You know, it really peeves me to think that our media has become the puppets of our enemy. That young Captain is a hero, as was his young driver (probably a Lance Corporal or PFC), and his M2 gunner (also a PFC or Lance Corporal), as is every man and woman who guard our freedoms. Whether you agree or disagree with our involvment in Iraq is inconsequential, when you realize that there are fine young men and women who are putting their lives on the line everyday. However, I would much rather hear stories like this Captain, or the Iraqi woman who walked like 15 miles (or some high amount, I don't call the exact figure) to vote in her country's first free elections and thanking our troops for helping her ability to do that. Not just the negative reporting, that we have just been being fed up to this point.

"Accounts of American valor are dismissed by the press as propaganda, yet accounts of American difficulties are heralded as objectivity. It makes you wonder if the role of the media is to inform or to depress - to report or to deride. To tell the truth, or to feed us lies."
I would of been peeing my pants in that situation, that was an Audy Murphy story. Picking up killed enemy AK-47's and blowing out their clips. Boo-yah...kill the animals. The latest attack in London just illustrates how real this threat is. These animals, (I'm not using this lightly, because I value human life, hell I value vegetable life), are the scum of the earth, vermin.
A pretty cool show is Gunny on MailCall on the History Channel. He was a drill sergent and saw combat in nam. The only thing I miss about Vietnam was the tai sticks his friends would smuggle back. There were cheap imitations, but real stick was dipped in opium. People who compare nam to Iraq are misguided fools. Vietnam had no real issues of national security, it was just political gamesmanship with Russia and China. As much as the media wants to say we lost that war, we didn't. We sued for peace and predictably, the communists violated the Paris peace accords and killed an estimated 10-20 million in S. Vietnam and Cambodia. Today, we read that we are opening diplomatic ties with the bastards. It's probably the right move, but it sticks in my craw a bit. "Be like Mike Right?" Nike has been making shoes in Vietnam for a decade, with wages you couldn't buy more than rice with. They make those shoes for about 2 dollars and sell them for 120. That's better than the drug business, and you don't get shot or arrested.

Since you mentioned walking so far to vote, I have a funny story. I worked with a bunch of translators and got to know them pretty well (All Iraqis) and oh were they excited during the establishment of their new government. Saddam was gone and they were free. Then one day the government was official, and they all came in angry. I asked them why. "Taxes no good" theyd tell me... haha.
The people arent animals Mock. Any religious fundamentalist that wants to harm others over an idea is an animal. Arabs are just as human. A lot of them are just in a bad way and desperate because of really hard economic times... then some Mujhadeen come in recruiting with millions of Saudi money and these guys are willing to throw their lives away to try and provide for their kids. They do treat their women like dog **** though.

I don't mind balanced opinion, and I know it's been tough. All our brave soldiers deserve medals, but this guy was balls out. The truely sad thing is that we come in peace.
Hey, wasn't that a Sci-Fi movie?...he had a disk to cure all disease and we shot him.
Some people think I'm some radical right warmonger. I wring my hands every day. Sometimes beating sense out of a stubborn mule is like having to hit a 2x4 across a mule.
My biggest fear is obvious. We had 32,000 nukes and who knows how many the Soviets had. I think even they understand the consequences.
The enemy is trying to wear us down. I'll step ut. I'm nothing but the Berlin fortress, but I'm there. Just give me a gun. I have absolutely no problem capping one of these clowns.

My Dad was in Iraq earlier this year, he said the situation with the terrorists there is miserable, that in a straight up show of force, they get their ass kicked, like when they tried to assault abu gharaib, lot of dead towelheads. He said the people tho, the everyday Iraqi, do not want us to leave any sooner then we have to, they know americans=security. Plus, he mentioned the madcrazy heat, and the constant need for babywipes.

I understand baby wipes with some lanolin are still in high demand.
I have heard it's hell on earth there. Dry, Sandy there right now. I don't have a link handy, and I'm not sure where they should be sent. I do know they really like those handy wipes, not the cleaning type, the type you clean the baby with.
That stuff can work wonders with everything from your face to butt, and clean weapons. I can't tell you where to send it. USO would know I figure. I keep hearing they don't have enough baby wipes again and again. Guns we got. It sounds silly, but it keeps coming up. Can't we just bring in a transport with them? Clean their eyes, wipe up, clean their guns.

