View Full Version : Rosenhous Saves Drowning Toddler

I hate to sound cynical, but I noticed that the article never mentioned if anyone actually witnessed his heroics, first-hand. Can you just see the next ESPN does a blurb on Rosenhous? First they'll show him "working the phones" for Willis McGahee, then they'll show a dramatization of him saving the toddler.

"When I was in high school, I was a lifeguard, and had learned CPR," Rosenhaus said. "In a situation like that, instincts kind of take over, I think. Let me tell you, this is the happiest day of my life. To save a little boy like that, who has his whole life in front of him, it's incredibly gratifying."
Thank goodness he was there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I actually have a lot of respect for Drew's ability as an agent. He can position his client like no one else can. He's so good at it, that I am cynical when he gets the most incredible kind of PR a person could possibly get. Saving the life of a 3 year old.
Wow.
Way to go Drew!

I dont have a problem with Drew telling guys to hold out for more a year after signing their contracts or anything like that. Obviously, not good when it happens to us, but i dont have any problems with that as a general concept. Its part of the game. He is doing his job. The whole "you signed it, honor it" is the biggest load of crap. Its all about leverage. NFL Front Offices are prevented from making the morally high and mighty argument about honoring Ks when nothing is guaranteed in the league. Even the variation that says "well you signed it knowing its not guaranteed" is crap. You cannot go from the argument in the pure abstract outside of reality of "you signed it honor it" and then bring in the reality that the underlying K is not guaranteed and you know that when your signing it, without also accepting the reality that you know as a fact of life by the same token that people have and will continue to hold out, so its forseeable to the front office that this will happen as well. Whether someone deserves a new deal depends on whether the team can survive and win a sufficient amount of games without him period. If they can survive to what they think is acceptable, than he doesnt deserve it, if they cant, he is vital enough to deserve a new one and the market will bear that out assuming they are acting rationally (i.e. want to save their season).
Drew is fine and holding out is fine in principle, just dont let him get ahold of Broncos.

Then these rookies should only be signing a two year deal. If you show in two years that you are the real deal and deserve to have the bling bling thrown your way then fine. But signing a 4 year deal just to hold out in your second year is stupid. Either that, or their agent should have alot of incentives thrown into the contract. There are alot of ways to make sure your client gets paid without having to threaten to hold out in your second or third year.

Yeah that would be great. I agree here, it would avoid the problems. Have the guy sign a 2 or 3 year deal. Not the 5 year deals they are now signing.

It's always fun to see how many different ways Drew's last name will be spelled in the numerous threads about him.
What I can't believe is Rosenhaus being able to bribe the Orange County police into corroborating this obviously untrue story.

If they had the ability to negotiate with all teams, that would work. However, under the current system, they are slotted by NFL scouts and front offices, who don't seem to do such a good job in retrospect.

Sports agent saves boy's life at Disney pool
Authorities say Drew Rosenhaus rescued a Chicago child by performing CPR.

Feel-good stories and Drew Rosenhaus usually don't go together, but those very stars aligned Tuesday, and a young boy is alive because of it.
Rosenhaus, the controversial hardball-playing sports agent, performed life-saving CPR on 3-year-old Maurice Garrett, who was unconscious after being pulled from a pool at a Disney World resort. The boy was transported to Celebration Hospital and was to be transferred to Florida Hospital Orlando late Tuesday. He was listed in good condition, according to hospital spokeswoman Samantha O'Lenick.
"Rosenhaus brought him back," Orange County Sheriff's spokesman Cpl. Carlos Torres said.
In representing NFL stars such as Terrell Owens, Jevon Kearse, Clinton Portis and Warren Sapp, Rosenhaus has attained a level of fame reserved for only the most powerful agents. But this was an altogether different type of achievement.
"This is the happiest day of my life," Rosenhaus said when reached on his cell phone Tuesday night. "It's almost appropriate that it happened at Disney World."
Torres said Maurice, vacationing from the Chicago area with his family, was left alone by his 10-year-old brother in the kiddie pool of the Grand Floridian hotel around 4 p.m. The brother returned to find the sibling unconscious.
Rosenhaus, in town with some clients for a function at ESPN Club, was at the pool with his girlfriend when he heard screaming and rushed to the scene.
"No one was doing anything," said Rosenhaus, a former lifeguard trained in CPR.
He decided to.
"The kid brought his brother out, and Drew was able to see what was going on," Torres said. "There was a lifeguard on duty, but Drew got to him before the lifeguard."
Rosenhaus began cardiopulmonary resuscitation and revived him before Reedy Creek fire department personnel took over, Torres said.
"All I kept thinking was, 'I am not going to let this little boy die!' " Rosenhaus said. "My adrenaline was pumping. His mother was screaming and crying. I just wasn't going to give up. Finally, water and fluid came spitting out of his mouth, and he started to come around. What a tremendous relief."
The family later telephoned Rosenhaus and invited him to the hospital to visit the child. Rosenhaus gladly accepted.
"It's a great feeling to rescue a little boy who had his whole life in front of him, I just can't believe it," Rosenhaus said. "It's nice to be the good guy, for once."

Good for you, Drew! Too bad you had to ruin it all by demanding that his parents sign off on a contract that will pay you 10% of the kid's future, lifetime earnings.
(Hey, Slug. I just turned my boys on to that movie - The Thing - a couple of nights ago. Scared the crap out of them. They pulled their sleeping bags into our room for the night and slept on the floor. )

Even Rosenhaus knows that a dead person can neither pay or be paid. If he wasn't going to be a client, at least he would be a number. Maybe a season ticket holder of the future. It's a numbers game right?
I'm not discounting what he did at all, especially since his first instinct as a shark would of been to eat him. That alone shows alot of discipline.
In all fairness, if I were a prospect/player, there is no question I would hire him. On the other side, if he gets a monopoly on the agent busness, it's going to be a disaster. IMO, small time players aren't paid enough, and stars are paid too much.

Then there are guys like Trevor. Guys really been an underachiever most of his career. He's not ring of fame matl. He'll be gone next year without restructiring big time. He's got at most 3 more productive years. He could make more selling cars in Denver than his agent will get him. JMO
