PACMAN GONE WILD, PART FOUR?
Our sources tell us that there's talk in league circles of a fresh police investigation regarding Pacman Jones based on a recent incident in Atlanta.
We need to be clear on this. The story, for now, isn't that Pacman actually did anything to merit investigation. Instead, a source in Atlanta tells us that authorities are looking into something that might, or might not, result in a fresh batch of trouble for the sixth overall pick in the draft.
We're also told that the Titans have been apprised of this latest issue regarding Jones, and that his agent, Michael Huyghue, has told the team that Jones has been in Jacksonville -- which, if true, should put the matter to rest.

The Titans are still reeling from last week's arrest of Jones on charges of assault and vandalism, which was the third off-field incident involving Jones since he was drafted by the team in April. G.M. Floyd Reese recently said that Jones' contract will be structured to protect the team against additional problems.
Several readers have aksed us if the Titans are permitted under NFL rules to cut the cord on Jones. Per NFL spokesman Steve Alic, a team can renounce its rights to an unsigned draft pick at any time. The player then would go into the waiver system. If not claimed, he would become a free agent.
The prevailing thought among the league insiders with whom we have spoken is that the Titans would be more likely to not sign Jones and trade his rights in early 2006 for a low-round pick. As we see it, however, the team at some point needs to unload Jones, if he continues to put himself in the wrong places at the wrong times. Regardless of whether he's actually guilty of any crimes, his judgment leaves much to be desired

If there truly is another incident here, this has to be some kind of record. 4 incidents before training camp for an NFL rookie. If this had been a 6th rounder, he'd be gone after incident no. 2 at latest.

Nope i dont have any info re: whether they are planning some kind of release or trade. I think the investment in terms of the picks value and his own value as a player is just too great to cut him altogether almost no matter what he has done unless it just becomes completely unbearable. But as PFT noted a few days ago in citing a column, Floyd Reese and Fisher are openly stating that in the contract there are going to be all sorts of special behavior clauses more restrictive than the standard contract. Should be interesting to see how his agent haggles about it.

It never fails to amaze me how stupid these clowns act. He's got the world by the tail and managed to screw it all up before he ever stepped on the field. At least Big Mo hasn't screwed up again...yet...I think he's going to be highly motivated...call it a gut feeling. It's a faded memory, but I remember he was a total phenom as a true freshman at OSU. I would almost call this a redshirt year for him to learn the offense, (even tho RB is pretty instictive, and he allready has very good instincts), get in top condition and learn some maturity by being around leaders like Rod Smith ect.

At the time they picked him up, Carter was considered the best CB in the game. There were minor warning signs going into it, but the talent was way too much to overlook. Look at some of the articles from the summer of '99. Everyone in the league thought Denver was making a great, fairly risk free move.
Carter at least had 3 or 4 probowls under his belt when we signed him. Pac Man hasn't even proven he can play in the NFL yet and he's already killing his stock.

Wow.
That's some great revisionist history. I don't have to look up anything because I was there. Carter's gun possession and drug charges were "minor warning signs" to you? How about the time he spent in jail? How about the fact that the Broncos had to move his psychiatrist to Denver to keep him stable?
"Everyone in the league thought Denver was making a great, fairly risk free move."
Brain dead homers applauded that move. Nobody else. Most of us remembered the filthy cheap shot against Lionel Washington and wanted no part of that piece of trash.
The Dale Carter signing was early proof that character issues mean nothing to Shanahan, regardless of all the lip service the Broncos provide otherwise. I still don't think they've fully exorcised Carter's negative presence from the lockerroom. We've still got a lot of quitters on this team.
Being close to WVU and having a few contacts, I can say this with all honesty. Pac-Man is a hood. He's always been in and around trouble. His crew of friends are trouble and in this case it's those friends that have lead to this current case.
Pac-man hasn't signed a deal yet. But he has purchased a new home and car for his mother and is spending cash (agent advance) like it's water.
Pac has women issues. They are his weakness and he treats them like crap. Eventually this will be his downfall.

As far as Dale Cater goes, I knew the minute he signed it was the start of the end. He was the first rock that started this current slide.

