Rudolf gets life sentence for murder:

http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/07/18/rudolph.sentencing/index.html

"Rudolph, 38, avoided the death penalty by pleading guilty in April to the Birmingham bombing and three other attacks in the South between 1996 and 1998, including the blast at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. In all, two people were killed and more than 100 injured."

...

In the later Atlanta area blasts, Rudolph targeted federal agents by placing second bombs nearby set to detonate after police arrived to investigate the first explosion."

So how come Rudolf, who, in a series of crimes, murdered two, injured at least 100 others (some deformed for life) and attempted to kill an additional number of law enforcement officers ... gets life, while Alabama and Georgia continue to execute persons who only killed once?

It never went to a jury. The prosecutors let him plead guilty in return for a life sentence. Just seems to me that this isn't very fair to persons who killed fewer people ... and who attempted to kill far fewer people ... who weren't given that option.

Murder is murder. Doesn't matter if it is terrorist, dumb a33 like this, or a guy robbing the local liquor store. Just get them out of society the cheapest way possible.

Apparently he had knowledge of some 350 lbs. or so of explosives that he refused to disclose unless he were offered a plea. The deal was basically life in prison instead of death in exchange for the info to find the bombs.

No link, this was per NPR.

I thought we didn't negotiate with terrorists.

Kinda like Terry Nichols getting life from the state of Oklahoma. A complete waste of taxpayer money for the state trial. But Bob Macy, the DA at the time was retiring and wanted it to be his legacy. What happens? They go to trial, convict him of 160 counts of murder and he gets multiple life sentences. Now every person on death row should appeal on the grounds of this. It set a precedence. How can you not give the death penalty to Nichols, but to some dude that killed a ballerina?

How long before the Christian Taliban starts sending death threats to the judge who heard the case and Tom DeLay starts calling for a reduced sentence?

I'm still trying to figure out how he thought he was stopping abortions by bombing lesbian bars and olympics fans.
