Whch player do you think will win this seaons's heisman trophy and why?
Adrian Peterson
RB Oklahoma
Even though he did not start until week six, he set an NCAA freshman rushing record with 1925 yards and also had 15 TD's. He was the first freshman ever to come as close as he did to winning the Heisman. He was also a concensus choice for the all-America team.
I think that it is reasonable to expect Peterson to possibly break NCAA records in rushing and TD's this season, if he breaks one of those and OU has a good season, he will be a lock for the Heisman.

Hard to argue with that. Lienert will also be there all year, as will Vince Young, the RB from Memphis and Ted Ginn. I would not be suprised to see those 5 in New York comes December.

WR, Florida State
Despite FSU having the worst offseason one could imagine (AJ Nicholson's multiple brushes with the law, Ernie Simms' embarrassing domestic episode last week, Wyatt Sexton playing God and subsequently being only the second person in decades in Leon County to be diagnosed with "Lyme" disease, stud CB Antonio Cromartie going down with an ACL tear, and the numerous grade problems among the defensive lineman), the Seminoles should be excited at the prospects of WR #84, who even starred in a commercial for NCAA Football 2006. Say "Hello Heisman", Florida State fans!

I think its gonna end up being between Reggie Busch and Peterson. Reggie might take it just because this is probey his last year in college and peterson has another year to get it but if peterson has just an awsome year there wont be any excuses not to give it to him. He's deffinately and amazing player.

If nobody puts up big numbers in one of the big conference I would say DeAngelo Williams at Memphis could easily sneek in there and take it with a 1800-2000 yard season.

Whatever team has the #1 choice in 2007, they should make overtures to Bob Stoops and then draft Adrian Peterson. Stoops just had a $3 million bonus added to his contract if he is still coaching the Sooners in 2008 but how many college coaches get the chance to coach in the pros with their stud running back in tow.

#1 Peterson
#1a. Leinart
Darkhorse. DeAngelo Williams. He could wind up with 2200 yards and 30 TD's.
Vince Young won't make it b/c he doesn't have the WR's around him. If he were the QB in 2002 with Roy Williams, BJ Johnson, and Sloan Thomas I'd say it's a no brainer. RB questions and only one established WR in Sweed make him a long long shot. Funny how things work out but UTEP has better WR's than UT this year!!!
BTW, since we're on this subject what do you guys think of passing on Leinart in the first (no athleticsm) and take a shot at a Reggie McNeil (Texas A&M) in the 2nd or our own first round pick. Reggie is just as athletic as Vince Young but has a better, more consistent arm. Pay attention to him this year. Also thinking about Brad Smith in the 2nd round. We need an athletic QB, Leinart won't due. Then again, if we're looking long term and Shanny isn't in the plans Leinart is one of the best pocket passers to come along in a long long time.

I don't know about McNeil - he has plenty to prove in regard to consistency. Maybe in the 3rd or 4th if he has a good year. I don't like Smith at all. He looked like a quitter to me last year when things started down hill for Mizzoo

I could see a whole bunch of people getting it. Reggie Bush is a big name and does well in primetime games. People like flash, even if Lendale White is more consistent. It could go to Matt Leinart because the voters have a rich history of giving it to average QBs on great teams. Adrian Peterson could get it as well. DeAngelo Williams if he gets enough publicity but he will really have to turn it on to win it. Voters hate giving it to players on nationally unrecognized teams. Maybe Vince Young if he leads Texas to wins over Ohio State and Oklahoma. He might beat Oklahoma this year because they arent going to be as good as they normally are, but i dont think he can go into Columbus and win. If Kiwi pulls in over 20 sacks he might have a shot but people hate giving it to defensive players for some reason.

I think that Texas can pull it off this year, not because OU lacks talent, but because Texas has built some momentum around a core group of guys and they always have top-level athletes.
OU has some unbelievable talent at every spot this season. They have had some great recruiting classes over the last 4 years. AD is back, Davin Joseph, Larry Birdine, Rufus Alexander, Eric Bassey, Travis Wilson, Onyonegecha, Pasha Jackson, Dusty Dvoracek, etc... They will have no problem competing for a BCS bowl again this season.

He's my choice for 1st team All America at QB. I havent seen a true freshman carve up defenses that easily since Big Ben was like 40 of 53 against Hawaii in 2001. It was literally amazing seeing no dropoff whatsoever when he went into the game for LeFors. He was running past the speedy Miami LBs for first downs. He was drilling it right to the recievers number opposite the closest defender before Rolle could have a chance to swat it away. He was finding the seams and throwing right when the back of his foot hit the ground on the 5th step. It was flawless.

He is a KSU homer and absolutely hates Missouri and even the passing mention that Brad Smith might be halfway decent.

I think you're miss informed. If you go back and look at him and compare him to say Vincent Young you'll see that he is just as fast a runner. Has a stronger more accurate arm. Throws more TD's. Less INT's. Runs for similar yardage and to top it all off he is amongst the leaders in the Big XII in Completion Pct. If you think he'll be around in the 4th round you're smoking something good or not paying attention to Texas/BIG XII football! The only thing that Vince Young has over Reggie is height, which is negated by Young's throwing motion which is normally 3/4's but often ends up lower than that. I'll post more later on this subject but Reggie threw something like 4 INT's last year. Pretty low number, especially when you consider that the running game wasn't too good in College Station last year. Courtney Lewis can be good, but he's never healthy. I want to say that Reggie's best WR over the years has been Ferguson and T. Murphy... neither of them going for more than 40 catches during his time. Ferguson I believe left before he really got to play with him as well. Point being that he's had some no name WR's to work with and has still managed to put up a 4:1 TD:INT ratio!

He had an unreal freshmen year, and has never lived up to how much he has been built up ever since that.
That is called hype, he looked great as a freshmen but has been expected to improve and hasn't.

Hype is a function of media interest. I simply said that there is something behind the hype. I dont neccessarily agree that he is the best thing since sliced bread, but he does have some good looking skills and athletic talent. So in effect: not all hype.

I want to throw out another darkhorse. Laurence Maroney (Sp?), RB, Minn. He has rushed for over 2000 yards the last two seasons and that was playing 2nd fiddle to the Senior Marion Barber III. Now that he's the lone ranger at Minn I think you'll see him put up some pretty amazing #'s. It also helps that he's a preseason All-American according to a few different sites.

I am seriously intrigued by Omar Jacobs of Bowling Green as the next potential Broncos QB. No way he gets mentioned for the Heisman being from a small School, but his attributes and Skills may make him the next great MAC QB IMHO. I am thinking about seeing him play the season opener at Ball state. Anyone want to tag along?

Agree he really has little chance of the Heisman, but I like the way he plays and would be pleased to have him in Orange and Blue with a late first or second round choice.

Anyone but Leinart is fine although i would much prefer to wait till 2007 for Brian Brohm. Oh and Med, there's a QB out here in southern california that is currently working for a PR firm after not getting a contract from the Chargers that i think we should bring onto the roster. ;D

I wrote a large piece on Jacobs awhile back at another site... I'll have to see about finding it and post it here. The Kid has incredible attributes and actually plays his size... meaning his throws are typical of a taller QB as opposed to a Vincent Young or Philip Rivers. He won't be a Heisman winner, but he'll have the numbers to say that he should be! Plus, if I'm not mistaken he has a pretty good WR in Nance to throw to. Long story short, he has as much of a chance as DeAngelo Williams b/c of the small school/conf/comp. label(s).
