Terrell Owens the Eagles' reluctant receiver is reaching for the sky, invoking
Jesus in his contract squabble. Asked about his contract problem with the
Eagles, Owens didn't invoke the name of Curt Flood or even NFL free-agency
pioneer Reggie White. He went right over their heads. Waaaay over. "At the
end of the day," Owens told the Miami Herald's Jason Cole, "I don't
have to worry about what people think of me, whether they hate me or not. People
hated on Jesus. They threw stones at him and tried to kill him, so how can I
complain or worry about what people think?"

The Chiefs upcoming season will be billed as the Dick Vermeil farewell tour,
whether the Chiefs coach likes it or not. Hell like the theme a lot better if
the season becomes a victory tour, too. Vermeil, as you might expect, doesnt
want his coaching future to become an issue. Coaches dont like distractions,
especially when they are the distractions. We havent discussed Dick Vermeil
coming to the end of his career, the coach said recently. If we dont win, I
should leave. If we win, then Ill have to decide. Will Vermeils status affect
the Chiefs one way or another? Its hard to say. Players whove been with him
through much of his stint in Kansas City would love to send him out a winner. I
prematurely left one team after the 1999 season, Vermeil said. I dont want to
do it again.

The Bucs are $1.4-million under the salary cap and need about $6-million for the
rookie salary pool. Chief among players expected to go is tackle Todd Steussie,
who did not participate in the final two weeks of voluntary workouts and was
asked not to attend the Bucs' mandatory minicamp. But with right tackle Kenyatta
Walker still recovering from a knee injury and several rookie offensive linemen
unsigned, the Bucs might consider keeping Steussie as a safeguard if he agrees
to restructure his contract, which would pay him $2-million in base salary this
year. "There's a chance (he'll be back)," Allen said of Steussie.
"I'm in dialogues with his representative. Heav: What a mess this
organization has become.

With training camp less than two weeks away, Cowboys defensive end Greg Ellis
wants to clear the air. He said any characterizations about him being
disgruntled about his place on the team because of the switch to the 3-4
defense, or him having a problem with Cowboys coach Bill Parcells because of a
heated discussion between the two in June are off-base. Ellis said he has been
assured by Parcells and owner Jerry Jones that he remains a big part of the
Cowboys' plans.

The Vikings are considering adding a veteran running back and have been in
contact with the agent for running back Eddie George, who saw limited action
with the Dallas Cowboys last season, rushing for 432 yards on 132 carries.

Brian Levy, who represents former Titans safety Lance Schulters, a free agent,
said nothing has changed in discussions with the Dolphins. "We'll see what
happens this week," Levy said.

During Mini camp both Keyshawn Johnson and Terry Glenn lead the way for the
Cowboys recievers once again, both having fully recovered from foot injuries
suffered last season.

The Green Bay Packers blew $625,000 in signing bonus last year on quarterback
Tim Couch, but a favorable settlement this spring of his grievance against the
team made the failed experiment at least a little more palatable. In fact, the
Packers have an additional $214,206 under their adjusted salary cap of $86.227
million for 2005 after the two sides agreed to settle Couch's grievance shortly
before it was to be resolved through arbitration. Under National Football League
rules, the Packers immediately were forced to count 50% of the player's base
salary, which in Couch's case was $625,000, upon receipt of the grievance. Thus,
when the grievance was filed Sept. 24, the Packers were charged $312,500 against
their cap. The $214,206 was added to the Packers' cap room this year as a credit
for the hit they were forced to absorb in 2004. Terms of the settlement are
confidential. It is believed, however, that Couch received just under $100,000
as his part of the settlement.

Tight end Rickey Dudley, who originally came to the Raiders as a highly touted
ninth overall selection of the 1996 draft, rejoined the team Tuesday in a much
different role -- signed as a free agent hoping to earn a spot near the bottom
of the depth chart.

The Vikings jumpstarted negotiations with their draft picks Tuesday by meeting
at Winter Park with the agent for defensive end Erasmus James, the second of
their two first-round draft picks. Although no deal is imminent, the sides laid
important groundwork for what promises to be a frenzy of agreements around the
NFL next week. Agent Ethan Locke met with Rob Brzezinski, vice president of
football operations, during an afternoon session. The sides will continue
discussions by phone, and the team hopes to have James in uniform for the first
practice of training camp on July 30.

