I know there was some speculation the other day regarding whether Bill Williamson was still with the Post.
I was just listening to ESPN radio with Sean Salisbury and John Clayton and they had BW on as the "expert guest", reporting on the Broncos minicamp. Apparently he is still with the Post, and you'll all be relieved to know that you didn't miss anything - a surprise, I know.
I swear - the guy was on for twenty minutes and he didn't say anything.
A typical exchange:
Salisbury: "Tell us about that defense. It looks as if they are loaded at linebacker, but they have to be worried about that defensive line."
BW: "Well, they are loaded at linebacker, but there are question marks about the defensive line - that's gonna be the key."
Salisbury: "Okay, what about Jake Plummer. It seems as if he is doing great by the numbers, until you look at that interceptions number. It seems as if he needs to cut that in half for them to have a chance to do things this year."
BW: "Yeah, you know, the thing about Jake is that he'll wow you sometimes. His numbers looked great last year. But he'll really need to get his interception total down to, say, ten this year for them to be where they want to be."
That was the way it was the whole segment.
So there you have it. I can't wait to read his insight in the next mailbag.

Damn. He didnt even talk about guys who were making plays at the camp. Typical Burger Bill. Its surprising that he is still at the Post since he hasnt written one damn article on this camp yet.

I heard the same interview....two tasty treats from Bill:
the Broncos had hoped Clarrett would have lost his "superstar" attitude by now and had hoped he'd be a little more mature.
the broncos also hope by putting Mike Myers at the top of the depth chart at DT/NT, will light a fire under the sometimes lazy Gerrard Warren.
the rest was Salsbury Steak and Mark Scherleth (stink) taking turns bashing the Broncos. Calyton rarely hgad antything to add to the almost 40 minutes of Bronco talk.

Thats great. This clown has been in town less than 6 months and he's already had at least fifteen nicknames branded to him.
Burger Bill is the best, it should stick.

I heard that, too. But I got the impression A) with the Clarett blurb that he was just saying what he thought the ESPN guys wanted to hear; and B) with the Myers/Warren thing, that he was just repeating what had been in both papers earlier in the week - speculation that Myers was only first to light a fire under Warren. He really didn't add insight to the issue, and I didn't get the impression that he had any idea what he was talking about with Clarett.
It is interesting that he doesn't seem to be writing anything these days. I wonder if The Post is trying to ease him into being the beat writer for the Mammoth, or something.
They ought to have Patrick Saunders do more all year - he is worlds better than BW.
This fat putz doesn't deserve the job he has. We could have dug up somebody from the grave that would give us better insight Bill "WeightWatchers" Williamson. I am pissed this guy is on the beat. I have been all year so far and this guy is doing nothing at all to change my mind.

I've been following these questions about the guy, but I always forget to ask somebody.
I'll say this...for a fat guy, he sure was invisible at the mini-camp, but then, maybe he covered the bowling, I don't know.
Point is, I don't remember seeing him...maybe he was in the complex getting all those interviews that I didn't.

yep, were pretty frustrated with him, BPC. Actually in the beginning he was writing some good articles, but then it got crappier and then he just stopped writing. Saunders has to write something or else nothing gets written at the Post. For days at a time, i see nothing over there. RMN has beaten them badly with their coverage. Its not Saunders fault really he is writing when he can and its good stuff what he puts forth but he has to do everything.

Perhaps that explains why all his answers at that ESPN radio thing were very general and not specific as to the Denver camp at all. Hmm. If your the beat guy, i just cant fathom why your not at camp. Something is seriously ****ed up with this Williamson guy. We'll start a coup and install you at the DPO instead Wabbit.

Great...better yet, help me get elected sports editor..then I can fire him in a great ceremonial blood-letting.
You know, stuff an apple in his mouth, strip him his tighty-whities, tie him to a wagon & send him packing down Speer Blvd in the middle of rush hour.
This way...everyone knows he's gone. The way it is now, he's just kind of...no-where.

Wabbit as the Sports Editor = heads be rollin'. That would be nice. That way you could get Kiszla out of there as well. That guy has nothing positive to say about the team ever. Its always either the team has no heart or X player is a bust or Shanny should be fired etc. He doesnt even write about the team until the day after a loss to say that the sky is falling.

Why are people dismissing Maurice Clarett copping a superstar attitude? As much as we would like to believe differently, he's probably still the same guy who blew off Marcus Allen.

That may or may not be true Slappy, but now that it seems apparent that Williamson isnt even going to the damn camps, we really have reason to question his supposed observations. The staff seems to like him, although he does have to shed a little more weight.

Now, c'mon guys, there are a lot of reasons he may've been off the beat.
Remember the Post is a syndication. With notable exceptions, they have writers working on any number of things not necessarily their orginal task.
It's the new wave in the print media world, and it's how they write up the contracts now.
Newspapers are now conglomerates with direct corporate connections & ownership of radio & t-v, and even the internet.
That's a far cry from not all that long ago when the mediums were in direct competition.
So, in all fairness to ol' Bill...he may have duties that extend beyond his column...and the newspaper for that matter.

And yet other writers for other papers with similar or more responsiblities were able to make it to mini camps and lay down an occational column now and again.
If his responsibilities are preventing him from being able to cover the number one sports team in the mountain region, than perhaps the Post should consider other options, like a smart-mouthed furry mammal, for example. If it was almost any other team, I'd understand.
