The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are trying to make room for another veteran cornerback with a Super Bowl ring. Three of them, to be exact. Patriots cornerback Ty Law has received a contract proposal that was faxed from the Bucs. General manager Bruce Allen did not specify what role he envisions the 31-year-old Law would play in Tampa Bay. "He's one of several free agents we're looking at," Allen said Wednesday night. The courting of Law comes at a time when the Bucs are trying to clear about $6-million from the payroll for their rookie salary pool to sign 12 draft picks. And with all the concerns the Bucs may have heading into the season, the cornerback position doesn't appear to be one of them. Law says the Jaguars, Jets, Dolphins, Chiefs and Colts also have expressed an interest in signing him.

Rookie cornerback Carlos Rogers -- the team's top draft pick -- has a stress fracture in his right foot, a more serious injury than previously known, and could miss the start of training camp, which begins July 31. When Rogers missed Coach Joe Gibbs 's final two minicamps, the team apparently believed he was suffering from a minor ankle sprain. But Rogers -- the ninth overall pick, from Auburn, in April's draft -- has been in a walking boot over the past two weeks.

Cowboys right guard Marco Rivera, who received a $9 million signing bonus when he signed a five-year, $20 million contract with the Cowboys in March, underwent surgery to repair a herniated disk March 10 and is declaring himself “100 percent” ready for training camp. The Cowboys’ first practice is July 30.

Former Patriots cornerback Ty Law appears to be less likely to sign with Miami or Kansas City, and claims that the Colts are one of the teams in the hunt for his services. Law also worked out for the Jaguars last week, but didn't receive an immediate offer. According to published reports, the Jaguars -- like other teams -- are more interested in a one-year deal until they see if Law is going to be able to return to his old form.

Jaguars spokesman Dan Edwards said the team will have no comment on the condition of Fred Taylor's knee, but expects him to be ready to start the regular season. Coach Jack Del Rio was unavailable for comment on Taylor's contention in a radio interview last week that surgeons performed what he called a "full cut'' on two torn knee ligaments, even though the club announced in January that he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery.

Many of the folks jostling for position to get Moss to sign were holding helmets not of purple but of silver and black. And among the big-bucks items to be auctioned off at the end of the Randy Moss Invitational Celebrity Charity Fishing tournament were Moss jerseys. But they were Raiders jerseys, No. 18. And yet, the people cheered. There were quite a lot of them. Celebrities, of course. Sports celebrities (too many to mention), TV celebs, reality TV folks and at least one beauty queen (Miss Minnesota, Carrie Lee). Everyone professed to having a good time, most adding the caveat of the weather. And there were fans. Lots of fans. When Moss took to the stage to make a very brief speech after the weigh-in was over, they cheered. Well, maybe not as loudly as they would have had Moss still been a member of the Vikings. But they cheered nonetheless. So, Randy, how did it feel to be back in Minnesota? "It was all right," Moss said as he was carrying his team's catch from the boat to the weigh-in. "I can deal with it."

The Dolphins, who are moving their games from WQAM-560 to 790 The Ticket, have offered their radio analyst job to Joe Rose and have interest in pairing him with former Dolphins teammate Jimmy Cefalo, according to officials close to the situation. Rose, who has declined to discuss the matter recently, originally said he wasn't interested in the job because of time constraints. But numerous associates expect him to accept the gig. ESPN announcer and 790 talk-show host Jon Sciambi was considered the front-runner for the play-by-play job after NBC 6 refused to allow news anchor Tony Segreto to accept the position. But recently, the team -- which controls the announcer hires -- has become intrigued about pairing two former Dolphins in the booth. Sciambi would be a top candidate if Cefalo and the team don't reach a deal on the play-by-play position.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has a Super Bowl ring and former Dolphins QB Dan Marino doesn't. LOL

Jerome Brown, the late, great Eagles defensive tackle, would be bursting with pride. His son, Dee, now 22, has just started on a career path that he hopes someday leads to the major leagues. Brown, a 10th-round draft choice out of the University of Central Florida last month, is making quite a first impression with the Vermont Expos, the Class A affiliate of the Washington Nationals (don't know why they're still called the Expos). A powerful 6-foot, 235-pound outfielder, he leads the Expos in hitting with a .393 batting average in the young season. He is among the New York-Penn League's batting leaders, and has five doubles and two homers, including a grand slam, and eight RBI after last night's loss to Oneonta.

Ty Law to Indy makes sense... NE keeps Indy from doing anything in the playoffs and Law's ego is big enough to think he could be the missing link, knocking his former team off their perch in the process.

LAw would fit in nicely to the TB defense if they get hit, he wont have to be 'the man' like he would have to be in Indy, altho in Indy he would also be a good fit with that mad pass rush freeney puts on.
- And i concurr on the noringo Marino phrase! LOL

Law knows he's on his last legs (pun intended) & wants that last pay-day at someone's expense.

Warren Sapp found his big sweet sucker in Oakland, I'd love to see Law make his unannouced retirement at Arrowhead Stadium (cash the checks, run out on the field, scream, hold ankle...sit back)
