I just got an email from a friend who is somewhat in the know about Washington politics... said to look for this tomorrow... I've checked CNN and Fox News sites... and nothing... so if it's true... it truely is a scoop...

Time will tell.

BTW: He didn't say who would resign, I'm guessing Rehnquist.

Yes, its being reported on some wires that Rehnquist will retire this week.

Novak mentioned it in his column today that "court insiders" thinks the CJ will hand in his resignation tomorrow.

Man, the good news just keeps pouring in. Bush will potentially be able to apoint two new supreme justices...haha desperation will now set in the left aisle. "Please Mr. Bush, appoint someone fair...like a moderate, or better yet, someone leaning a little more to the left, thats more fair for all of America. Sincerely yours. Ted Kennedy"

I say appoint someone so conservative it drives the the left insane and they all move to New Zealand.

Rehnquist's resignation isn't as big of a deal as O'Connor's. While it does open the door for Scalia to be Chief Justice - it's not like Bush can nominate anyone MORE right-wing then Rehnquist.

For a party that was claims that its for individual rights and responsibilities, why do they seem to always support agenda items that limit them? Guess most of us aren't smart enough to be trusted to do the right thing.

I don't get too worked up about it. Reagan thought O'Connor would vote "his" way. Same with A. Kennedy. Nixon thought Blackmun would do the same. Eisenhower thought Earl Warren was a staunch conservative. TR thought Holmes would vote "his" way. Once a person gets on the court, they realize that they no longer owe anybody anything, and they begin to carve out their own niche. Supreme Court nominees are full of surprises.

Yep. These things always seem to work themselves out. I just don't want yet another freaked out, rage filled rat fight...again. But it's inevitable. If I hear from Alec Baldwin I may pay to have him move to Canada.

If he wasnt so old and now retired from the 7th circuit i would have loved to see Judge Richard Posner on the high court. I dont agree with them completely but the old Chicago school of Law and Economics should get a seat at the court. Id take Kozinski from Arizona as well. Michael McConnell would be fine too. My favorite would be Professor Kurt Lash though.
