Hey it's the offseason, and this has been on my mind for quite some time now, jsut curious who either owns or has ridden a jet ski before?

I've been contemplating on buying a fun toy for myself, first it was going to be a motorcycle, also thought about an ATV, but it's sealed and done that next year I will be purchasing a jet ski.

My cousin has one and we launch out and the nearby beach in Lake Erie, most fun I friggin have ever. Its a family size ski so it can ride up to 4 people, so usually I just ride passenger as my cousin drives it(they're a couple rgrand so I understand why he never has let me drive it before.) But Sunday was a different story...

I got down there about 2 hours late(long night of drinking had me knocked out until about 2 PM), so by the time I got down to the beach, my cousin and his family had already been riding for those few hours. So, he took me out to where the jet ski was anchored, showed me all the compartments and to read all the gauges, told me to hop on, and let me drive it solo for a good half hour or so.

Best time in my life, riding passenger style is still cool but I would've never imagined how fun being in control and steering the jet ski would be. I HAVE to get me one of those, I live 5 minutes away from the beach and would take it out once or twice a week(plus it's a ladies grabber, big time), just so damn fun to ride those jet skis, peaked at 52 MPH's and I kept trailing this sppedboat so I could catch the wakes that he produces and would just skip those waves full throttle, what a rush.

So anyone else into jet skis around here? Which jet ski do you own? often you go out? Ton of other questions, but mainly, who likes riding a jet ski?

I used to when we had a place at the lake but when highschool football started I never had time to go down there so we gave em up. Those were some good times.

What kind did you have? I'm gonna be looking for a cheaper kind, probably get it used so I can save a couple G's, but figure I have time to save up since Ohio's summer is already half gone, no use to get a jet ski now with only a month or so left to ride.

Alot of people use the terms from place to place in the country...do you want a jet ski or a wave runner?

I just refer to them all as jet skis, not even sure of the difference(if there is much of one or even at all), my cousin calls it a jet ski so I want a jet ski.

Cool, im the same way...with some people they say it differently. I think we had a SeaDoo. I think...but it was new. I would check this out...seems like it has some good stuff that could at least give you a range idea price wise. Maybe you could even find one.

Thanks for the link, been checking out the papers and stuff and getting some estimates on the prices, seems that you drop a good 500-2000 dollars by getting a used one rather than a brand new one.

I want one with at least a seat for 2, the stand-up skis look cool but I like sitting down and standing up just for the waves, plus I'd like to take people out with me. Plus I can scare them to death when I loop a figure 8 or something(most of my friends have never been on a jet ski so they'll be freaked out for the first time.)

SeaDoo's look nice, my cousin has a Yamaha, I just want one that has seats and gets at least 50 MPH's.

Yep. Kawaski's each one that I have tooken a ride on. Topped one out at 69 and wrecked going 55 mph. I ended up closer to the beach then the jetski. They are nothing but good times. Need to hook up NOS to one and see how that would go.

My uncle has a wave runner. I personally love it. They are very fun and you can go out with Family and Just hang out @ the water all day.

He has a Yamaha, I dont know the exact model, but it goes like 60mph. Very Very Fun.

How'd you wreck and were you hurt?

That my biggest fear out there, I was hitting those wakes at 52 MPH's and skipping like hell out there, thought I was going to flip over the jet ski(didn't stop me from keeping it at max speed, but I was a bit worried.)

Ever ride them out in the ocean? I know you live in Florida so wondering how riding a jet ski would be with those 6-10 foot waves that the ocean delivers to the shore.

Man, that would be fun as hell to ride with 6 foot waves, probably be tough as hell to control but damn, just imagine the air you would get by skipping off one of those.

I turned really fast to throw myself off. Was I hurt? Well after bouncing off the water 5 times, I can tell you I felt better before I did that. Its not that bad though. Pretty much it was just for a rush and it worked. Don't turn over 50 with someone holding you though. I did that and landed right on top of my wife and I knocked the wind out of her. A friend of mind flipped and cut open his face on a jetski. I'm sure that hurt.

Only times I turn over 50 regardless if someone is with me or not, is if I'm looking to do a figure 8, but really I dont like doing those because it's my cousins jet ski and I would hate for my dumbass to flip it or get in a wreck with it, so I'm a lot more cautious on the turns than I would be if I had my own jet ski.

I'm sure you could, jsut gotta drive it out to the spot and sit idle to cast your line.

The place where I go is a big walleye and perch spot, so I don't mind fishing out on Lake Erie, but not in a jet ski, I need the speed.

They're just not worth owning in metro Denver. Chatfield, Aurora and Cherry Creek reservoirs are too small to make owning a jet ski/waverunner worth it, IMO.

A few years ago I spent a week at Lake Powell with a houseboat and a bunch of waverunners. Now that was a good time.

I just sold my Yamaha Waveraider 1100 not too long ago, that thing was awesome. Would get in to the 65-67 MPH range. Don;t know if I'll buy another one. My last place the boat ramp was 5 min away, but since I moved down here it was 30-40 mins. to get to some good riding, so it kind of lost its appeal. But they are a lot of fun and enjoyed every time I took mine out.

Drift to much , then hard to fight the fish and net it ......... not to mention trolling .......

Jet Ski's are fun, but other than a speed rush on the water, they can get a little bit old once the novelty wears off. They certainly aren't as versatile as a boat, but they are 100x less hassle. One person can basically move and transport a jetski pretty easily.

I love wave runners. I would give up my snow cat for one, but my hubby says nope. Montana doesn't have enough summer for me to justify getting rid of the snow cat for one, but man oh man are they a blast!

Never have done that. I wish we had 6-10 foot waves, i wouldn't be jet skiing, i'd be surfing.

Stone Cole fact is young men will have the jet ski tow them out past the break line. Then they can catch a big wave. I doubt that's on lake Erie.

I'd take a motorcyle over a jetski anyday, but jetskis are pretty fun once u get used to them.

Unless it's a stormy or windy day Lake Erie doesn't see 6 foot waves, we'll get maybe 2-3 footers, so I basically just follow speed boats to catch their waves that they produce.

The beach also has a break wall that haults a lot of wave activity, so you'll see a lot of jet ski riders drive it out past the break wall to have a little more fun on the bigger waves.

A motorcycle would be fun but my mom has told me that I have to mvoe out if I get one. I'm one of those 22 year old reckless types, like Kellen Winslow without the millions of dollars, so she wants me out of the house so she won't have to worry constantly about my safety and well-being.

It's dangerous being that way, but fun as hell, I'm just glad that my cousin had no clue about my driving record or I'm sure he would've never let me take his jet ski out by myself.

rofl The key is NOT to get caught. Of course being from rural MT might have helped a lot in my case.....

I remember renting Jet Skis at the lake about 20 years ago. The standup kind was all that was available. You had to stand up or ride on your knees.

Then Wave Runners came out, so I always thought Wave Runners were sit down versions of Jet Skis.
