View Full Version : My Conversation With Marco Coleman

Marco Coleman joined the growing list of defensive lineman that visit my store today. He was gracious, intelligent and a total gentleman the entire time. He walked in and I immediately recognized him, but was unsure. We talked a little about a new watch he needed help with and eventually I said "Is your name Marco?" "Yes." he said. I then told him I knew who he was and a bunch of my co-workers looked up and came running over.

First I asked him if he was upset that he had to go in to work tomorrow. He said that he wasn't and that it was no big deal. I asked him if it didn't bother him that mini camp broke up the longer vacation they would have got. "No. It's not like we have to work longer, and Mike gave us the fourth off, so we got to have vacation." He spent his in Vegas.

I then asked him if he felt the mini camp move would help the rookies catch up and keep things fresh. He said "Rookies!? Who cares about rookies? We just string rookies along and hope they last through the camps." It was pretty funny.

Next I asked him how Trevor was doing he. He said "Trevor's doing absolutely wonderful." I asked him if he was geting back into the swing of things, and he gave me this look and said "Trevor is going to be fine, just watch."

He then told me (and remember you heard it here first) that he and Trevor are the starting ends right now, with Ebenezor and Courtney behind them respectively. Of those two he said "Yeah, they're ok. They get to play when we get tired." I thought that was pretty funny.

I brought up that my brother in-law played baseball with Gerard Warren, and that I thought it was funny that such a big guy could play that sport. He mentioned that Gerard Warren is very fast - faster than he looks, and that he's been working really hard since he came here. I was glad to hear that since I didn't ask about him.

I asked him how much mini camps help since their contact is so limited. He pointed out that most of training camp is like that anyway. He also said that playing without pads is actually harder than with them on. When I asked why he said "because you need more control. You need to really focus because if you make a mistake you can give someone a concussion or get injured."

By then we had wrapped up our deal and told him when the watch was ready he could just leave practice and come and pick it up. He laughed and said "Mike doesn't let you miss camp unless someone dies, and it better be you."

It was a great conversation and he was a real classy guy. He had to be, since he let me pick his brain for twenty minutes. Thought you'd all like to hear it.

That's pretty sweet.

When people run into players, talk to them, etc, (assuming they're not jerks) they always have cool stories to tell. This is great, and the inside information is cool too, being real information... Sometimes you gotta wonder how much truth is out there in the news... The only real report people can trust, IMO, is wabbit, as he's always been pretty honest about things.

In somewhat related news, my buddy works at Murray Imports, the car dealership, and saw Shanny there the other day getting service on his Benz or something... I told him to ask Mike about who actually called the fade route against SD, but he wasn't having it! ;)

Right on, man. That's cool as hell. What a good time it must have been to get to talk to Marco, with the kind of inside view that he posesses.

Thanks Kaylore, good stuff. Sounds like a decent fellow.

Anyone else think that Marco will not last long in that starting spot? One of those 'no respect until you learn the system' things.

Who knows. They had Mike Anderson starting with the first team at running back. The thing about the defensive line is that Coyer likes to rotate his guys in and out a lot, so no matter where you start, you're going to get to play.

Marco played great last year. It really wouldn't suprise me if Coleman started and Brown came off the bench.

Shanny might do that just to ease Brown along the first couple weeks of the season to see how he is doing.

Thx,
great post, and it is nice to get some real information coming out of colorado since the beat writer does not get the job done.

Didnt Jake audible out of a run play, and call for the fade?!?

I agree. I think Marco played way past his old age last year. Now that Kaylore has personally met him just validates it.

I don't know if he will make it past final cuts, but he's really is a classy guy. Maybe Denver can find a spot for him like Jimmy Spencer, and maybe Burns. You can tell when someone is sinciere. I would be totally in favor of having him be an apprentice coach if he doesn't make the squad. I don't think you can have too many coaches. If anything, they could tape the fights.

Larry Coyer vs. Gary Kubiak, 10 rounds. Gary pulls the ropeadope as Coyer tries to move in for the kill. King.

Round two: Kubiack gets in two backhands while wheeling into a his ballerina routine. Coyer stands fast and tells him to stop acting out.

Kubiak tries a ninja move and Coyer catches his leg in mid-kick with his arm. The rest wasn't pretty. Coyer essentially twists Kubiaks leg off like a someone intent on the turkey leg.

Thanks Kaylore great read. You sure you don't want to work for the Post/Rocky?? That was a nice run at an interview. More Rep for you!! Good Job.

I'm even more excited about seeing the "new" defensive line and the Return of The King ...errr Trevor. I don't know what everyone expectations are but I *really* think that C. Brown will be a work in progress until late preseason/early reg. season. I.e. mostly non-contact until that time frame. For that reason alone, Coleman could be the starter well into the year. The rotation helps him and all the others stay healthier and stronger.

Coleman is a class act , thanks Kaylore for sharing the Story .......
But in Reality if C.Brown is healthy ,Coleman will be a back up ......
you have to keep a coleman around , he has expierence and giving C.Browns past .......
One thing though Coleman allowed you to pick his brain for 20 minutes , means things are going well and everyone is getting along , if they wasnt it would have came out in Kaylores interview .......

More thanks Kaylore. Coleman had a quiet, but very solid year last year. Your story validates everything that has been written about him in the past in terms of being a good person with leadership qualities. Everyone knows I think the Broncs really need some young studs on the DL, but it would be great if Coleman could hang around for another year or two.

I'm kidding. Great interview. I agree with others that YOU should be working the Broncos beat at the newspaper...

Thanks for the uplifting story, Kaylore.

Besides Plummer, Bell, the Three Incognitos (Denver's top picks), the Dline and Sourbutt, Pryce is the one I'm most worried about. Every little bit of good news on that front is good news indeed.

Nice to hear he thinks pryce is going to be fine. I think Marco will probably make the final roster, he played as well as anybody on the dline last year.

Marco is a real great guy, I had the chace to meet him last year after the Mike Shanahan show, he stuck around and actually had a drink with us, we talked about the state of the game and how older vets that are not super stars are treated, how most humble guys are not really a news story, and he said he would be a Bronco as long as they wanted him to be.

We all know Kaylore is one of those young single studs. If we gave him a camera, we would probably see nothing but boring cleavage rather than important stuff like Broncos. :)

I suppose that I could jack my security tape and show you guys, but that's a little illegal. I thought about using my camera phone, but its crappy quality and I can't get pictures off of it since my internet on it doesn't work.

I'm certainly young and single at least. Have no fear, the only cleavage I'll show is probably mostly Khan's.
