This is the report for Tuesday, atleast I think it's Tuesday, isn't it? Damn I hop it's not Monday...........long weeks.

Between trades, free agent signings and draft picks, it seems the Patriots did everything they could this offseason to account for the loss of Ty Law. Now, after the four-time Pro Bowler said in multiple interviews during the weekend that coach Bill Belichick has called him personally (no agents) to say the Pats still are interested in his services, fans have to wonder if Law will constitute a loss at all. Time will tell, but based onLaw's contract demands and the Pats' salary cap situation, this might bea case of more smoke than fire.

Agent Brian Levy said Monday that it's unlikely free-agent safety Lance Schulters will sign with the Dolphins unless he receives a better contractoffer. "I'm not anticipating anything in the near future with him and the Dolphins," Levy said. "At this point, we haven't been able to come to an understanding that both sides are happy with, but we'll continue to talk in good faith." Schulters made a free-agent visit with the Dolphins last month shortly after being released by Tennessee because of salary-cap reasons.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre doesn't regret the things he has said about the potential holdouts of his teammates, and he didn't back down Monday during his first appearance at the charity U.S. Bank Championship pro-am at the Brown Deer Park Golf Course. Favre has said he wants receiver Javon Walker to honor his contract and report to camp late next week. Rosenhaus, who represents Walker amid his threatened holdout, has taken issue with Favre's opinion. The first was back in May. "Favre himselfhas had his own contract disputes. And I'm surprised he's not sympathetic and supportive," Rosenhaus said. And just last week, Rosenhaus said Favre should call him now that Grady Jackson, another of his clients, is also threatening a holdout for more money. "I haven't called him yet. I don't think he'll answer my calls," Favre said. "Set me straight on what? I've played 14 straight years. I have not held out one time. He has nothing to say to me."

Falcons defensive end Brady Smith underwent neck surgery Saturday and could miss the start of regular season, the team confirmed Monday. The 10-year veteran underwent a cervical-region, nerve-root decompression procedure in Rochester, N.Y., in an attempt to relieve pain that has plagued Smith since late spring, the team said. Doctors projected Smith's recovery time to be six to 12 weeks, meaning he likely would miss all of training camp, which starts Monday, and most of preseason — at best. The worst-case scenario would have him miss up to five regular-season games.

Hoping to "clear up the confusion,'' Buffalo Bills president Tom Donahoe blamed the Jaguars on Monday for not closing a long-discussed trade for running back Travis Henry. Donahoe said the Jaguars were too indecisive intheir dealings with him last week. "Jacksonville was really up and down and couldn't seem to make up their mind what they wanted to do,'' Donahoetold Buffalo reporters.

Ricky Williams 's representative said yesterday that he expects the former Pro Bowl tailback to report to training camp on Sunday with the Miami Dolphins. Agent Leigh Steinberg said he planned to send a letter to the league office asking the NFL to reinstate Williams this week. Williams sat out last season after abruptly retiring just before the Dolphins reportedto training camp last summer, and he's facing a four-game suspension at the outset of the season for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Falcons QB Michael Vick's throwing shoulder is "fine" McKay said. The MRIexam administered a few weeks ago was to see how much progress he made since injuring the shoulder against Carolina Dec. 18 and to have images ofthe arm at this stage should a problem arise in the future, McKay said.

Tim Brown's 17-year NFL career officially ended Monday as an Oakland Raider, but at a news conference orchestrated and funded by himself, with team owner Al Davis conspicuously absent, in a hotel ballroom adjacent to the Oakland Airport that seemed a million miles away from the team's headquarters just up the road in Alameda. Davis, with whom Brown often confidedand feuded over the course of his 16 seasons wearing silver and black inLos Angeles and Oakland, did not attend because of what the Raiders described as a "scheduling conflict." Not surprisingly, only two Raiders' officials -- Amy Trask, the Raiders' chief executive officer who had Brown sign the ceremonial contract, and Jeff Birren, the team's general counsel -- were on hand for Monday's ceremony. No coaches and only one current teammate -- wide receiver Jerry Porter -- attended.

At the very least, Travis Henry gives the Titans a strong insurance policy for Chris Brown, but more likely a player who will compete with him on equal footing for the starting job. One scenario could be for them to share the load, but also to try and get both players on the field together as much as possible. Chow did that last year at Southern Cal, using LenDale White and Reggie Bush as part of the national champion Trojans’ high-powered offense.

