Exciting match. Poor calls by the refs though. Those Hondos were making alot of sliding tackles, taking out our guys, and there were no frigin calls. US fought hard in the second half tying the match and winning in the final seconds. The first half I was thinking we can't go out like that.

E. RUTHERFORD, N.J. (July 21) - In their third-ever Gold Cup meeting with Honduras, the U.S. MNT needed every second of the match to pull out a dramatic 2-1 victory Thursday night at Giants Stadium. Oguchi Onyewu's header in the dying seconds completed the comeback, just minutes after John O'Brien had tied the score. USA will face the winner of Colombia vs. Panama in Sunday's CONCACAF Gold Cup final.

Yeah, those latin teams are pretty brutal. They usually injure someone in the game.

Honduras was looking good in the tourney having beat Columbia and Costa Rica...its a good thing we were able to get that gutsy win.

I'm glad to see John O'Brien in blues again. its been too long. That guys a heck of a midfielder.

Boy, our Natl. squad boys looked exhausted during that whole game. They had some great chances to score (mainly Beasley), but shanked all of them.

It was a tight game that's for sure nobody wanted to make any mistakes but they sure nailed em in the shootout,on another note the U-21 WNT won another nordic up as well.Good show all around for the US!

was anyone else overly impressed w/ Qaranta in the gold cup final? i think he is really starting to hit his stride! he seemed unstoppable running at opponents w/ the ball. anyone else have insight? i also think Dempsey is a very strong player on the ball - really hard to knock off/out of the play. i'm excited for this new crop.

Quaranta looked like a good option as an attacking midfielder to me. Brad Davis played some really creative balls from the left side and has a monstrous left foot. I was impressed by both of those guys.

Dempsey needs to get up to game speed and get his head up when he's dribbling. Dempsey is also having trouble winning headers in the box. He's tall enough to get most of those. He looks good at times and should gain confidence.

I also like Carlos Bocanegra, Cherundolo, Gibbs, Jonny Walker, Convey, and Onyewu.

I really like some of the youngsters that are coming up in the youth right now. Quentin Westberg is a great athletic keeper. Top flight. Typical US pro keeper. He'll play in Europe (I think that he has already signed a contract in France). Eddie Gaven is surprisingly controlled and heady as a forward. He is a smart player. Jonathan Spector is a big/strong/fast young center back that dominates the air and is a great man defender. He is playing on Man U.'s U18 development squad. Zak Whitbread is another impressive young defender. He's a tall kid with speed and good control. I think that he plays for the Newcastle Utd. developmental team. I could be wrong there, but I know that he is in Europe. Eddie Johnson has some real promise as a striker. He has some back-to-the goal skills and doesnt need much time to score. He can also score with his head. Then there is Freddy Adu of course. I have seen this kid in person several times and in short, he is an amazing talent. Uncanny foot skills and nearly as fast as Beasley. He is also extremely creative and has a natural feel for the flow of the game. His field vision and anticipation of openings and runs is as good as it gets. His ceiling is waaaayyyy high. Great touch, great passer, great soccer brain, etc. He just needs to get his head on straight and grow into the type of international star that he is capable of being.

These guys should help comprise the core of the pool for the next cup after Germany.
