Every time i listen to Just A Moment by Nas and Quan i cant help it.
You see ast summer a student that goes to my schol died in a car crash. that was a pretty big blow to the school.
Then this year9my senior year) on of my friends(a fellow senior)dad dies. he was well known and liked and this was another blow. Then less than 2 weeks later another one of my friends(also another senior) died from a drug OD. he was very popular and well liked .Then about a month or 2 later another one of my friends(a senior) dad died from cancer.now when i hear the song i think of those four people.

A song that jerks a tear for me.......Ukranian National Anthem

http://pages.prodigy.net/l.hodges/anthem.htm

Ukraine's glory hasn't perished, nor her freedom
Upon us, fellow compatriots, fate shall smile once more.
Our enemies will vanish, like dew in the morning sun,
And we too shall rule, brothers, in a free land of our own.

We'll lay down our souls and bodies to attain our freedom,
And we'll show that we, brothers, are of the Kozak nation.

Ukraine has not perished, neither her glory, nor freedom,
Upon us, fellow-Ukrainians, fate shall smile once more.
Our enemies will vanish, like dew in the morning sun,
And we too shall dwell, brothers, in a free land of our own.

We'll lay down our souls and bodies to attain our freedom,
And we'll show that we, brothers, are of the Kozak nation.

We'll stand together for freedom, from the Sian to the Don,
We will not allow others to rule in our motherland.
The Black Sea will smile and grandfather Dnipro will rejoice,
For in our own Ukraine fortune shall flourish again.

Our persistence and our sincere toils will be rewarded,
And freedom's song will resound throughout all of Ukraine.
Echoing off the Carpathians, and rumbling across the steppes,
Ukraine's fame and glory will be known among all nations.

You see I have pretty close ties to my roots being that my father was born in Ukraine and my mother was also Ukrainian. My ole man fought in the UPA (Ukrainian Insurgent Army in WWII) http://hometown.aol.com/shukhevych/. The mission of the UPA was to fight for a free Ukraine from all foreign occupation.

Infact most people have never even heard about these guerella fighters who fought right along side American' and other Allies. Infact my old man fought the German front and later the Russian front and survived two different concentration camps by escaping them both.

Anyhow I feel very connected to the struggles of the Ukrainian people because I have family there and I have visited there a few times. Growing up as a child at our Ukrainian Church we would honer those veterans who fought in WWII and sometimes I would have the honor of holding the Ukrainian flag during the ceremony. It was a great honor for me but I couldn't help but shed a tear while thinking about the MILLIONS of Ukrainians who fought and died for Ukraine and those that suffered during the Ukrainian Holocaust.

Ukrainian Holocaust you might be asking yourself. Yes over 7,000,000 people were murdered at the hands of Stalin. http://www.sovereignty.org.uk/siteinfo/newsround/sovkill.html

Anyhow Ukraine "Won" it's independence back in 1991 but it wasn't until recently that a true democratic leader has emerged in Ukraine via the "Orange Revolution" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange_Revolution

I'm just greatful that the revolution ended peacefully and the Communists failed to take over Ukraine yet again. Some of you may recall that after the Soviet collapse there was a huge power vacume in this country and alot of concern about what would happen with the Nukes left over. Ukraine could have kept them but they were promised support from the United States and a chance to join other free democratic nations. Well support from the USA has been negligible but the Ukrainian people have fought on and taken their country back again and I believe it's for good this time!!!

It's funny when I showed the bus to my dad for the first time. He knew I was building a bus but didn't exactly know the details. When I pulled up to his house the first thing he says is "I like the color". You see during the protests in Ukrainian they used the color Orange to signify the people's democratic fight against the communists party of Russia.

Don't get me wrong I bleed Red/White/Blue :USA: but I also bleed Orange not only for the Broncos but for my people of Ukraine and the Orange Revolution. It's kinda cool to have that connection to the color on a fan level and a personal level.

Some of you probably saw some CNN footage of the Ukrainian election and protests in Ukraine last year. If you are curious to learn more about what happened in Ukraine recently here are some news clips from my cousin (Olga Halaburda) who is a news reporter from Green Bay news who demanded to be sent to Ukraine to cover the story. She was one of the very few Americans who was sent there to cover the story as it unfolded.

Its a country song, cant remember who by. But it goes like "Let me tell ya a secret, about a father's love, a secret that my daddy said was just between us. Now daddy's dont just love their children every now and then, its a love without end amen."

Love that song.

"How Can I Help You Say Goodbye" by Patty Loveless.

Within a three-year period, when I was in high school, I lost my grandmother to cancer, my mom and one of my best friends - both in car accidents. Almost 10 years later, I haven't said "goodbye" to any of them and am not sure I ever will, and I still can't get through 30 seconds of that song without crying.

Cats in the Cradle...summed up my relationship with my father rather well.

he was always gone, then when I was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. He passed away with lung cancer. My parents were divorced, and he didn't tell anyone in the family, and we only found out when my step mother called after he passed.

I only saw him twice from the time I was 10 years old... The song makes me feel like I never had the chance as a kid to grow up with him, and now its too late. Some of my best memories were when I was really young and he was around a lot.

I once jokingly told my sister that when I hear "No Son of Mine" by Genesis that I think of my relationship with my dad and she told him. It made him feel bad and he called and apologized for not being the best father and that he was very proud of me. I felt really really bad for saying that even though I was kidding.

