Terrell Owens, in the midst of a much-publicized contract dispute with the Eagles, wants to turn his attention to basketball, and the Sacramento Kings are willing to grant his wish.

The Kings told Owens that he could play alongside hip-hop magnate Master P on their summer-league squad, which will consist of the team's draft picks, plus free agents and young veterans.

The catch is that Owens needs permission from the Eagles, and he is not going to like his employer's position on this issue any more than the stance the team has taken on his desire to renegotiate his seven-year contract.

An Eagles spokesman said Friday that team president Joe Banner had not been contacted by the Kings, but if and when he was, permission for Owens to get his basketball fix will be denied.

Owens' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said he had not received word from the Kings or the Eagles about the possibility of the star receiver's playing for the Kings' summer-league squad.

"He wants to do this very badly," Rosenhaus said. "Everyone knows his passion for the game. It's always something that he has had an interest in, and he'll be disappointed if he does not get the chance.

"The Kings extended the invitation, but they said they wouldn't be able to follow through unless they got permission from the Eagles."

The Kings published their summer-league roster on their Web site on Friday. It included 6-foot-4 guard Percy Miller, better known as Master P. It did not include Owens, who is better known for a lot more things than for playing basketball.

Owens has spoken often about his affection for basketball, and he has some talent for the sport. He was a three-year member of the basketball team at Tennessee-Chattanooga, starting five games. The 1995 squad qualified for the NCAA tournament.

Owens won a celebrity dunk competition at the 2000 NBA All-Star Game in Oakland, Calif., and played with the Adirondack Wildcats of the United States Basketball League in 2002.

With the Aug. 1 training-camp reporting date for Eagles veterans now less than a month away, there is no change in Owens' contract situation. There also is no truth to the recent rumor that he might be traded to the Oakland Raiders for wide receiver Jerry Porter.

"Everybody has asked me about the trade rumor with Oakland, and that's obviously not accurate," Rosenhaus said. "Terrell has said he's receptive to the idea of playing for another team, but I do not have permission to seek a trade at this time.

"I've talked to the Eagles. I'm not going to get into who I've talked to, but their position hasn't changed, and neither has ours."

Football players think they can be basketball players
Basketball players think they can be rappers
Rappers think they can be football players
Actors think they can be singers
Singers want to be actors
If they wanna do it. More power to you.

...and actors want to direct. And I think more rapers think they can play basketball than football.

Remember Roy Jones JR playing in a semi-pro basketball game the day he had a fight?

This is simply a ploy to get the Eagles to release him. T.O. doesn't want to be traded again, that didn't work out so well when his idiot agent didn't bother to read fine print. So he will goof around in basketball then return when he can choose who he wants to be a cancer on next.

The ending is as predicable as War of the Worlds. I haven't seen War of the Worlds, but the ending is totally plausable. Look at small pox in the Americas, and a culture/anatomy that wasn't physically adapted to alcohol. Between the two and wiping out their grocery store in the Buffalo, it wasn't the gun that won the west in our so called "Manifest Destiny". Mostly, we shot at ourselves.

T.O. will go play basketball to get out of his contract, he will continue to be such a distraction till he's released, will continue to profess his love of AA minor league BB till he gets tired of puke smelling bus trips, and goes back for one last payday from an unsuspecting Al Davis. I'm not sure what Philly did to upset poor T.O., because the fans were chanting for him. Maybe it was because Philly is a losing organization? Was it he got 10 million last year? Maybe he didn't like the cuisine at team headquarters.

Bottom line is TO is going to use this "passion for baskeball" at age 33 to escape his contract. He will play some hoops and go back into the FA market. The one thing he is going to be surprised about is that only a handfull of teams are going to even pay attention. He will get a contract, but it won't even be close to what he would of made in Philly, when he would of made about 8 million in 2006. It's a mock's lock. If a dog goes around dumping in everyone's yard, eventually, they aren't going to give it any more food. Especially an old dog. I can hear Rosenhaus allready claiming collusion against his client in 2006. It's almost humorous.

T.O. has rolled the Flava Clown Bus thru S.F., Baltimore and now Philly.

I'm not even close to being a General Manager, but do you plant a 60 million dollar contract on a guy that says he wants to play basketball? If T.O. wants to go play minor league baskeball for 80k for the "love of the game", more power to him. If that's his passion at 32, that's fine with me. I would love to see the clown out of the league.

He honestly thinks he can come back to the party after a year out of the league and get a better deal than he has right now?

He's a great WR, possibly one of the best all time, but if I'm a GM I avoid him like the small pox. There would be a handfull of teams looking for the "missing link" to sign him. Denver isn't one of them after IHOP. Oakland can't afford him. New England? Your kidding me right? One team that might of taken him is Baltimore, and he burned that bridge, right? Miami is busy with Little Ricky. I see only a handfull of teams to sign TO.

Maybe Minnesota, maybe Seattle. Unless you think your on the cusp of a SB run, noone is going to touch him. He's not going to play for a pretender, and he's allready alienated virtually all the contenders. Noone is going to pay him 70 million to play for a team that is going thru reconstruction. Minnesota is the only spot left for this fool, and I doubt they want someone more disruptive than Moss. Using T.O. as a pawn in the Sharks game is a disgrace. This is kinda like Ty Law looking for a job now, when he was offered a pretty reasonable 46 million contract when his leg is still in a walking cast. Noone will even bother with Ty Law for much more than minimum. TO will be released and go play basketball, and be amazed how noone will touch him in 2006.

I've read this several times and am still having a difficult time understanding just what the hell it means.

Whatever gets him out of football and off my TV screen, I'm for wholeheartedly.

..and since I hate basketball with all the passion in the world, that's exactly the best place for him to be. Then the only time I'll ever see his smug, deodorant shilling ass is on the stray commercial........perfect IMHO.

Playing semi-pro basketball on a recently broken leg during his NFL contract holdout... Oh yeah, this sounds like a great idea...