Former Vikings offensive lineman Korey Stringer is the only NFL player todie of heatstroke. Four years after he collapsed during training camp, the Vikings are exploring the use of a "radio pill" that would allow trainers to monitor players' body temperatures while they practice. "We've been discussing it for months," Vikings trainer Chuck Barta said Monday. "We've been looking at different information. We're looking to see if we'll use it this year. The system was developed by Palmetto, Fla.-based HQ Inc., and already is used by the Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fans might be leery of paying to watch the Vikings practice at training camp in Mankato. But Vikings coach Mike Tice is concerned about another group's willingness to fork over cash to observe his players on a daily basis. "It is something, (NFL) scouts attending practice, that could hurt usas it pertains to personnel," Tice said Monday. The Greater Mankato Training Camp LLC announced Friday that they will charge a $5 entry fee to practices Sunday through Friday, and $10 on Saturdays. That opens a loophole in the NFL's training camp rules. Scouts from other teams cannot attendfree practices. But if a team charges an admission fee, scouts are permitted to pay and watch. The Vikings are the only NFL team charging for admission to practices, league spokesman Greg Aiello said. The notion that scouts from other teams could get an unfiltered opportunity to evaluate players is troubling to NFL coaches. Given the length of training camp, coaches must be wary of the plays and formati
ons they utilize.

Cedric Benson was chosen with the fourth overall pick in the draft to be the Bears’ franchise running back, even though incumbent Thomas Jones rushed for 948 yards and caught a team-best 56 passes last season. Chancesare, the odd man out — probably Jones — is not going to get nearly enough playing time to keep him content. But if Benson turns out to be thetype of back who can carry an offense, as he was at Texas, the Bears will have a player to build around for years to come.

Several weeks ago, Bears quarterback Rex Grossman proclaimed himself fully recovered from last season’s torn ACL. More important, Bears coaches say he is 100 percent and ready to lead last season’s NFL-worst offenseout of the ashes. “He showed that he’s very confident in his body,”quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson said at the conclusion of spring practices. “He didn’t show any hesitancy with his knee. His arm is as strong and as quick as ever, and his accuracy has definitely improved. If anything, he looks better now than he did a year ago.” Grossman once again enters camp as No. 1, and he has the backing of his teammates. But he knowshe won’t really be considered their leader until he proves himself on the field.

Eagles offensive lineman Ian Allen, who was on the team's Super Bowl roster last season but was not tendered a contract this offseason, signed a one-year ($455,000) deal with the Arizona Cardinals.

Anyone else think this guy is on borrowed time every time he takes the field?

He's a human spectacle...no doubt, but with his style of play, he seems fated for constant injury.

Vick's brother Markus. Borderline headcase say some, but talent to burn and seemingly more durable than Michael (who in my estimation is the single most overated player in all of sports) may come out after this season.

If he has a big year I would think he would end up a first rounder. With multiple first round picks, is he a guy Denver should look at? It would seem a Vick would fit nicely with this system.

Thoughts?

I have a friend from Atlanta who doesn’t waste one moment telling me this guy is “the most electrifying athlete in today’s NFL.” And I can’t really argue with him. But I’ve also never seen one team that hangs their hopes more on one single athlete (maybe even including the Bronco’s Elway years).
If you think Denver’s screwed if we lose Jake, take a look down south. And if I didn’t know better I’d say Vick is trying to put himself in harms way on almost every play.

Absolutely...That has been my train of thought from the beginning. Taco and I bantered on this a couple seasons ago on the Mane which led to a bet that Vick would lead Reeves to a Super Bowl ring.

My basis is simple. He is a horrible passer with a rocket arm and amazing legs. He currently makes himself an amazing threat solely with his legs and the moment those fail him he is worthless unless he makes himself a passer which he will probably never do because his instincts is to run when his 1st or 2nd progression isn't there. The fact is he has been banged up every season already and it will only get worse cause he is only getting older and every day his body will be less and less resilient.

My guess is he has 3 seasons left as the "franchise" before injuries take away his only threat and the Falcons have to move in a different direction under center.

His physical tools are amazing and won't count the guy out but he is buring those physical tools up at both ends.

That’s been my stance on Vick from day 1

When he is “on” he is almost unbeatable, but when he’s off, he is really really bad. He has little if any pocket presence.

His legs and speed are unreal, but that only leads to injuries in the long run. He’s had a shoulder problem ever year I think…..except for the year he broke his leg.

His body has already proven it can't withstand the pounding he gives it by running so much. That will get worse with age and that is not to mention all these old injuries will most likely start causing ongoing nagging pain and will keep compounding. The other thing is as he ages he will probably start losing some of that speed which will only make it easier for defenses to tee off. The kid will struggle to get out of bed by the time he is 30.

Of course for all the criticism Vick gets he is the sole reason that his team made the playoffs. With him they are a legitimate contender to be division champs, and without him they are a legit contender to be the worst in the NFL. That alone speaks for his talents.

While I agree he isn't worth the top contract in football, he is definetely a very solid player under center and I don't much care that he does it with his legs rather than his arm. That he is prone to getting injured is more the result of lack of playmakers around him to take off the pressure, forcing him to do it all. Peerless is a big time bust, and he has only Alge to throw the ball to.

Suprised nobody touched on what a classy organization the Faiders have. Tim Brown has been one of the best over the last 15 years. Richard Weed (aka Al Davis) can't even bid him farewell in retirement? I hate the Faid more and more everyday!!!
