Done for the year. He missed most of last season with a shoulder injury. I thought Polk was going to be pretty good coming out, but he's been a disappointment for the Bolts.

I wonder if they're going to bench Ben Leber to accomodate Shawn Merriman right away. Leber seems like a better player than to be relegated to backup duty behind a rookie.

Right now Leber has nothing to worry about. Merriman hasn't been anywhere close to the Chargers' facility. His agents are the Postons, so of course a long holdout is imminent. They're unhappy with the language the Dolts use in their insurance/practice contract. Whatever you call the thing players sign in case they get injured during practice before they sign their real deal.

I'm sure Bronco LB 52 has more insight into this.

The Chargers are one of the cheapest franchises in the NFL why in the HELL would they draft a guy represented by the Postons?? Hell he will probably miss most of the preseason.

Marty said recently because Merriman is so far behind he might just put him at DE instead of LB for his first year cause there is less to learn.

Bad news... I dont like to see anyone in the league get hurt (except for Ravens, Raiders and this yearL the redskins--preferably Portis), but at least he's not that much of an impact player.

Polk probably would have not made the team this year anyway. San Diego carried 8 LBs last year and he probably would have been the one on the bubble since Merriman will occupy a roster spot. Polk hasn't made it on to the field in four years aside from special teams and is going to be on IR for the entire season for the second straight year. Some of the younger LBs like Matt Wilhelm and Steven Cooper have already shown more promise.

He probably will miss most of the preseason and maybe more. The story with Merriman is that several days after the draft, he fired his agent and hired the Postons. It was a pretty dirty trick, knowing that teams probably would have shyed away from him had he been with the Postons pre-draft. Now he and the Chargers are involved in a squabble over an injury clause unrelated to the actual contract. Apparantly, the injury clause is good enough for every other rookie there except for him. At this point he won't be there until he has a contract. Like last year with Philip Rivers, he was practically going to be guaranteed a starting position but will now likely spend the majority of the year watching from the bench because of his holdout.

I think you guys will still have a few rookies provide a meaningful contribution this year. Even though he is raw, Vincent Jackson will be a threat in the red zone because of his size. Along with Gates, the Chargers passing game in the Red Zone should be very good. He might not start this year but i think Wesley Britt is a future starter for several years at RT. He just has to stay healthy. I think if forced into action, Britt could handle it this year though. And he is a high character guy too which is always a plus. Outside of Oakland's pickup of Anttaj Hawthorne in the sixth round i thought getting Britt on Day 2 was the best value pickup in the division. I dont think Castillo is anything special and i dont think he can hack it as a 3-4 DE as a starter in the league. Ive heard good things about Darren Sproles, he'll help on ST. My best friend who is a chargers fan has been saying alot of glowing things about him. And i hope, for personal homer reasons, that Abe Elimimian can find a spot on the team playing ST and Chris Rix can beat out Cleo Lemon for the no. 3 QB job.

Tough break for Carlos Polk- but he was a stud as a corn husker.

Polk is originally from Rockford Illinois- was a great High School player- then again just about every NFL player was. Unfortunately he just may get released now.

I was a big fan of Polk as well in Lincoln. He was one of the top 3-5 linebackers in college football when he was at Nebraska.

Merriwoman recently scheduled an interview with a morning sports talk show in San Diego and flaked at the last minute. He had some P.R. guy (probably a kiss ass Poston intern) cover for his ass on the air.

Merriwoman might turn out to be a good player, but he is going to have it rough in training camp. Steve Foley and Randall Godfrey are lunch pail, no-nonsense type of players. Merriwoman literally is going to have to blow the veterans away with his work ethic and commitment to earn respect. I am talking about first to arrive, last to leave type of an impression.

How is it that the Chargers always find these guys? I mean they got Merriman and an admitted steriod user with two first round picks... Wow! At least we waited until the 3rd to take a shot on a guy. This kind of luck is what keeps SD down year after year.

They are my prediction for the AFC team most likely to have a HUGE let down this season. I bet they don't finish about .500.
