4. Oakland Raiders
- Obviously you can see that while Randy Moss is a problem in the locker room, he makes people better. With Moss and Jerry Porter catching bombs from Kerry Collins, LaMont Jordan will be beating up defenses on the inside. The Raiders defense will need to come up big this year, but as long as they hold teams under 30 points they will win games.

24. Denver Broncos
- Any time Jake Plummer has the ball, there is a chance for greatness or a boneheaded play. The running game will be successful, as always, but the receiving core is old and the youngsters must step up to take over. The defense is full of has-beens on the line, but the linebackers are very good and very athletic. They will carry this team.
13. San Diego Chargers
- If they can repeat their Cinderella season of 2004, I will be impressed. Drew Brees is playing for a long-term deal and he knows it this time around. The offensive line is still made up of no-name players, but they did a good enough job last season. The wide receivers must step up for the entire 16 games this year if the Chargers hope to make another playoff run.
11. Kansas City Chiefs
- Seeing the Chiefs this high may surprise some, but their off-season was quietly among the best in the league. The offense will be powerful again, maybe for the last season too. Trent Green is getting older and they are relying on Freddie Mitchell to make plays for them. Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson make a dynamic duo in the backfield and bringing in Carlos Hall, Kendrell Bell, Derrick Johnson, Patrick Surtain and Sammy Knight on defense could make them a serious Super Bowl contender.

This guy must be an incredible Raiders :homer:
When I saw the title I assumed it was 4th in the conference, but in the league ???
To make matters worse, he does not have the decency of maintaining his logic from one paragraph to the next. The Vikes are #5 and playoff bound because they got rid of the cancer and beefed up their defence. The raiders weakened their defence and pickup the cancer, but they are rated 4 (even though they have a worse QB than the Vikes last year, an unproven RB, and an inferior defence to the Vikes last year. Vikes last year WL 8-8). BTW, JP may have his moments, but any person criticism him and giving a free pass to Collins has no credibility.

as long as they hold teams under 30 points they will win games.
Considering their team gave up nearly 28 points per game last year, and made no moves to get better on D, I'd say teams will be dropping 30 on them pretty often.
I wonder if that insane vampire Al Davis pays people to spout this crap.

The receiving core is young! We have two old veterans. The rest of our receivers are young. I LOVE this. I hope we drop even further in in reankings so when we start kicking ass, we get to watch the media fall all over themselves like a bunch of drunken idiots.

I've been about as critical of the Oakland's offseason moves as anyone, but to say they have done nothing his ridiculous. The players they've gained > the players they've lost, who were for the most part terrible.
Chieffan talking smack is amusing since their defense couldn't keep a 30 PPG offense in 9 games.

I think Bob has a decent analogy there, they could end up being the 2002 Chiefs and finish right around .500. I actually think they will be a little above .500. I do not think more than 3 games will seperate the Division champion and the last place team in this division. Best team will have 10 wins, worst team 7.

4th may be a bit high in my opinion too at this stage until we see what they can do, the NFL is in deep doo doo if we get a middle of the pack D.

Just because the raiders got moss doesnt mean their a top 5 team. The broncos have always done well against moss and espically with walls on him , who shut him down besides the dumb over the back play he had last time they played. And as long is it not snowing the champ will have his way with porter or owens.

I never said anything about the stupid ranking, just pointing out that KC's defense was worse than ours. Nor did I say Oakland was a top 5 team.
These comments that their defense got worse by jettisoning horrible players are flat out wrong. Oakland added a bunch of players and probably got the steal of the draft in Aantaj Hawthorne.
Incidently, I woudnt call 10 receptions for 151 yards "shutting him down" even if he did fail to reach the end zone.

So by looking at the stats did it tell you that Walls was on him all day or maybe Oneal or Herndon was on him for a play or two???

In reality more like 9 for 90. That before the half play was a fraud.

9 for 107... his longest reception was 44 yards so that's the play you're talking about I assume.
That multiplies out to a 140 catch 1700 yard season. Not exactly "shut down" by any stretch

I know his numbers look good but i thought Lenny played pretty well that day covering him. Obviously Champ is better than Lenny and although Lenny is taller, i think Denver will use Champ on him and he will do a decent job. Obviously he wont shut him down but i think he will play him pretty well. Really its going to come down to whether Denver gets good heat on Collins. The fact that you guys will be going to more 7 step passes will help us a little but it really will just be a trench war, thats where it will be decided. I think Coyer will also blitz his LBs. He likes that trio in coverage and rushing that passer so i think we will prolly try that against Oakland as well. Most likely Gold will be the blitzer of choice.

Look man, the rankings are bogus.. any rankings are at this point other than putting NE at #1 and maybe Tennessee at 32.
I just get a kick out of claims how we weakened our defense so badly, when all of the players that were jettisoned, without exception, were terrible.
Or how Lamont Jordan is "unproven" but that Creaky assed dude from the Browns is going to be running ****.

You've got to take out his 3rd longest, I think it was about 20 or so yards on a 3rd down. Denver was in zone and Moss was on Herndon's side. Walls was no where near close to that play.
Despite the fact that Moss did have that 44 yard reception, Walls actually had inside position on the slant. He made a play for the pick and missed, something he did quite a lot that season, and then ran Moss down from behind.

This is all tangential to the point. The guy caught 10 balls for 151 yards. Now everyone is scrambling, backpedaling and seperating fly **** from pepper to make it appear he was "shut down" when that absolutely wasn't the case.

Yea, but you didn't add anyone better to replace them. You added a mediocre 3-4 LB just in time for your team to go back to the 4-3. You added a one game wonder (Al Davis' specialty) from the Eagles. And you're banking on a rookie to improve your worst in the league pass D.
Yea, I know Chiefs fan shouldn't be talking about D. But as a Chiefs fan, I know that all the offense in the world isn't going to change the fact that your D still sucks.

All reports are we're still going to use an odd front defense.
You added a one game wonder (Al Davis' specialty) from the Eagles.
I don't like Burgess that much, but he was good enough to start for a top 3 defense.
And you're banking on a rookie to improve your worst in the league pass D.
No we're not, Ndami Asomugha (or however the hell you spell it) will likely start at RCB, unless Washington flat out plays better.

It's not like we switched DC's and figured all will be well like the Chiefs did last year. They've made a bunch of signings along the front 7. I'd expect at least 5 new starters in the lineup LCB, FS, WILB, WLB, and RDE.

I won't even count the Hail mary. 9 for 107 & you double covered him every
snap of the game.
I've taped every offensive possesion of the Vikings since 2000.
I saw a safety sitting over the top the whole game.
