Broncos cornerback has no doubts about his talent

ENGLEWOOD — No therapy session was necessary.
Denver Broncos cornerback Roc Alexander didn’t need to lie on some overstuffed couch and rehash the haunting memory with a Sigmund Freud disciple.
Alexander just needed to be left alone. Only time would salve this wound.
The last time you saw Alexander, Indianapolis receiver Reggie Wayne was exploiting him for 10 catches, 221 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Colts’ 49-24 playoff romp. Wayne’s day was the third-most prolific in playoff history.
Alexander made for a quick and convenient scapegoat.
And for that Denver defensive coordinator Larry Coyer was truly sorry.
“We put him in a bad deal,” Coyer said. “We all got our butts kicked. We were humiliated. They kicked every man’s butt out there — coaches, players, everybody. He’s taken a lot of heat. For him to take the brunt of that wouldn’t be fair.”
No one was harder on Alexander than Alexander. He felt like he let everyone down. Alexander wanted to hide under a rock after that game. He wanted to disappear.
When that week’s Sports Illustrated arrived, the one with Wayne on the cover and Alexander helplessly diving after him in the background, he simply tossed it away. When highlights came on the television, he flipped the channel. When friends brought it up, he changed the subject.
“It took me a couple months to get my mind right,” Alexander said.
And now it’s back on straight. He’s not going to have lingering doubts about his talent. As he competes for the nickel spot, Alexander won’t let the past haunt him.
“I took that game personally to just get better and work harder,” said Alexander, who’s an undrafted free agent out of the University of Washington.
Shortly after the game, Denver safety John Lynch approached him. It wasn’t to scold or criticize the then rookie, just to sympathize. Lynch told Alexander about how he once got burned by Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders for an 80-yard touchdown early in his career.
For Lynch’s pep talk, Alexander will forever be grateful.
“A lot of guys told me to just keep going and keep fighting,” said Alexander.

If not for some off the field stuff at Udub, Roc was slated as a Day one Draft talent. I can't recall the exact issue but he had some fairly serious charge pending against him during his senior season that scared off most teams.

He should sue Manning & Wayne for molesting him last year. Bet those chicks loved the Karma payback.

The criminal charges were dropped. Civil suits are about nothing but money.

Roc may not have doubts about his talent but I sure do. This guy should be bagging groceries at King Sooper's.

We can't be hard on this guy. He was an undrafted rookie asked to play against a blue chip veteran receiver. Of course he got burned.

All I know is that he outperformed both LeSeur and Shoate in the preseason. When Middlebroke and Walls went down, he did well enough in the regular season. I fully believe that he'll be the nickleback if Middlebroke can't get right.

All of that doesn't matter. He didn't make a single play. Not one. He stinks, trade him to the Fade for some shiney beads, we need to play against DBs of his caliber. Jake will be in the hall in no time.
If they guy had one iota of talent he would have been able to stop one pass play his way during the game. They threw at him a thousand times, odds are he could just stick a hand up at some point and get lucky and tip the ball.

They all did so well in fact that we drafted 3 corners in this year's draft. Way to raise the bar boys.

The rooks hold the edge in speed and talent but it's tough to match the potential for criminal activity in Shanny's system. He's got a 50/50 shot.

This kid has far from all the talent in the world and the problem is not talent anyway. It is believing in himself which he will have a hard time doing. Mentally he is going to have a hard time comming back from the Indy massacre of 2005.

Seriously people can blame the system all they want but it would be stupid to think that a corner can't make one play after having the ball thrown his way 20 times in a game.

We drafted 3 CBs this year because, Walls is an UFA this year, middlebroke might never be back. Shoate has a severe injury that isn't healing right and LeSeuer is a Saftey.
Darrent Williams is as of right now, a special teams player. Foxworth and Paymah are both rookies this year, giving us a chance to have some experience on the roster next year when Rosenhaus has Walls sit out and Shanny has to trade him for a 2 snickers and a bag of chips.
Alexander was playing against one of the most potent passing attacks of all time. Nice...I understand that your mad at Alexander for failing you, but blame Coyer, and Shanahan for putting him into a no-win situation by leaving him in man coverage on a race track and zero pass rush. Manning had time enough to sit back, scratch his ass, order chinese takeout, and then throw the ball.

Actually I was the one ordering chinese takeout cause that game made me sick of watching.

Actually he did make a play. He made a huge play. I can't remember what game it was but it was late in the year and the team was facing a 3rd and short. they passed the ball to the WR and Roc came up and made a very tough tackle to keep the guy from getting the first down. It was a huge play in that game........... whatever game it was(sigh)

One play, he didn't make a single play. If Manning was ordering takeout Roc was picking it up for him because he sure as hell wasn't on the field. We could have put 10 out there and done just as well. Roc should be gone, I'll pay the moving expenses. He's just taking up space...which is more than he did in the game against the Colts.

That was actually the first game of the season against the chiefs. Both Walls and Herndon were sitting out because of cramps and he tackled Kennison I believe on 3rd down.

Actually Walls had just hurt his shoulder on that Sunday night. Roc also had a nice kick-off return but he was more fast than elusive and that maybe an issue for him on defense ???, I dunno.
I agree that he was burned by the BEST that Indy had but he got very little help defensively, offensively or by special teams in that playoff *gulp* game...er..debacle. Not from the players around him nor the coaching staff. Not from the NFL which tried their hand at fixing a game with threats and not by the game officials who let Reggie Wayne push-off over and again. He was soundly beaten by one of the NFL's best and wouldn't have been had injuries to Walls and Middlebrooks not happened.
Given the circumstances, I'm not so sure you/I wouldn't be here berating either of the two of them and wishing them a fond fair thee well, had they been healthy enough to play that day.

he punked out Kennison who was running to get the first down but, Alexander took him down.
I actually have more hope for Alexander than Shoate/Leseur who he beat out last year in camp. Also he's a pretty good job returning kicks last year so I think he'll make the roster this year.