Theres been quite a lag in negotiations for the Dolphins and agent Todd France,
who represents Ronnie Brown. That said, having a running back report to camp on
time is not usually a significant issue, and the Dolphins have the benefit of an
extra exhibition game this season because they are playing in the Hall of Fame
game Aug. 8 in Canton, Ohio. As for Ricky Williams, Steinberg said he weighs
more than 215 pounds. Williams has been supervised by the Dolphins in his
workouts since returning to South Florida, although he has not been allowed to
work out at the team facility.

If things go as planned, Travis Henry will not only be a Tennessee Titan for the
current season, but could also be a long-term solution at running back as well.
Henry, 26, agreed to a four-year contract extension that could keep him in
Tennessee through the 2009 season. Neither Titans general manager Floyd Reese
nor Henrys agent Hadley Englehard provided financial details of the extension,
but Reese did say much of the deal will be tied to performance. Theres a fair
amount of incentives in the deal, Reese said. It all depends on how well he
performs as to how much hell earn.

Insiders say don't be surprised if rookie Antonio Perkins and little-used
veteran C.J. Jones give longtime Browns punt returner Dennis Northcutt a battle
for the returning job - putting more pressure on Northcutt to put up big numbers
as a receiver and live up to his healthy salary.

Tedy Bruschi said from the beginning he would take his time. He wasn't lying.
The official reporting date for Patriots veterans is now eight days away, and
Bruschi, who is five months removed from suffering a mild stroke, has yet to
declare his intentions for the upcoming season. There are several options
available to the Patriots and their heart-and-soul inside linebacker. But as
training camp draws near, observers close to the situation see Bruschi's
inclusion on the 80-man active roster on July 28 as one of the most unlikely.
One scenario under consideration involves placing Bruschi on the physically
unable to perform list or the non-football injury list, both of which would
allow he and the Pats to put off the decision until well into the season. Heav:
Is it me or is any stroke not mild? 3 rings, solid career, beautiful wife and 3
kids, maybe it's time to walk away.

Sports agent Drew Rosenhaus went from superhero worshiper to hero all by himself
yesterday. Rosenhaus, a collector of superhero figurines who represents such
clients as Eagles wide receiver Terrell Owens, helped save a 3-year-old boy from
drowning in a kiddie pool at the Grand Floridian hotel at Walt Disney World in
Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Rosenhaus, who worked as a lifeguard in college,
performed CPR to revive the boy, who had stopped breathing for about two
minutes. "Very much so," said Cpl. Carlos Torres of the Orange County
Sheriff's Office when asked if Rosenhaus' efforts could be called heroic.
"If not for his quick response, the child probably would not have made
it." Torres said the boy, Maurice Garrett of Chicago, was in stable
condition at Orange County Regional Hospital in Orlando after paramedics
transferred him there.

Because of an overactive thyroid, Cedric Houston's metabolism is stuck in fifth
gear even when he downshifts to first. His hyperthyroidism was uncovered during
a physical examination at the N.F.L. combine in Indianapolis in February. When
doctors at the combine sat Houston down and delivered the diagnosis, he was
thrown for a loss. "What's a thyroid?" he asked. Houston, 23, has
since schooled himself on the body's regulatory center. And the Jets studied a
scouting report on Houston from their medical staff before selecting him in the
sixth round of the draft, with the 182nd pick over all. It was a relief, Houston
said, to find out there was a medical explanation for the mystifying symptoms he
tried to shrug off during his senior season at Tennessee.

Eleven days before their players must report to training camp in Latrobe, the
Steelers and the agents for first-round draft choice Heath Miller held a
six-hour negotiating session yesterday at the team's headquarters on the South
Side. Tom Condon and his assistant Fuzzy Kremer of International Management
Group left town last evening after their discussion with Omar Khan, the
Steelers' chief negotiator. It's their first such meeting since the Steelers
drafted Miller, a tight end from the University of Virginia, three months ago.

Although No. 7 was available, Patriots backup quarterback Doug Flutie is
sticking with No. 2 at this time.
QB Doug Flutie, who will be reporting to Patriots training camp in a few weeks,
took batting practice at Fenway yesterday afternoon.

I dont know when the posting things will be cleared up. I think Taco said when he gets back from vacation he will start to get the board ready for the season, so he might clean up the stuff regarding avatar problems, posting etc. but i dont have any specific info.