I get teary eyed when I watch the show called "Hit Me Baby 1 More Time". The premise is that recording artists from the 80's come back to sing their hit song in front of a live audience. The audience votes for the favorite. What makes me cry is how old they look today... :vermeil:

Tool - aenima

Sounds weird, but when tool breaks down to jsut drums as Maynard sing "Im praying for rain, I"m praying for tidal waves, I wanna see the ground give way, I wanna watch it all god down," That part always get to me, especially in concert.

Metallica - Fade to Black

Just a perfect song right there, no real explanation other than the tempo and lyrics of the song that get me.

...both by U2. "Kite" and "Sometimes You Can't Make it on Your Own".

Both are by Bono about his father. What is it with us guys and communicating with our dads?

He wrote them about/for his dad after he died of cancer.

Some of the best lines from Sometimes you can't make it:

"And it's you when I look in the mirror
And it's you when I don't pick up the phone
Sometimes you can't make it on your own"

"We fight all the time
You and I, that's alright
We're the same soul
I don't need, I don't need to hear you say
That if we weren't so alike
You'd like me a whole lot more"

"You're the reason I sing
You're the reason why the opera is in me
Well, hey now
Still got to let you know
A house doesn't make a home
Don't leave me here alone"

And from Kite (about his dad's struggle with cancer and Bono trying to make peace with him):

"I want you to know
That you don't need me anymore
I want you to know
You don't need anyone, anything at all"

In summer I can taste the salt in the sea
There's a kite blowing out of control on a breeze
I wonder what's gonna happen to you
You wonder what has happened to me
I'm a man, I'm not a child
A man who sees the shadow behind your eyes

Who's to say where the wind will take you
Who's to say what it is will break you
I don't know where the wind will blow
Who's to know when the time has come around
I don't wanna see you cry
I know that this is not goodbye

This will admittedly be soft unless you have little kids, but Phil Collins' "You'll Be In My Heart", from the Tarzan soundtrack, is an eye waterer for me.

I highly recommend you hold your little toddler or 5 year old, etc., and stare at him/her while listening to that song.

For me it just brings out a primitive parental protection cry almost every time. My son is 8, but that particular Disney soundtrack was his favorite from the time he was 3 thru age 7. I cannot count the number of times I would water up as that song was playing while I was looking in the rearview mirror at him, in his childs seat.

Some of BlackHawks songs get me. Post mark burmingham??? and that song one of the guys did before he died. Something about a boat. That one last time song is a KILLER! For those that haven't listen to it at all.

When she picked up the telephone,
His voice came on the line.
She said: "This can't be happening,"
An' tears fell from her eyes.
She said: "What am I supposed to do?
"I can't handle losin' you."
He said: "I just had to call to say goodbye,
"One last time."

He said: "There are some things in this life,
"That are out of our control.
"Like who we fall in love with,
"And when it's time to go."
An' she said: "What about the plans we had?"
He said: "This connection's gettin' bad."
"Now c'mon baby, let me hear you smile,
"One last time."

She started to apologise,
For all the things that she'd done wrong.
She said: "I would have loved you better.
"If only I'd known."
He said: "You were the perfect wife:
"Promise me you'll go on with your life."
She said: "The boys won't understand."
He said: "Tell 'em Daddy loves 'em and, be strong, whoa."

He said: "Honey, I've gotta go."
She said: "Don't you dare hang up.
"There's so many things I need to say.
"I love you so much."
I was almost like she felt him leave.
She cried out: "Can you still hear me?"
She fell down on the kitchen floor,
When the signal died,
As the pilot tried to pull out of the dive.
One last......

There is another sad song. It's an old country song from the 70s. I think its called "Teddy Bear"
Its about a young handicapped boy who talks on the Cb to truck drivers and his one wish is to ride in a semi truck. He gives out his address over the airwaves and hundreds of truckers pull off the road and stop by to take turns giving him a ride. the boy thinks he is just talking to one trucker but others are listening and everybody shows up to give this handicapped kid his wish.

Yeah that is a good one, Soma by the Smashing Pumpkins kinda gets me, and Sloop John B by the Beach Boys (reminds me of my grandpa for some strange reason)

Clapton's "Tears in Heaven" When my cousin died, they played that song during his video tribute. To this day, I can't hear that song because it brings back that video...

1. The National Anthem (I love America, and am proud to be an American).

2. Oh Danny Boy (Goes along with my ties to Ireland).

3. There goes my life (yes I threw a country song in there).

4. I alone-Live (Makes me think of my best friend and what a remarkable woman she is).

5. Fallin'-Aleshia Keys (see above).

Winds of Change is cool.

The Star Spangled Banner because of what owe to them. Even my lazy ass got the flag out. We are in the water, we have to see it thru.

Second place:

America the Beautiful. Beautiful song.

Third Place:

Time by Pink Floyd

Just because I was high on dope(opium laced thai stick, for real') and that bell rung on the Pioneer stero. I jumped three feet when the bell rang. It was in Quad. Who says Vietnam was a waste, I got super wasted on a bong.

Quad records were cool. The wax had DOUBLE grooves. The turntable had TWO needles. Totally cool.

Dating myself here. Old Black Water by the Doobies was fantastic. On a double skin in a high powerd Pioneer system while stoned, it was great.

In '72, a buddy came back from nam and smuggled in a little tai. It's sticky.

I took one hit and was off I probably took more... Then they put in Dark Side of the Moon on my ass..in Quad. They cranked up just for me... When the bells hit I hit the ceiling.