Pac Man is an unsigned rookie but there is already talk about placing him into the NFL drug testing program. This guy is f_cked.
Pacman's woes may get worse
Rookie's arrest might lead to NFL sanctions
By PAUL KUHARSKY
Staff Writer
Although unsigned rookies are not part of the NFL's drug testing program, the league could find cause to test Titans first-round draft pick Pacman Jones, a league official confirmed yesterday.
Jones' involvement in two recent incidents in which marijuana was present or allegedly present could be enough to bring the league's substance abuse policy into play, according to NFL spokesman Steve Alic.
"A player who is involved in any type of incident involving drugs or alcohol can be evaluated and entered into the program," Alic said yesterday.
Jones is facing two misdemeanor assault charges and a felony vandalism charge after an early morning incident Wednesday at an East Nashville nightclub.
The manager of the nightclub, Robert Gaddy, pressed two of the charges and said the alleged incident began when he asked three members of Jones' party to leave when he encountered them smoking marijuana.
Gaddy said Jones was not smoking marijuana.
In a June 8 incident when two of Jones' friends would not check out of a room at the Regal Maxwell House hotel in MetroCenter, Jones was in the room with them when police entered.
Police smelled marijuana and found it when they were let into the room by hotel security after the occupants did not respond to inquiries.
Lewis Kuffuor, 21, of Atlanta, claimed responsibility for the marijuana and pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor possession charge on June 22.
Jones told police: "Lewis had the weed."
Players are governed by the league's personal conduct policy as soon as they are drafted, which means a conviction or guilty plea by Jones likely would result in a suspension and/or fine by Commissioner Paul Tagliabue.
Rookies who are invited to the league's scouting combine each February are tested there. Jones participated in the combine this year.
A positive drug test at the combine immediately places a player into the confidential league program.
A team deciding whether to draft the player would not know of the positive test from the league.
Once a player is under contract, he is subject to year-round testing.
First-time violators are entered into the league's substance abuse program, but their status is not made known to their team.
A second violation in the form of a positive test or a missed test would result in a four-game suspension.
A Titans official said the team cannot comment on anything pertaining to the substance abuse program.

No big bucks for Jones.
Arrest likely to cost Jones
Will be factor in future negotiations
By PAUL KUHARSKY
Staff Writer
When it comes time for the Titans to show Pacman Jones the money, it's unlikely he's going to see as much as he'd hoped.
Jones' legal issues clearly will factor into contract negotiations between his agent, Michael Huyghue, and Titans General Manager Floyd Reese and Steve Underwood, the team's general counsel.
Both the Titans and Huyghue want Jones, the team's highest draft pick since 1995, to report to camp on time because the cornerback is expected to be a key member of a revamped defense.
However, Jones' settlement hearing on two charges of assault and one of vandalism isn't scheduled until Aug. 11. Training camp begins July 29.
Rookie contracts typically rely on two pieces of context — what players above and below them in the same draft receive and what players drafted in the same spot received in previous years.
Jones was the sixth overall selection in April.
The sixth pick in 2004, Cleveland tight end Kellen Winslow, signed a six-year, $40 million contract with $16.5 million guaranteed, though he will repay some of the money because he violated contract terms when he was involved in a motorcycle accident.
Defensive tackle Johnathan Sullivan was the sixth pick in 2003, going to New Orleans. After a six-day holdout, Sullivan signed a $19 million deal with $11.4 million in guaranteed bonuses. The contract was technically for seven years, but the final two were scratched when a clause regarding playing time kicked in.
Some players have had legal issues that affected their rookie contracts, and the Titans will probably look for safety nets that cover them should Jones get into further trouble.
In 1996, the St. Louis Rams drafted Nebraska running back Lawrence Phillips sixth overall even though he was on one-year probation for misdemeanor assault of a former girlfriend. Arrested on a drunken-driving charge in June 1996, the contract Phillips agreed to on July 30, 1996, included no signing bonus.
In 2001, the Oakland Raiders had leverage beyond the norm with a first-round pick when negotiating with kicker Sebastian Janikowski.
He was facing charges of possession of GHB, the "date rape drug," when he signed a five-year, $6 million contract in July 2001. The deal left the Raiders several outs that would have saved them money had he gotten into further trouble and missed games.
Once Jones signs, he could wind up surrendering some money if a guilty plea or a conviction ends his case.
Players are paid their base salaries in 17 weekly installments during the season.
A suspended player loses 1/17th of his base salary for every game he misses.
Commissioner Paul Tagliabue could also fine Jones if he's not exonerated.

It really amazes me when you consider he wasn't anywhere near a runway best player on the board. If he were a Champ Bailey like prospect coming out of UGA and the next best CB in the draft was a 2nd round type talent then I could understand need screwing up their sanity but this cat was the 3rd best CB on most peoples boards on talent alone. Throw in the character issues and the clown shouldn't have been on anyone's board prior to the 7th round.

I'm sure some lazy football columnists decided that Mike Shanahan, coming off back to back championships, could do no wrong in the summer of 1999. The same way every move Belicheck makes is praised right now. I don't think that viewpoint represented everyone's opinion, though.
Think back to the actual negotiations for Dale Carter. Remember who we were bidding against for his services? It wasn't another team in the League, it was the Chiefs. Carl Peterson had Shanny bidding against himself by the end of that deal. He did the same thing to him with Brian Griese a year later. King Carl might be a douche, but he had Mike's number for awhile there.

Sorry, couldn't find one. He's a picture of him getting ready to beat down a stripper.