For those of us that are from military families and have had a family member over there we have heard the great stories of our great men and women over there. Nice to see something we can pass around to others to see. They are the one bright spot in this war and great ambassordors for the Americans. When my brother was over there it was water that was needed, nice to have the info of the baby wipes for when my son goes in January.

My Brother is in Iraq now, outside of Fallujah, got a letter from him yesterday, and he got right to the point, his electric razor broke, he needs a new one, and he wants nearly a case of babywipes and aveeno body wash. In his words, he looks like a leper. He comes home in september.

I'm 3rd generation Air Force (although I'm now a civilian) who served at the end of the Cold War. My grandfather was a Colonel in the AF, my father is a retired Master Sergeant, my brother joined the marines right after Viet Nam ended. We are all proud of the job being performed by the men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan. In fact, my best friend, a combat medic in the Army, is scheduled to be deployed to Afghanistan this month and had to put off his wedding plans. We're praying for him and all the other soldiers currently in harms way.

I disagree that the media has become a puppet to our enemy, or at least I disagree about who the enemy are. The media didn't report that there were most likely no womd that could harm the US prior to the invasion, because that was viewed as being unpatriotic, and the major multi-nationals that sell toothpaste and tampons and viagra via ads in the media (and some of whom are making billions off of the war directly, and off the young soldiers as well) didn't want that story reported, because it was bad for advertising ... as Phil Donahue and Chris Matthews found out. The media has been reluctant to report the depth of the deception, for the same reason. And now the media doesn't really want to report about the 12thousand or so maimed soldiers and thier families, nor does it want to report about the guys like this marine, because it leaves a bad taste in the mouth of somebody who doesn't want to join up, and who is being asked to be in a good mood to buy toothpaste, tampons, and viagra.
I hope the kid makes it home ok. And, I really hope something good comes of Iraq.

Letters are always great... my favorites were from kids in school or high school cheerleading teams. Care packages usually get pirated and ransacked before they ever make it forward to where the Marines are. If you REALLY want to make someones day put down a bogus return address (for anonymity) and take a listerine bottle (replace listerine with whiskey, tequila, vodka, etc) and send that over... youll make someones day.

Hmm, you'd think our boys wouldn't need listerine labeled Molotov Cocktails to fight these battles. Shortage of grenades?
Sorry, smartass in training still.
I'm proud of you guys Rev, you're making us all proud. We sent a big care package almost a year ago. 1400 lbs of goods... including 40 boxes of wipes. We grabbed every single sports and car mag in stock from a local Wal-mart and sent them over as well. We also sent a good bit of snacks... beef jerkey, pringles, and peanuts. Some of my friends had the great idea of sending choclate and hard candies. They took a lot of grief for that one... though they had good intentions. :D

You would probably be right in most cases, but we took this one over in route to another location on a C-17... it may have got ran-sacked, but it wasn't by the mail clerks who normally get into the goods. We had about 14 other care packages that were of the same or similar size (1 pallet's worth). 96" x 108" or something like that! Had nets so they were over 45" tall.

Zarqawi cited several of our esteemed congressmen, who happen to be democrats, as PROOF we are losing the war in Iraq. Our enemies are quoting members of our own government. Media assumes every war is Vietnam, and that every presidential inquiry is Watergate. Media is not about news anymore, its about being sensationalistic. anyone in the military, or anyone with family in the military knows what is really going on. But they dont ask us, now do they?

Only people who know the worry and the pride I feel for my dad and my brother have people in the same position themselves. It makes me sick when members of the media look happy that another suicide attack occurred. I hate that, it seems our own media and members of the left hate this country more then the people who attack us. So much news about alleged abuses at Gitmo, the fact they get fed three times a day is more then can be said for OUR guys on the ground there, or for civilians and troops who get kidnapped then beheaded. But hell, why does that matter? Anyways, this thread did not start out about Politics, and i apologize for making it so.

I agree but we can't just pick up and leave. Civil war would break out and geonicide would occur because we didn't have the guts or fortitude to stay there. We shouldn't have went but now that were there we have to finish the job.
