get away from building around grinders and showcase the skill players.
Grinders will always have their place in the game, but when teams like Minnesota basically feature a full squad of them and suck the life out of the game, something has to be done.

It's not suppose to, it's suppose to decide the winner.

It's why you need to have Forsberg and Sakic.

The trap is what turned me off aka (the devils) the elimination of the red line will end the trap as we know it (they won't be able to set it up fast enough. Don't get me wrong nothing makes me more happy to see the avs weather a massive offensive barrage but with the new rules we are going to get to see some serious offence.

There's a difference between being a solid defensive team and being a trap team. The Avalanche have historically been solid defensively, as have Detroit. Both of those teams managed to be skilled & entertaining while not compromising the defensive end.
Teams like New Jersey & Minnesota are trap teams. They sit back, they clog the neutral zone, they don't allow any flow to the game, they don't generate much offense of their own and they suck the life right out of the game.
If these new rules help to obliterate the trap teams, I'll be grateful.

It will be interesting to see what effect the elimination of the 2-line offside pass will have on offense. I don't think it will have the offensive impact many are expecting. Defenseman are going to stay back and play more conservatively, not allowing long, easy breakout passes.
I'm really glad the competition committee didn't add no-touch icing. That's the one rule I don't like about college and international hockey; there are just too many icings where the offending team would have been the first to touch the puck and thus cancel out the icing. I also like that linesmen will have more discretion on when to wave off icing.
I'm not sure if the fighting instigator rule has been taken out. I guess it is only valid in the final five minutes of the game.

I am actually a fan of the trap, but i also like scoring as well. I think this change will lead to some more scoring but it wont kill off the trap. You still gotta hit tape to tape passes before the whole defense collapses on you once they force you to the boards.

I like strategy. I like defenses where you actually work together and make reads to close off passing options for the offense instead of just going where your man goes or covering an individual zone. Yeah its boring but interesting. There is a 1-3-1 system out there that i saw in college hockey a few times that is even more effective than the 1-2-2 trap.
But i do like goals too, i did get a little tired of 2-1 and 3-2 games all the time.

It's still valid for the entire game, only now if you get an instigator in the last five minutes of a game, it comes with an automatic ejection and one game suspension. They're trying to dissuade teams from gooning it up in the final minutes of a blowout.

Don't get me started on Brodeur. Any goaltender not named Dan Cloutier could put up the same numbers are Brodeur playing behind that Dullvilles trap team. Not too hard to keep the GAA down when you're seeing less than 20 shots per night (as Tred mentioned).

well im a devils fan so im a bit biased but brodeur was 6th in the league in shots faced and in saves so its not like the guy doesnt see his share of action.
The neutral zone defense for the devils has not been the same as the old days as they have had guys come and go but I agree it can get dull. Im excited to see how they adjust to the new offensive rules.
Stevens from what ive heard is close to calling it quits, im more concerned with being able to keep neidermayer. He will most likely get cut due to the salary reductions and they will ahve to work a new contract.

The Devils will also have their hands full re-signing Scott Niedermayer. Word has it that he'll be a highly sought after UFA.
